Mirada Magazine es la única publicación en el Valle
del Tesoro en español, dedicada específicamente a la
audiencia latina de Idaho. Con el fin de agregarle más
valor a la revista, decidimos cambiar algunos de los
elementos de la revista, particularmente el convertirla en
una publicacion bilingüe.
Mirada Magazine is the only publication in the Treasure Valley
in Spanish, dedicated especifically to the Hispanic audience.
Having said that, we decided to change some elements of
the magazine and in particular we are adopting a bilingual
format to start.

QUE NO TE ASUSTE EL
NUEVO EXAMEN DE
CIUDADANIA
El 1 de octubre de 2008, los Servicios de
Inmigración y Ciudadanía de los E.E.U.U.
(USCIS) comenzó a administrar un nuevo
examen de naturalización. El contenido ahora
sigue la historia de los E.E.U.U. y un plan de
estudios del gobierno básicos dentro de tres
categorías: Gobierno americano, Historia
americana, y Cívica Integrada. La prueba todavía
se administra oralmente y el aspirante aun debe
estudiar de un cuestionario de 100 preguntas y
contestar solo 6 de 10 preguntas correctamente
para pasar el examen de cívica.
Hay tres partes en el examen de Ingles: Oral,
Lectura y Escritura. No se hizo ningún
cambio al examen oral de Ingles. La habilidad
de hablar ingles del aplicante se determina por
medio del oficial de inmigración de acuerdo
a las respuestas que de a las preguntas que
normalmente se hacen durante la entrevista de
Naturalización de la forma N-400.
Y no te preocupes si no pasas la primera
vez, tienes una nueva oportunidad para
presentarlo; con voluntad y persistencia
puedes lograrlo.
. Cual es la diferencia entre los dos
exámenes?
La diferencia más sobresaliente es que antes
tenías que memorizar las respuestas y ahora
tienes que entenderlas, y empezar a conocer
el país en donde vives. No pienses que es
mas difícil, según estadísticas del Servicio
de Inmigración y Ciudadanía el examen a
mostrado mejores resultados; el 92% de los
que presentaron el nuevo examen lo pasaron la
primera vez, mientras que anteriormente solo
el 84% pasaban el examen anterior.

No necesitas presentar el examen de Ingles
si cuando aplicas ya has cumplido 50 años de
edad y has sido residente permanente por 20
años o si tienes 55 años de edad y has sido
residente permanente por 15 años, presentaras
el examen de cívica en tu idioma natal. Si eres
mayor de 65 años de edad y has sido residente
permanente por 20 años, puedes presentar una
versión simplificada de cívica en tu idioma.
Como califican el examen de lectura?
Pasa:
•Lee una oración sin pausas prolongadas.
•Lee todas las palabras del contenido pero
puede omitir palabras cortas que no interfieren
con el significado
•Puede tener errores en la pronunciación
o entonación que no interfieran con el
significado.
Pierde:
Se hicieron modificaciones a los exámenes de
lectura y escritura. USCIS proporciona una lista
que contiene todas las palabras que se encuentran
en los exámenes de lectura y escritura. Los
aplicantes pueden usar esta lista de vocabulario
para estudiar. Deben leer correctamente 1 de 3
frases para pasar el examen de lectura y deben
escribir correctamente 1 de 3 frases para pasar
el examen de escritura.
•No lee la oración.
•Omite el contenido de una palabra o la
sustituye por otra
•Hace pausa por periodos de tiempo
prolongados mientras lee la oración.

DON’T BE AFRAID OF THE NEW NATURALIZATION TEST
On October 1st, 2008, the U.S. Citizenship and
Immigration Services (USCIS) started administering
a new naturalization test. The content now follows
a basic U.S. history and government curriculum
and focuses on fundamental principles within
three categories: American government, American
history, and integrated civics. The test is still
administered orally and an applicant must study
from a questionnaire of 100 questions, and must
still answer six out of 10 questions correctly to pass
the civics test.
There are three components of the English test:
speaking, reading, and writing. No changes were
made to the speaking portion of the English test.
An applicant’s ability to speak English is determined
by the USCIS Officer from the applicant’s answers
to questions normally asked during the eligibility
interview on the Application for Naturalization,
Form N-400.
Modifications were made to the reading and
writing tests. USCIS released reading and writing
vocabulary lists containing all the words found in
the new English reading and writing tests. You can
use the vocabulary lists to study. You must read 1
out of 3 items correctly to pass the reading test, and
you must write 1 out of 3 items correctly to pass
the writing test.
Do not worry if you don’t pass it the first time.
You will have another chance to take the test.With
your will and persistence you will achieve it.
Which is the difference between the two tests?
The main difference is that before you had to
memorize the answers and now you have to
understand them.
And What they want is for you to know the country
in which you live Do not think that is more difficult,
according to statistics from USCIS the test showed

the sentence
• Makes pronunciation or intonation errors that
interfere with meaning.

En el invierno la piel sufre las agresiones del
frío, el viento, los cambios de temperatura, la
calefacción, las corrientes... Es imprescindible
protegerla con los cuidados cosméticos
adecuados para permitir que tenga buen
aspecto. Te damos algunos consejos para cuidar
tu piel durante los meses más fríos.
¿Qué es la piel?
La piel está constituida de varias capas, la
epidermis, la capa más superficial, compuesta de
varias capas de células, y la dermis, más gruesa
y profunda, a la que llegan las terminaciones
nerviosas.
¿Cómo cuidarla?
La piel reacciona de forma tisular o vascular,
frente a los ataques de un entorno agresivo. Para
prevenir el envejecimiento cutáneo, conviene
cuidarla a diario.
La regla de oro: una buena higiene. Limpia y
desmaquilla el rostro dos veces al día, mañana
y noche, es primordial. Aunque llueva, haya
viento o sol, la piel tiene que estar purificada y
tonificada antes de ser hidratada.

