Dr. Writer has her doctorate of
philosophy in clinical psychology
from Alliant International University
in San Diego. She currently works
full time for Aurora Behavioral
Health Care and part-time for Home
-Based Effective Living Professionals
as a contracted therapist. In her role as Community
Outreach Liaison at ABHC she does clinical outreach,
resource development and clinical education. With 15
years of clinical experience and over 10 years of working to develop resources in the community, Dr. Writer
has a unique perspective from both within the behavioral health system and outside of it and the ability to
truly help those who are struggling with pain and hopelessness as a result of their emotional, cognitive, and/or
physical symptoms. Her approach is multi-faceted, and
uses a combination of empirically based techniques
that are tailor made for each specific individual.
Joe Eberstein has 8 years’ experience working in the
prevention systems in both San Diego and Los Angeles
Counties. His role includes engaging community members, regional prevention providers and partner agencies to develop prevention strategies that address marijuana use among youth. Mr. Eberstein is a current
member of the Grossmont District Student Attendance
Review Board and San Diego Unified School District
Advisory Counsel.
Patrick Foley currently serves as the Community Outreach Director with McAlister Institute where he has
worked over 13 years. During this time he has managed
their North Central Teen Recovery Center in Clairemont
Mesa and served as a substance abuse counselor and
youth recovery group facilitator. Additionally, he oversees the 3 high school on site treatment centers recently initiated in the region. Patrick has been sober since
1999, is a member of SDUSD advisory council as well as
council member of Key Leadership Team. Patrick strives
to help teenagers reach success through recovery.
Jeanne McAlister, Founder and Chief
Executive Officer of McAlister Institute, is a pioneer in the field of recovery. As a recovering alcoholic herself,
Jeanne has used her experience to
build an agency that is founded upon
empathy and hope and dedicated to
serving those who suffer. She has
constantly advocated for responsive
and needed treatment services and developed programs which have adapted and grown to meet the
needs of San Diegans. In 2010, for instance, Jeanne was
the first Alcohol and Other Drug (AOD) specialist to be
named Mental Health Person of the Year for championing programs that address co-occurring disorders and
integrate substance abuse and mental health treatment. At the young age of 81, she continues to use over
40 years of experience to lead the agency to the top of
its field. In November, Jeanne celebrated 58 years
clean and sober.
