Altar for All Souls Day
In honor of All Souls Day we will be setting up an altar in the
vestibule of the church. Please bring a picture of your loved
one that has passed away, so it can form part of this
beautiful tradition. You may leave the
picture in the church office or give it to Lupe
Gutierrez. The picture must be no bigger
than 3 X 4 in.

En honor a el Día de los muertos se
levantara un altar en la entrada de la iglesia, por favor traiga
una fotografía de su ser querido fallecido, para que forme
parte de esta bonita tradición, puede dejar la fotografía en
la oficina o entregarla a Lupe Gutierrez. La foto debe ser de
3 X 4 pulgadas o menos.
All young adults, ages 18 (high school grad) through 35 are
invited to participate in Journey. Journey meets on some
Monday evenings to discuss the upcoming Sunday gospel
reading. Other weeks the group goes to Ft. Worth to
participate in Theology on Tap (TOT) and Young Catholic
Professionals (YCP). TOT and YCP bring together young
adults from around the diocese to explore our Catholic faith
and learn how to live our Catholicism every day. For more

World Mission Sunday
Today is World Mission Sunday! In announcing his decision
to declare a Holy year of Mercy, Pope Francis said, “Dear
brothers and sisters, I have often thought about how the
Church might make clear its mission of being a witness to
mercy.” Supporting the young churches throughout the
world with your prayers and generous gifts is indeed a
merciful witness of this mission. The collection today will
help missionaries offer the poor of these areas practical help
as they share the mercy of God. It will ensure the
development of local dioceses, and support the work of
priests, religious and lay leaders who serve those on the
margins and in most need. Extend your merciful witness to
the whole world through your gift in today’s collection for
the Society for the Propagation of the Faith!
Domingo Mundial de las Misiones
¡Hoy es el Domingo Mundial de las Misiones! Al anunciar su
decisión de declarar un Ano Santo de la Misericordia, el
Papa Francisco expreso: “Apreciados hermanos y hermanas,
con frecuencia he pensado en cómo puede la Iglesia dejar
claro su misión de testificar en misericordia.” Apoyar a las
iglesias jóvenes de todo el mundo con sus oraciones y
generosos aportes, de hecho, un testimonio misericordioso

Youth Ministry in Need of Help
Our Youth Ministry is in need of 1 or 2 catechists for 8th
grade. The class currently has too many youth and will be
split to make 2 classes. We also need adult aides and helpers
for Wednesday evenings. Please call Erica Espinoza at the
office, 817-326-2131, if you are interested. We are still
asking parents to sign up and volunteer at least one
Wednesday throughout the year.

Nuestro Ministerio de Jóvenes ocupa 1 o 2 catequistas para
el salón del grado 8. Actualmente hay demasiados jóvenes y
se repartirán en dos salones. También ocupamos adultos

Upcoming Events for Youth
World Youth Day North Texas Will be at Levitt Pavilion in
Arlington on Sunday November 6th 2-9pm. Families, children
and youth are invited to attend. Cost is $30. There will be
Mass with Bishop Olson, Activities, Food Trucks and a

Safe and Sacred
The Fort Worth Diocese has recently changed the Safe
Environment Program to Safe and Sacred. This program can
only be accessed by a computer, phone or ipad. If you are
new, please call Denise Hall at 817-326-2131 and directions
will be emailed to you. A postcard will be sent out to all that
are in need of renewal. If you do not have a computer, a
computer in the church office will be available to you.

New Parish Directory
Our church is going to publish a new pictorial directory
through Lifetouch. Reserve your appointment time in the
Narthex of the church. Sign-ups will be held after Saturday &
Sunday Masses during the month of October. Each family
that comes in for a photography and portrait viewing at the
church will receive a complimentary directory and an 8 X 10
color portrait. You will be able to view and select your
portraits electronically from a variety of poses. Additional
Lifetouch portraits will be available for purchase. Your entire
appointment will normally take less than one hour. The
directory will not be complete without you! Volunteers are
needed to help with the directory, you may also sign up
after masses. Thank You for your consideration.

"Jesus "spoke this parable addressed to those
who believed in their own self-righteousness..."

The Pharisee's piety was admirable. He tithed ten percent of his
gross income. He fasted two days a week, probably a very severe
fast. How many of us tithe and fast to that extent? However, St.
Luke points out specifically that his "prayer" was directed to
himself, not to God (Lk 18:11, JB, RSV-CE). He compared his
virtue to the standards of other people, not to the standards of
God.
The tax collector's piety was not admirable. The tax collectors of
Jesus' time were Jews who worked for the Romans. They
routinely extorted their own people to get a better commission.
Perhaps this was the only time this man had even been to the
Temple. But this tax collector possessed the vision to see his own
lowliness before God. He also avoided comparing himself to
others. Instead, He compared his own sinful life to the holiness of
God, and cast himself upon the mercy of God (Lk 18:13).
In today's second reading, St. Paul seems to resemble the
Pharisee more than the tax collector. He "boasts" about how he,
too, has been faithful to God (see 2 Tm 4:7). However, St. Paul's
comments were a testimony to the Lord's faithfulness rather than
a litany of self-praise meant for God to overhear. Paul gives
credit to God for any good he has done. The Pharisee gives credit
to himself, rejecting God's goodness in his life.
Any good thing in our lives is God's doing (Phil 2:13). "Name
something you have that you have not received," particularly a
spiritual talent or gift. "If, then, you have received it, why are
you boasting as if it were your own?" (1 Cor 4:7)