Una piel bonita, lisa, suave y luminosa, es una
piel bien hidratada. La piel de los bebes es la
referencia en materia de suavidad por excelencia,
contiene un 80% de agua.
Sin embargo, en invierno la piel tiene tendencia
a secarse. Esta tirante, enrojecida, y puede
aparecer una cierta rugosidad. Son los síntomas
de la deshidratación.
Hay que evitar la pérdida de agua creando un
barrera protectora que impida que se pierdan
las moléculas de agua
- Elige cremas adaptadas con texturas ricas,
preferentemente en invierno, ya que nutren la
piel.
- Aplica mascarillas hidratantes, nutritivas,
regenerantes, dos veces por semana. Los activos
beneficiosos reparan la piel y la preparan para
afrontar las agresiones externas.
SOS anti-frío
- No olvides proteger la zona de los labios,
una zona muy frágil, con bálsamos o sticks
reparadores. En caso de grietas, aplica una capa
espesa, como una mascarilla, varias veces al día.

crema, un fluido o un bálsamo y masajea bien
desde las muñecas hasta las puntas de los

How to take care of your skin?
The skin reacts in a tissue or vascular form against
the attacks of aggressive surroundings. In order to
prevent premature aging of the skin due to these
conditions, one should take care of it on a daily
basis.
The golden rule is good hygiene.Wash your face and
remove your makeup twice a day, once during the
day and again at night. Keeping your skin clean
is fundamental to its health. Regardless of the
weather conditions, the skin must be purified and
toned before being hydrated.
Hydration – how to do it
Well-hydrated and healthy skin should appear
smooth, supple and glowing. Baby skin is a great
example, as it contains 80 percent water.
Nevertheless, during winter the skin has a tendency
to dry up and may turn red and feel coarse and
tight.These are the symptoms of dehydration.
A protective barrier is necessary in preventing water
molecules from being lost due to winter conditions.
- It is preferable to choose moisturizers with rich
textures during winter since they better nourish the
skin.
- Apply hydrating masks twice a day to protect,
nourish and revitalize the skin. This helps to both
repair the skin as well as to protect it from external
conditions.

- Do not forget to protect the areas around the
lips with balm, as they are very sensitive to the
conditions. In case of cracks, apply a thick layer
several times a day.
- Also protect your hands since gloves may not
always be enough. Use a well-hydrating balm or
other oil or lotion-based moisturizer and massage
your hands from the wrist to the tips of your fingers.
These moisturizers often contain petroleum jelly,
vegetable oils and silicone, which create a protective
layer. If you have cracked hands, apply a thick layer
and let it sit through the night.
During the winter months, the skin endures the

Cuando les preguntan a los padres que es lo
que más les preocupa en criar adolescentes
los siguientes temas son generalmente
mencionados: drogas y alcohol, mal juicio,

nunca es mencionado es enfermedades de
transmisión sexual.
El mejor camino mas seguro para prevenir
una enfermedad de transmisión sexual es
abstinencia. Los padres juegan un papel crítico
en influir la actitud de sus adolescentes y la
conducta hacia el sexo. Numerosos estudios
muestran que los adolescentes buscan en sus
padres la guía para formar sus actitudes y sus
conductas sexuales. Por eso es muy importante
que los padres hablen con sus adolescentes
acerca de la abstinencia sexual, enfermedades de
transmisión sexual y cómo manejar la presión
sexual de sus compañeros.
Las noticias de NBC y la revista People
comisionaron a los Socios de Investigación
de Inspección de Princeton Internacionales
para que cuestionarán a adolescentes de 13
a 16 años de edad acerca de sus actitudes y
prácticas sexuales. La encuesta encontró que el
27 por ciento de jóvenes se reportaron tener
relaciones íntimas, mientras sólo 15 por ciento
de sus padres creían que sus adolescentes
han ido más allá de un beso. El mismo estudio

requerimientos de reportar. En Idaho la clamidia
es la enfermedad de transmisión sexual más
común y la enfermedad más reportada entre
todas las enfermedades reportadas. Durante los
primeros seis meses de 2004, la clamidia hizo el
94.5 por ciento de todas las enfermedades de
transmisión sexual reportadas en Idaho.
Más de tres cuartos de los casos de clamidia
reportados estuvieron en los grupos de edades
entre los 15 a 24 años.
En el promedio, el 90 por ciento de mujeres y 60
por ciento de hombres que tienen una infección
de clamidia no tienen síntomas. Un 80 por
ciento de los hombres infectados con clamidia

