Parish Work Day Is Coming!
We need volunteers to help us with cleaning up our grounds after the long, hard winter!
Bring a shovel, rake, work gloves—and a wheelbarrow if you have one!—and please join
us on Saturday, May 31, 9:00 AM to Noon as we spruce up our landscaping. This is a
great opportunity to fulfill service hours for school or sacramental prep, too. Any amount
of time you can give will be greatly appreciated! Water and lunch will be provided.
Rosary-based Yoga/Pilates at Saint
Monica
Maximize your time by praying and working out at the same
time! This free class will be offered June 9, 16, 23 and 30
from 6-7 p.m. in the St. Augustine Room. We'll follow along
with a SoulCore DVD (www.soulcoreproject.com). This
workout, devised by women at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel,
combines yoga and Pilates movements while the rosary is
recited, with time for reflection between each decade. Bring a
yoga mat, wear comfortable clothes, and prepare to be challenged physically while
reflecting on the mysteries and virtues of the rosary. There is no charge for this class. For
information contact Natalie Hoefer at 295-1697.
Natural Family Planning Classes
For all married and engaged couples! Have you wanted to learn more about Natural
Family Planning and the Church's teachings on marriage? You are invited to attend a
series of classes on NFP taught by the Couple to Couple League to learn a method that is
safe, effective and natural for both achieving and postponing pregnancy. The first course
(of three total) will be held at St. Monica's from 1-3:30 PM on Sunday, June 8. Please
contact Rafael and Cathleen Rosario at [email protected] for more information. To
register, go to http://www.nfpindy.org/ and select "find class".

St. Monica Parish
Mission Statement
St. Monica Parish is a
multi-cultural Catholic
community advancing our faith by
making the Word of God come
alive through prayer,
liturgy, education,
evangelization, and stewardship.
6th Sunday of Easter
"If you love me, you will keep my commandments." It\'s not
uncommon to associate the word "commands" with images of
dictatorship. We can tend to think of commandments as obstacles
to real freedom, imposed by some angry, powerful tyrant who
just wants to be in control. Call them directions, or suggestions,
or guidelines if you will, but not commands! It almost feels like
an insult. But today, Jesus breaks out of these stereotypes. He
casts the commandments in the context of love. He does not
insist on any obligation to follow them. Rather, he says that
whoever observes his commandments "is the one who loves me."
Remember Those Who
Gave All!
Little Sisters of the Poor
Rummage Sale
Mother Mary Vincent is pleased to
announce that the Little Sisters will have
another Fabulous Rummage Sale at St
Augustine's Home, 2345 West 86th Street,
Indianapolis on June 6-7 from
10:00 AM—4:00 PM. There will be a lot
of furniture, many household items,
glassware, kitchen items, books and
surprises! Come early to get in on the
super bargains! This is one sale you won't
want to miss!
So just what commandments will we be following if we love the Lord? When Jesus was
questioned about this, he said the two greatest commandments are to "love the Lord, your
God, with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind," and to "love your
neighbor as yourself," (Mt 22:37-39). Even the commands he gives us are rooted in love,
not legalism. Of course, when we follow these principles we will naturally keep the
traditional Ten Commandments, which give more specific instructions on how to love
God and neighbor.
As we know from experience, when we truly love someone, we desire to make them
happy. When they are content, we are content. So the more we love Jesus, the more we
will want to please him. Thus, following his commandments ultimately makes us happy
too. Understood in these terms, the commandments don\'t stifle us, they satisfy us! God
doesn't restrict our freedom; he respects it. Ultimately, it is our choice whether or not we
will live the life of love that Jesus offers us.

Nosotros mismos no podríamos conocerle.

Parish Pastoral Council (PPC)
The Parish Pastoral Council is a consultative body of
parishioners who assist the Pastor in guiding the parish on issues
requiring practical wisdom and investigation. The PPC has three
purposes: 1) to investigate pastoral matters; 2) to give these
matters in-depth consideration and prayer; and 3) to propose
practical conclusions and assist in cultivating our vision. Twelve
parishioners discerned their participation on PPC for a threeyear term through June 30, 2015 related to the parish theme of
“Immersed in Christ: One Body. One Mission.” The PPC meets
the second Wednesday of the month. All parishioners are
welcome to attend! The next meeting is June 11 from
6:45 PM to 9:15 PM in Holy Family Room. Agendas and
