The Poor Box for the month of June is for Interfaith Housing Coalition, part of Interfaith Works. IHC provides supported housing to homeless families. IHC families live in one of 26 housing units scattered throughout the County, supported by dedicated professional case managers. When ready, families are linked with teams of volunteer mentors through Interfaith Works’ Friends in Action program, who give guidance, support, and friendship as families work towards economic independence and social stability. The Little Sisters of the Poor will be coming to our Parish this weekend, June 14-15, to request our assistance with their mission in caring for the Elderly Poor. The Sisters will be at the doors of the Church after each Mass to accept voluntary gifts of support. Thank you for your kindness to them. The parish community of St. Bartholomew extends its deepest sympathy and prayers to Carole Wysocki and family and friends upon the death of her brother, (Fr.) Joseph Wysocki, on May 31, 2014. A Memorial Mass for Fr. Joe was celebrated at St. Bartholomew Church on June 13. Please keep the soul of the deceased and his family and friends in your prayers. Stand Strong in the Public Square: Vote Early or Absentee in Maryland Can’t make it to the polls for the June 24 primary election? Any registered Maryland voter may vote in person early or absentee by mail. Early voting for the primary election will be held from Thursday, June 12, through Thursday, June 19, while the deadline to request an absentee ballot via the internet is Friday, June 20. THE MOST HOLY TRINITY If you would like to sponsor flowers on the altar in memory of loved ones, living or deceased, please print your name, phone number, and the occasion or loved one you wish to remember on a purple Flower Contribution envelope, which you will find in the church vestibule. Minimum contribution for two vases on the main altar is $75. Please drop off your envelope in the collection basket, or call the parish office, 301-229-7933, and your request will be posted in the weekly bulletin. We can only honor one individual request per weekend, so please bear in mind that, sometimes, the date you require may already be taken. Also, for your information, we will not be able to accept requests for the sponsoring of flowers on specific liturgical dates. SACRED HEART CAMP - JUNE 23-27, 2014 We need everyone’s help! Virtus-certified adult volunteers are needed to help with the Sacred Heart Camp and its various field trips the week of June 2327. Please call Cindy Flores at 301-655-1774 or email her at [email protected] if you can help. Unopened games and/or puzzles for ages 6-13 are also requested. Please contact Cindy and she will arrange to pick up if need be, or you can always drop them off at the Rectory. Calling all youth of the parish! Age-specific volunteer counselor application forms for Sacred Heart Camp can be found at http://stbartholomew.org/service/missionwork. You will also need to download and fill out the Parent Guardian Consent Form and have that returned along with your application form by the specified dates. You will also find counselor application forms in the vestibule - please take the appropriate-aged form. Our BAKE SALE will be held at all masses next weekend, June 21/22. We hope you will be tempted by home-baked goods as well as baked goods donated from extraordinary bakeries in the area! The bake sale will be run by our student and parent volunteers and remember, your donations will help to send a child to camp. Please see the flyer in this week’s bulletin. Holy Cross Hospital is seeking trained Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion, who would be given additional hospital-specific training, in order to bring the Eucharist every day to each Catholic patient who wishes to receive. FOR YOUR INFORMATION Sacred Heart Church in Bushwood (23080 Maddox Road, Bushwood, MD) is hosting its annual June dinner on Sunday, June 22, Noon til ? The menu includes fried chicken, crab cakes, country ham, potato salad, coleslaw, green beans, beets, rolls, and tea or coffee. All you can eat, buffet style - adults $25, children 12 and under $6. Drive thru carry outs are $25. Country store, cake stand and raffle. Introductory classes on the Billings Ovulation Method of Natural Family Planning will be offered Tuesday, June 24 at 8 p.m. in the Library of Our Lady of Lourdes School, 7500 Pearl Street, Bethesda, MD 20814. Parking is available in the church lot across from the school. Enter via the handicap walk to the right of the Rectory entrance. There is no fee for this class but a one time donation of $ 25.00 is welcome. St. Bartholomew Parish has been informed by a private individual that 3 adjacent burial sites are available at Parklawn Cemetery in Rockville, MD - this individual’s family is now living away from the area and no longer needs them. Each site can accommodate double-depth burials, and all three sites are available for less than the normal Cemetery cost. Please contact the Rectory if you are interested. ST. Actualmente estamos en el receso de verano. Durante los meses de julio y agosto no se imparte la Liturgia de la Palabra de los Niños. La Liturgia de los Niños comenzará de nuevo el domingo 7 de septiembre, cuando comience el nuevo ciclo que se imparte de septiembre a mayo.