When parents are asked what they worry most about
when raising teenagers the following topics are usually
mentioned: drug and alcohol abuse, bad judgment,
teen pregnancy, rape and car accidents. A subject that
is rarely mentioned is sexually transmitted diseases
(STDs).
The only sure way to prevent a STD is through sexual
abstinence. Parents play a critical role in influencing
their teenager’s attitude and behavior towards sex.
Numerous studies show teenagers look to their
parents for guidance in forming their sexual attitudes
and behavior.This is why it is so important for parents
to talk with their teens about sexual abstinence, STDs
and how to handle sexual pressure from their peers.
NBC News and PEOPLE magazine commissioned
Princeton Survey Research Associates International
to survey teenagers from 13- to 16-years old about
their sexual attitudes and practices. The survey found
27 percent of teens reported being sexually intimate,
while only 15 percent of their parents believed their
teen has gone beyond kissing.
The same study shows a big misconception among
parents and teens when communicating about sex and
relationships. Eighty-five percent of parents said they
talk to their teens about sex, while only 41 percent
of teens said they have had these conversations
with their parents. These statistics indicate far more
teenagers are engaging in sex than their parents are
willing to admit and parents are not always effective in
communicating with their teens about sexual issues.
Parents can have a lot of influence with their teenagers
regarding sexual activity and preventing STDs. By
sharing your values and beliefs with your children,
parents are more likely to influence their teenager’s
sexual attitudes and behavior. Parents also have a role
in educating their children about sex and the dangers
associated with early and frequent sexual activity.
STDs are infections that can be transferred from one
person to another through sexual contact. Nationally,
one in four teenagers has a STD. In the last five years
STDs have increased six percent among Idaho males
and females in the 15- to 19-age category. While the
number of teenage pregnancies has recently decreased,
the rate of STDs among teenagers continues to rise.
It is common for parents to think, “Not my child; she
would never get a STD.”The reality is STDs are prevalent
among teenagers from affluent and disadvantaged
backgrounds; males and females; and heterosexuals
and homosexuals. To protect our teenagers, parents
need to move beyond the denial state and recognize
STDs are a real and significant health problem among
our youth.
Chlamydia, gonorrhea, syphilis, HIV/AIDS and chancroid
are the STDs that Idaho health care providers are
required to report. In Idaho chlamydia is by far the
most common STD and the most reported disease
among all diseases reported. During the first six
months of 2004, chlamydia made up 94.5 percent of
all reported STDs in Idaho.
More than three quarters of the chlamydia
cases reported were in the 15- to 24-age
group.
On average, ninety percent of females and 60 percent
of males who have a chlamydia infection have no
symptoms. Some 80 percent of males infected
with chlamydia are unaware they have the disease.
Without proper treatment females with chlamydia can
suffer life-threatening complications, including tubal
pregnancy, chronic pelvic pain and infertility. Chlamydia
is easily cured with antibiotic treatment. Partners of
people infected with chlamydia should also receive
treatment to prevent the infection being passed back
and forth between the partners.
There are two categories of STDs: viral and bacterial.
Viral STDs such as herpes, HPV/genital warts and HIV
are not curable. A person with a viral STD can receive
treatment to control the symptoms, but they will live
with the disease for the rest of their life. Bacterial
STD’s, including chlamydia, gonorrhea and syphilis, are
curable and the usual treatment is taking antibiotics.
Honest and repeated discussion with your teenagers
about sex and preventing STDs could make a big
difference in your teenager’s future. While it might be
easier to ask what your teenager did in class today,
don’t put off having a talk with your teen about sex
and STDs.

Ya se que están pensando, Día de Acción
de Gracias Mexicano?
Se preguntaran “pero si en México y países
Hispanos no se celebra el día de Acción de
Gracias!”
Antes de que empiecen a averiguar cuando
México empezó a celebrar el día de Acción
de Gracias, déjenme explicarles: México
NO celebra el día de Acción de gracias al
estilo americano cuando los colonizadores
agradecieron a los indígenas por no atacarlos
mientras los imperialistas se tomaban su tierra.
Puedo imaginarme una mesa de Día de Acción
de Gracias así: Mole de Oaxaca, Barbacoa,
Cordero con Guajillo, Salsa de Chile, Carnitas
o Arroz Mexicano Amarillo con Vegetales.
Mm... o aun Arroz con leche, Flan Napolitano
y Ensalada de Manzana, Suena delicioso, Pero
realmente el significado de Acción de Gracias
no es que se come, la comida no importa tanto
como el tiempo que pasamos juntos en una
dulce comunión con familiares y amigos. Con
un corazón agradecido y aprovechando la
oportunidad invitando a nuestra mesa a otros
que no son tan afortunados como nosotros,
para compartir con ellos ese día alrededor de la
mesa. Y si lo podemos celebrar mas a menudo
no importa, cada día debe ser un día de acción
de gracias para todos.
Pero cual es la verdad? Los Mexicanos
son un pueblo realmente agradecido.
De hecho, nunca hemos visto una cultura
donde la palabra “gracias” es usada tan
frecuentemente.
Los pasajeros de los buses hispanos aun llegan a
agradecer al conductor cuando se bajan del bus.
Algunos le agradecen por no matarlos por su
conducir imprudente. Llegar a su destino vivo
en un bus hispano es algo por lo cual se esta
verdaderamente agradecido. Siempre desde
niños se nos enseña a agradecer a los demás
por todo, especialmente porque venimos de
países donde no nacimos con todo a la mano, así
que somos agradecidos por lo que tenemos y
recibimos cada día y no lo damos por sentado.
Por eso podemos darnos el lujo de separar
un día en el año donde podamos contar las
inmerecidas bendiciones sobre nosotros!
No seria algo especial? Un día mundial de
agradecimiento por las grandiosas bendiciones
de Dios hacia nosotros, en donde podemos
enseñarle a nuestros hijos lo bueno que es ser
agradecidos, pues ahora que lo tienen todo,
es nuestro deber recordarles que no todo el
mundo tiene el privilegio de tener lo que ellos
tienen. Así que tomemos esta oportunidad
para no solamente comer deliciosos platillos
si no para impartir algo positivo en las futuras
generaciones.
Y como celebramos el día de Acción de
Gracias? Pues el estilo cada uno lo escoge. En
la actualidad la mayor parte de los americanos
celebra esta fiesta de forma familiar con un
banquete en el que el plato tradicional para la
cena del Día de Acción de Gracias es un pavo
asado, con un relleno hecho de pan de maíz
y salvia y acompañado de salsa de arándanos.
Como postre, típicamente se sirve pastel de
calabaza o manzana.También podemos celebrar
a la Mexicana con Enchiladas, Tamales, Chiles
rellenos, que tal Pozole.

