FROM THE PASTOR
Dear Friends,
Today we are blessed to welcome Sr. Joseph Teslin of the Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Sister Joseph comes
from India and will be speaking at all the Masses offering each of us an opportunity to help those in need throughout the
world. For almost two thousand years Our Lord has given us the mission to minister to the less fortunate of the world.
“Whatsoever you do to the least of my brethren, you do to me.”
Charity certainly begins at home but the mission of the Church is to spread the Gospel to every corner of the earth in
preparation for the coming of the Lord Jesus. It is very important to articulate the beliefs of the Church to those who
have never heard the Word preached to them. Even here in the United States many who profess themselves to be Christian or Catholic (the original Christians) still don't know or understand the faith they profess. It is our task, our blessed
task, to share with them the Gospel of Christ and so we arm ourselves with knowledge of the Scriptures and the teachings of the Church which can be found in the Catechism. But above all, we must do so with love. Without love, our
preaching will lose its potency.
Love, also known as virtue of Charity, is the foundation for the spread of the Gospel. St. Paul tells us, “If I speak in human and angelic tongues but do not have love, I am a resounding gong or a clashing cymbal. And if I have the gift of
prophecy and comprehend all mysteries and all knowledge; if I have all faith so as to move mountains but do not have
love, I am nothing. If I give away everything I own, and if I hand my body over so that I may boast but do not have
love, I gain nothing. Love is patient, love is kind. It is not jealous, [love] is not pompous, it is not inflated, it is not rude,
it does not seek its own interests, it is not quick-tempered, it does not brood over injury, it does not rejoice over wrongdoing but rejoices with the truth. It bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never
fails.”
Love is the key. Let us express our love for God and neighbor by listening attentively to Sister Joseph and by responding with the generosity required of us who have been abundantly blessed by the Lord.

Mary’s Guest House for Women, Victims of Trafficking
Eight years ago, Sr. Christina & Sr. Susan undertook research into the whole issue of human trafficking as they feel
a special calling to respond to this growing need of our
times. They discovered that San Diego was a significant
port & border crossing where trafficking occurred. This area
is one of the top 10 areas of trafficking in the US. The greatest need was for safe housing for these victims and services. The Marist Missionary Sisters started “Mary’s Guest
House” in 2005 for the purpose of providing housing until
the women were re-united with family, had legal immigration status, etc. It is a place to heal and to bond with others
who have a heart to help them through. They are financed
by Marist Missionary Sisters & by countless donations. We
invite you to pray for us and to make a donation to our
home.
We will be having a dinner for Mary’s House here at St. Pius
X Parish Center on August 13th from 4:30pm—7:00pm. A
good will offering will be taken at this time. Thank you all
for your support. Everyone is invited to attend!

Decimoctavo Domingo del Tiempo Ordinario
3 de Agosto de 2014
NOTAS DEL PASTOR
Queridos amigos,