I know what you are thinking, Mexican
Thanksgiving?
Are you thinking “But neither Mexico nor Hispanic
countries celebrate Thanksgiving Day!”
Now, before you run for the nearest search engine
to find out when Mexico started celebrating
Thanksgiving, let me explain. Mexico does NOT
have an American-style Thanksgiving celebrating
when the Pilgrims thanked the Indigenous people
for not attacking them for the Imperialistic takeover
of their land.
But, what is the truth? Mexicans are indeed
a thankful people.
In fact, I have never seen a culture where the
word “thank you” is used as much. Hispanic bus
passengers will even make it a point to thank their
drivers when they leave the bus. Some thank the
drivers for not killing them with their reckless driving.
Getting to your destination alive on a Hispanic bus
really is something for which to be thankful.
From our childhood our parents taught us to say
thank you to everybody for everything, especially
because we are coming from countries where we
were not born with everything in our hands, that
is why we are so thankful for what we have and
have received each day and we don’t take it from
granted.

That is why we can afford one day of the year
where we count God’s undeserved blessings upon
us! Wouldn’t that be something? A planetary day
of thanks for God’s great blessings toward us,
where we can teach our children how good is to be
thankful. Because now that they have everything is
our duty remind them that not everybody have the
privilege of having what they already have.Then let
us take this opportunity not only to eat delicious
dishes but to impart something positive for future
generations.
And how we celebrate Thanksgiving Day?
Each one of us can choose the style.At present most
of the Americans celebrate this date with family
with a banquet in which the traditional plate for
Thanksgiving Day is a Roasted turkey, with a filling
made with corn bread and Sage and accompanied
by cranberry sauce.
For dessert, usually we have pumpkin pie or apple
pie.
We can also celebrate Mexican Style with some
Enchiladas Tamales, Chiles Rellenos, or what about
Pozole.
I can imagine a Mexican Thanksgiving spread
looking a little like this: Oaxaca -Style Mole,
Barbacoa, Lamb with Guajillo Chile Sauce, Carnitas,
or Mexican Yellow Rice with Vegetables. Mm… or
even Arroz con Leche, Flan Napolitano and Apple
Salad. Sound delicious but the real meaning of
thanksgiving day it is not what we eat, the food

others to our table who are not as fortunate as we
are to share with them that day around the table.
And if we can celebrate it more often it does not
matter, every day must be a thanksgiving day for
all of us.

Una de sus ambiciones en la vida era ser estilista profesional
y tener su propio negocio. Ella regresó a México para
completar sus estudios en la Academia de Cosmetología
en Chihuahua, México.
Al regresar a los Estados Unidos se estableció en Nampa,
Idaho, donde empezó a poner en práctica su nueva
carrera. Comenzó a trabajar en un salón de belleza como
estilista . Mas tarde, con el apoyo de su familia y su gran
esfuerzo abrió su propio negocio llamado Daniela´s
Beauty Salón, distinguiéndose en su profesión.
Otro objetivo primordial en la vida de Daniela es
continuar sus estudios como asistente de médico.
Ella ha completado su formación básica en Henager
de Stevens-College y realizó su práctica en la
Clínica de Star.
Mirada Magazine destaca una vez mas las fortalezas
que tiene la mujer actual en la sociedad, y sobretodo
el apoyo que se le tiene que dar a la juventud de hoy
para hacer grandes personas en el futuro.

One of her life’s ambitions was to be a professional
stylist and have her own business. She returned
to Mexico to complete her studies at the
Cosmetology Academy in Chihuahua, Mexico.
Upon her return to the United States she settled
in Nampa, Idaho where she began to put into
practice her life long studies. She began working in
a beauty salon as a hair stylist. Soon after, with the
support of her family and great effort she opened
her own business named Daniela’s Beauty Salon,
where she has been able to distinguish herself in
her profession.
Another of Daniela’s goal is to obtain a degree as
a Medical Assistant. She has completed her Basic
training at Stevens-Henager College and served
an internship at the Star Medical Clinic.
Mirada Magazine is proud to note the
accomplishments of women in our community
and above all we support all efforts to support
our youth so that they too realize all that they
can be in the future.
We wish Daniela much success in all her
projects and our wish is that she continues
to realize all of her life goals in the future.

¿Que es estar asegurado?
Todos enfrentamos riesgos todos los dias.
Cuando manejamos, corremos el riesgo de un
accidente. Nuestros hogares corren el riesgo
de incendiarse y tenemos el riesgo de perder
nuestras posesiones en robos. Nuestra salud y
vida están en riesgo aún cuando no percibimos
ningún peligro. Una buena manera de explicar
seguros es que nos permite compartir nuestros
riesgos. Eso significa que cuando una persona
tiene una pérdida, el costo está compartido con
cientos o miles de personas. De esa manera,
ningun individuo tiene gastos catastróficos.
¿Que tipos de seguros están disponibles?
Casi todo lo que tiene valor se puede asegurar.
Los tipos de seguros mas comunes protegen
nuestros hogares, carros, vidas, y salud. Otro
tipo de seguros se llama “liability insurance”,
este seguro protege a los demás cuando
causamos daños a terceros. Por ejemplo, un
conductor de carro compra este seguro así
que, si causa un choque, puede pagar los gastos
de las personas heridas y los daños de su prop
iedad. En los Estados Unidos, es ilegal manejar
un carro sin Liability Insurance.
¿Necesito seguros?
Necesitamos seguros cuando tenemos cosas de
valor, como una casa o un carro. Si tenemos
préstamos bancarios, el banco requiere que
tengamos pólizas de seguros. Y si manejamos
un carro, la ley dice que tengamos Liability
Insurance. En Idaho, el mínimo nivel de Liability
es $25,000 por persona, hasta $50,000 por
accidente. Manejar sin este seguro resulta con
grandes multas y la pérdida del privelegio de
manejar.

We all face risks everyday. When we drive, we have
the risk of an accident. Our homes have the risk
of fire and our possessions have the risk of being
stolen. Our health and even our lives are at risk all
the time, even when we do not perceive the danger.
A good way to explain insurance is that it allows
us to share our risks. This means that when one
person experiences a loss, the cost of that loss is
shared by hundreds or thousands of people. In
this way, no individual is faced with catastrophic
expenses.
What kinds of insurance are available?
Just about anything that has value can be insured.
The most common types of insurance protect our
homes, cars, lives, and health. Another type of
insurance is called liability insurance. This protects
other people from harm that we might cause them.
For example, a driver buys liability insurance so that,
if he causes a wreck, he will be able to pay for
the damage he causes to other people and their
property. In the United States, it is illegal to drive a
car without liability insurance.
Do I need insurance?
If you cannot afford to lose your home or car,
you need insurance. If you have bank loan for a
home or car, the bank will require you to have
insurance. And if you drive a car, you must have
liability insurance. In Idaho, the law requires drivers
to purchase a minimum of $25,000 of liability
damage for each person injured in an accident,
up to $50,000. Driving without this insurance is
against the law and can result in serious fines and
the loss of driving privileges.

TIENE SU PROPIO
CELULAR?

lo cual ha sido una queja de los usuarios.
En conclusión, el Google G1 no es muy atractivo
al principio pero tiene mucha funcionalidad y está
mas conectado con el web, y siendo la primera
version de este producto, tiene mucho potencial
una vez que se remedien sus deficiencias.
Lo importante aqui es el sistema operativo
(OS) Android el cual esta definiendo nuevas
fronteras en el terreno de embedded OS
como el Windows CE y Palm. Por esta razón
recomiendo el teléfono ya que otros teléfonos
inteligentes en el mercado no llegan ni siquiera
cerca a la filosofía de Google y la tecnología que
están implementando.
Crealo o no, la conocida corporación Google
Inc. Ha salido con su propia versión de celular, el
T-Mobil G1 ($179 con un contrato de dos años).
Como es esto posible? Bueno, Google, con la
meta en mente de “organizar el mundo de la
informacióon y hacerlo universalmente accesible
y usable” creó Android, el primer sistema
operativo (OS) embedded disponible a todos
gratuitamente como Open Source (licencia
abierta). Todo está dominado por el Internet, y
que puede ser mejor que tenerlo todo, como
son las herramientas Google disponibles via su
celular. Inicialmente, este teléfono no parece
ser muy diferente de los demás, pero si usas el
Google Android por 5 minutos, te darás cuenta
que es uno de los mejores diseños de celulares
que puedas conseguir.
Porqué deberiamos comprar este telefono? El
G1 tiene muy buenas características que lo hace
sobresalir entre los otros. Como mencioné
antes, el OS Android en el G1 es bastante
rápido para iniciar comparado a otros en su
categoría. Tiene un práctico teclado QWERTY
que se desliza, lo cual funciona muy bien en
una superficie plana. Usa una buena bocina y
contiene muchos programas que se pueden
bajar del Internet. Aunque el G! no tiene un
disco duro como el Apple® iPhone®, tiene una
micro-SD tarjeta que tiene capacidad de hasta
4 gigas lo cual lo hace muy liviano comparado a
los otros, incluyendo al iPhone® mismo.
Cuales son los problemas con el G1? Bueno, el
G1 en general es bueno aunque prescinde de
ciertas cosas que lo podrían hacer mejor. De
acuerdo con algunas experiencias, uno de los
problemas es que no tiene un puerto para los
audifonos como el iPhone®. El G1 no tiene un
teclado virtual (soft keyboard), tiene problemas
con fuga de memoria, el video es un poco
limitado, algunos programas tardan mucho en
iniciar y no apoya los Google Docs.
El otro problema es que, como el Apple
iPhone®, tiene exclusividad con una compañía

own cell phone now?
Believe it or not, the well known corporation
Google Inc has already come up with their own
cell phone the “T-Mobil G1 ($179 with a twoyear contract)”. How it’s this possible? Well,
Google, with their goal in mind “to organize
the world’s information and make it universally
accessible and useful” created Android, the first
Google Embedded OS (Operating Systems)
available to anyone for free as an open source
OS. Everything is dominated by the internet,
and what can be better than having it all, the
Google web tools accessible through your
mobile device. However, this phone does not
seem very different than regular phones, but, if
you use the Google Android operating system
for 5 minutes, you will realize that is one of the
best designed phones you can buy.
Why should I buy this phone? The G1 has very
good characteristics that make it stand out. As
mentioned before, the Android OS in the G1
is fairly quick to startup compared to others
in its category. It has a very practical QUERTY
keyboard that slides out, which works great on
solid ground. Uses a very good speaker and
contain lots of powerful and useful applications
to download. Even though the G1 doesn’t have
a hard drive as the iPhone does, it has an msd card slot to extend the memory up to 4gbs
making it very light compared to other phones
and the iPhone itself.
Whats the bad side of the G1? Well the G1 is
an overall good phone. However, it has certain
things that could be better. According to some
reviews, the phone’s the biggest drawback is
that the G1 doesn’t have a headphone plug as
the iPhone does.The G1 does not have a virtual
QWERTY keyboard that runs as an app. There
is a memory leak running inside the Operating
System. The video playback is very limited and
programs sometimes delay on start up. It does
not have a video camera and does not support
Google docs.
In Conclusion, the T-Mobile G1 phone its
not very attractive at first, but it has a lot of
great functionality that adds life to your web
experience in your mobile device. Android
being the first generation of Google’s OS, brings
Google into a new realm in technology where
lots of developers will make Android a top
Operating System. For this reason, I recommend
this phone over other smart phones in the
market that will not get even close to the
magnitude of the philosophy of Google and the
technology they are implementing.

desperate hopes and dreams of a

Ya que se aproximan las elecciones presidenciales de los Estados
Unidos en noviembre, ¿Qué podemos esperar? Hoy en día el humor
de millones de personas del país se puede resumir en una sola palabra
— inseguridad. Toda persona, incluyendo al latino nacido aquí o recién
inmigrado, documentado o no, se encuentra en la misma situación o
peor. Enfrentamos la amenaza terrible de guerra, bancarrota hipotecaria,
empleos que se desaparecen, y el aumento incansable de los precios
de la gasolina y los alimentos. El mundo que muchos conocieron en
su juventud ya no existe. Muchísimos jovenes entran a su mayoria de
edad sin conocer más que la inseguridad. Ya que sin empleo, ¿cómo
van a sobrevivir? El temor se ha apoderdo de las personas: el temor
a los vecinos, el temor a cualquier persona con apariencia diferente.
Inmigrantes Latinos son víctimas de crimenes de odio. Cómo la muerte
a golpes de Luis Ramirez en Shenandoah, PA. Y ni siquiera existe alguna
esperanza para la legalización.
Sin importar como votemos en noviembre, es decir los que puedan, yá
es tiempo de abrir los ojos a la realidad. Debemos de dejar de brindar
apoyo ciego a candidatos que nos guían en contra de nuestros mejores
intereses, no importa a cual partido político pertenezcan.
Hay muchos quienes dan gracias por el fin de ocho años del régimen
republicano de George W. Bush. Pues el y sus compinches nos
Involucraron en las guerras de Afghanistan e Irak. En el campo doméstico,
el gobierno recortó programas para el beneficio del público mientras
que facilitó que centenares de sus amistades de la industria petrólera y
otros se beneficiaron de fondos gubernamentales en formas de contratos
exclusivos, regalos y reembolsos de impuestos.
Muchos, particularmente los jóvenes, buscan algo nuevo con el senador
demócrata Barack Obama.
Fué obvio, ya que Obama derrotó a la candidata de la guardia establecida
demócrata Hillary Clinton. Pero algunos señalan que a pesar de diferencias
de color y de afiliación partidaria, existen muy pocas diferencias
sustanciales entre Obama y el candidato republicano John McCain en
términos de sus plataformas de campaña.
Otros insisten que John McCain es el mejor candidato, dado su experencia
militar y su apoyo hacia la exploración de pozos petroleros en el mar, ya
que presenciamos la amenaza de guerra con Iran, y tensiones con Rusia
por la reciente guerra en Georgia.
¿Qué en realidad podemos esperar de las elecciones de noviembre?
Desafortunadamente, la continuación de las misma política, y quizá, algo
peor. Aunque uno de los candidatos quisiera independientemente forjar
su propio camino para el bienestar de todos, no podría. Las corporaciones
son las que en realidad manejan este país en sus propios intereses, y los
aparatos multimillonarios de los republicanos y de los democratas bailan
al son de ellas.
Tenemos toda indicación que ninguno de los candidatos se atrevería a
hacerlo. Los dos candidatos han mostrado que sus posiciones pueden
ser empujadas aún más hacia la derecha. Por ejemplo, el senador Obama
renunció a su pastor Jeremiah Wright después de críticas dirigidas al
pastor por lo que dijó desde el púlpito, a pesar de que en realidad lo que
dijo es la verdad acerca del racismo en este país. A la vez, McCain trata
de balanciarse entre su imagen como conservador moderado quién se
doblega a la derecha religiosa.

Cuando en verdad si analizan las posiciones de los dos candidatos, las
diferencias son pocas.
Los intereses monetarios promueven al candidato quién mejor sirve sus
intereses. Desafortunadamente, la fé ciega de algunos sindicatos hacia el
Partido Demócrata ayuda en esto.
Debemos de molestarnos con el hecho de que la Asociación de Educadores
Nacionales y la Asociación de Maestros de California brindaron apoyo
incondicional al senador Obama, a pesar de preocupación legítima acerca
de sus propuestas para la educación.
¿Qué hay que hacer?
¿Seguimos con el sendero de buscar el menos mal de los candidatos como
hemos hecho en el pasado? ¿O le buscamos en otro lugar? Un mejor
futuro es posible, pero tendremos que forjar nuestro propio camino para
lograrlo. Para comenzar, necesitamos empezar con la realidad. Somos
parte de una clase cuyos intereses están en oposición a los intereses de
las corporaciones y de la clase capitalista que las representa. Al igual que
el ideal de “el gobierno del pueblo, para el pueblo, y por el pueblo” de la
Revolución Americana causó pavor a los reinatos de Europa hace más de
200 años. El empezar a organizarnos en nuestros propios intereses para
el bien de toda la comunidad hará lo mismo en el períiodo de tiempo
antes y después de las elecciones de noviembre, 2008.
El verdadero cambio es posible, pero tenemos
que trabajar para lograrlo nosotros, utilizando
nuestros propios indicadores.
En que dirección va el país?
El 82% de la gente cree que el país se dirige en la dirección equivocada.
Al examinar la situación, es fácil ver por qué. En el 2007, cinco millones
más de estadounidenses integraron las filas de la pobreza. Más de 47
millónes de estadounidenses no tienen seguro médico. Se ha llegando
a un número nunca jamás visto de gente que está perdiendo sus casas
al no poder pagar sus hipotecas mientras que se presencia la mayor
destrucción de viviendas públicas. Científicos de todas partes predicen
la escasez de agua y alimento, empobreciendo y trayendo hambre a
millones a través del mundo debido al calentamiento global.
Como la tecnología ha mejorado la maquinaría, las computadoras y la
electrónica han llegado a ser más capacez que reemplazan trabajadores.
El ejemplo más dramático está en el sector de manufactura pero también
se puede ver con las máquinas ATM y las cajas registradoras sin ningún
empleado que verifican el valor de los comestibles. Está tecnología
acoplada con las corporaciones sin fronteras que vagabundean el globo
en busca del trabajo más barato, impuestos más baratos y leyes menos
restrictivas del trabajo y del ambiente han desestabilizado completamente
nuestra sociedad. Ha conducido a la pérdida permanente de trabajos
y han forzado a los trabajadores empobrecidos a través del mundo a
emigrar en busca de la supervivencia.
A la vez, entre 1983 y 2004 la riqueza del un por ciento más alto de
la población ha crecido por más de un 78%, lo cual agrega otros 184
nuevos billonarios desde 1984. Estos niveles de desigualdad no se han
visto desde el decenio de 1920 y son el resultado de más de cuarenta
años de bipartidismo politico y económico y políticas que han destruido
sistemáticamente la seguridad social. En estas elecciones se pide por
cambio. La gente está tomando conciencia que un puñado se ha hecho
rico a sus expensas. En las elecciones del 2008 las verdaderas demandas
de la mayoría tienen que ponerse al frente de todas.

image while at the same time acquiescing to the religious right. Indeed when
their positions are looked at closely, the differences are mostly tactical.
With the Presidential elections coming up in November , what can we expect?
The mood of millions in America today can be summed up by one word
– insecurity. All Americans, including Latinos born here and those recently
immigrated, whether documented or not are in the same boat. We all face the
terrible threat of war, skyrocketing home foreclosures, evaporating jobs, and gas
and food prices continue to increases.The world many Americans grew up with
now seems a distant memory.Too many young people are coming of age never
having known anything else but insecurity.
The moneyed interests promote the candidate that can best serve their
interests. And unfortunately the blind faith of some unions in the Democratic
Party aids and abets this. We should find it disturbing for ex ample, that the
National Educational Association and the California Teachers Association gave
unconditional support for Senator Obama, despite legitimate concerns over his
education proposals.
Fear of strangers, fear of neighbors, fear of anyone who looks different are
commonplace now days. Latino immigrants are victims of hate crimes.
And a legalization proposal is nowhere in sight.
Regardless of how we vote in November, we have to start by opening our eyes.
We have to stop blindly supporting candidates that lead us against our better
interests, regardless of which party they belong to.
Some may welcome the end of eight years of the Republican George W. Bush
Presidency. After all, he and his entourage are seen as having brought us
the on-going wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. Domestically, he promised to get
government out of our lives, though many of his oil friends and cronies have
received government money in the form of no bid contracts, handouts and tax
refunds, while the public got cuts in funding.
Many, particularly youth, look for something new with Democratic Senator
Barack Obama, a lesson driven home with his upset victory against old guard
Democrat Hillary Clinton. Others point out that despite color differences
and party affiliation, there is very little difference between Obama and his
Republican rival on their campaign platforms.
Some claim that Republican candidate John McCain is the best man for the
job.With the threat of war with Iran, with heightened tensions with Russia over
the recent war with former Soviet Georgia and with the rising price of oil, it is
claimed that his military experience and support for off-shore oil drilling mean
that he can best insure our personal and financial security.
What can we really expect from the elections of November?
Unfor tunatel y, more in the same regardless of who is elected, and perhaps
much worse. Even if either candidate wanted to chart an independent course
and give his all for the every day American he can’t.
The corporations, which really run this country behind the scenes, and the
multimillion dollar Republican and Democratic Party apparatuses which do
their bidding, wouldn’t let him.
And we have good reason to believe that neither candidate is willing to go
against the establishment. Both candidates have shown that their positions can
be moved further to the right with the correct pressure. For example, Senator
Obama renounced his pastor Jeremiah Wright, despite the fact that what the
pastor said was acknowledged to be true about race relations in this country.
Meanwhile McCain does a balancing act catering to his moderate conservative
So what is there to do? Should we continue to pursue the “lesser evil” approach,
as we have done in the past? Or should we start to look elsewhere? A brighter
future is possible but we will have to work towards it ourselves using our own
guideposts. It will take realizing and acting upon the fact that we are part
of a class whose interests are opposed to those of the corporations and the
capitalist class that represents them.
Just as the ideal of “government of the people, for the people, and by the people”
of the American Revolution ran shivers of fear throughout the monarchies of
Europe over 200 years ago, so today, Americans beginning
to organize in their self-interests for the common good should do the same in
the period up to and following the elections of November, 2008.
Real change is possible, but we will
have to work towards it ourselves, using
our own guideposts.
Where is our country headed?
The sky is falling for the American middle class and they know it since 82% of the
American people believe that the country is headed in the wrong direction. As we
take stock it is easy to see why. In 2007, five million more Americans fell below the
poverty line. More than 47 million Americans have no health insurance.
Record numbers are loosing their homes to foreclosure alongside the wholesale
destruction of public housing. Reports rom scientists all over the world predict
increased food and water shortages impoverishing and st arving millions worldwide
due to global warming.
As technology has improved machines, computers and electronics have become
more capable replacing workers in jobs. The most dramatic example is in the
manufacturing sector but it is also seen with ATM machines and clerkless check-out
lines at grocer stores. Improved technology, coupled with borderless corporations
that roam the globe in search of the cheapest labor, best tax breaks and least
restrictive labor and environmental laws, has completely destabilized our society, led
to the permanent loss of jobs and has forced
impover ished workers worldwide to migrate in search of survival.
At the same time, b tween 1983 and 2004 the wealth of the top one percent
grew by over 78% adding another 184 new billionaires since 1984. These levels of
inequality have not been seen since the 1920s and are the result of over forty years
of bi-partisan economic and political policies that have systematically
destroyed the social safety net in the name of global capital competition. Americans
are clamoring for change, they see that the game has been rigged at their
expense.
As we move toward the 2008 elections, these are the real issues of the people the
question is wil they be answered?

TIEMPO SERÁ UN CRACK
Nunca imaginé que el joven delantero de las Chivas, Omar Arellano, diera
el estirón tan rápido, es más, pensé que la directiva de este equipo no
haría válida la opción de compra al Pachuca el año pasado, pero hay que
reconocer que Jorge Vergara y su equipo acertó nuevamente, pues hoy
día tienen a un futuro goleador en potencia.
Lo que ha hecho este joven futbolista en las canchas del River Plate y
Paranaense (estos dos conjuntos en la Copa Sudamericana) y últimamente
en el Azteca ante América (torneo local), es digno de alabarse, y me
confirman la madurez del atacante rojiblanco, quien no ha necesitado de
los reflectores para que la gente lo empiece a tomar en cuenta.
Me parece que en el balompié azteca hay muy pocos futbolistas con las
características de Omar Arellano, quien es encarador, rápido, habilidoso y,
lo más importante, que sabe leer muy bien los partidos, por lo si se logra
consolidar en el conjunto jalisciense no creo que tarde mucho tiempo en
decir adiós de este futbol.
En resumen, ojalá que Omar se concentre mucho en su carrera
sin despegar los pies de la tierra, sabedor que todo mundo estará al
pendiente de él a partir de estos momentos, pues no vaya ser que le pase
como a otros grandes prospectos, que tanto se esperaba de ellos que
se quedaron solamente en eso, caso concreto Jesús Mendoza, y ahora
alguien me podría decir qué fue de él.

Cristiano Ronaldo was named as soccer’s best player by his peers
after scoring 42 goals last season to help Manchester United win the
Champions League and Premier League titles.
The 23-year-old Portugal winger, who was courted by Real Madrid in the
off-season, received the most votes from the 57,500 members of FIFPro,
the worldwide body representing soccer players said on its Web site.
“To be recognized by my fellow professional players worldwide coming
from over 50,000 players is amazing,” Ronaldo said in a statement. “I
would like to thank my teammates and coaches and everyone involved at
Manchester United and the national team, as well as my family and friends
for their support.”
Ronaldo is also likely to be among the contenders for world governing
body FIFA’s world player of the year award and the Ballon d’Or, which is
voted for by journalists and organized by France Football magazine.
Ronaldo, who missed the start of this campaign following ankle surgery,
had called a potential switch to Madrid his “dream” move. This week he
told Spanish sports daily Marca that he is now likely to stay at United
next season.
He’s been with his English club since August 2003, following a 12.2
million-pound ($18.8 million) switch from Sporting Lisbon, scoring 95
goals in 248 matches.
Ronaldo’s United teammate Rio Ferdinand was also named in FIFPro’s
world XI, with Chelsea captain John Terry and Liverpool midfielder Steven
Gerrard. Liverpool striker Fernando Torres is among five players included

El gobierno informó el Lunes que la venta de
casas nuevas subieron a un 2,7% en Septiembre,
después de un gran decline de 12,6% en Agosto
Economistas esperaban que la venta de casas
nuevas iba a disminuir a 2,2%. Sin embargo las
ventas declinaron a un 33,1% comparada con
las ventas en el mismo periodo un ano atrás
El número de casas nuevas en el mercado
también disminuyo a un 7,3% en Agosto. El

venta quizás sea realmente bueno para el

New home sales unexpectedly jumped in September;
however the once titanic housing market is far weaker
than it was last year.
The government reported Monday that new home sales
were up 2.7% in September, after plunging 12.6% in
August.Economists expected new home sales to drop by
2.2%. New home sales, however, were down 33.1% as
compared with the same period last year.

from August. Having fewer new homes for sale might
actually be good for the beleaguered housing market. As
the supply of new homes falls, the prices of new homes
– which have slid 9.1% from last year – should stabilize.
“Despite the extremely low level of sales, inventory
[dropped] sharply because home builders have cut
production almost to nothing. If supply can continue
falling at the September pace, inventory would be
greatly reduced within a few months,” High Frequency
Economics Chief U.S. Economist Ian Shepherdson wrote
in a research note.
There is, of course, a caveat to that theory: demand for
new homes also needs to stabilize.
“Until then however, prices will keep falling, even as
volumes stabilize or rebound a bit,” Shepherdson added.
In general, though, economists remain pessimistic on the
future of the housing market.
“Going forward, sales will continue to drop because of
falling house prices for existing homes, tighter credit,
and a deteriorating economy,” IHS Global Insight U.S.
Economist Patrick Newport wrote in a research note.
