PARISH INFORMATION
BAPTISM: The Sacrament of Baptism is celebrated at 1:30 PM on the Second Sunday of the month in Spanish and the
Third Sunday of the month in English. Parents need to contact the rectory to set up an appointment to make arrangements
for the baptism of their child and register for the baptismal class which is held the First Tuesday of each month in Spanish
and the Second Tuesday of each month in English. Baptisms in Vietnamese can be arranged by contacting Fr. Vincent.
EL BAUTISMO: El sacramento del Bautismo es celebrado a la 1:30 PM cada Segundo domingo del mes en español y
cada tercer domingo del mes en Inglés. Los padres del niño/a deben pedir una cita con la rectoría para ponerse de acuerdo
con requisitos para el bautismo y también inscribirse para la charla pre bautismal que se lleva acabo cada primer martes
del mes en español y cada segundo martes del mes en ingles. Los bautismos en vietnamita pueden ser arreglados con el
Padre Vicente.

A WORD FROM OUR PASTOR
Dear Friends,
As you know Monday is Halloween. We anticipated
this day of “ghosts and goblins” with our Annual Family
Night on Friday. And of course, what a fun time we
had with lots of children and even a few adults
dressing in their favorite costumes. Halloween is a
time of celebration and superstition. It is thought to
have originated with the ancient Celtic festival of
Samhain, when people would light bonfires and wear
costumes to ward off roaming ghosts. In the eighth
century, Pope Gregory III designated November 1 as a
time to honor all saints and martyrs; the holiday, All
Saints’ Day, incorporated some of the traditions of
Samhain. The evening before was known as All
Hallows’ Eve and later Halloween. Over time,
Halloween evolved into a secular, community-based
event characterized by child-friendly activities such as
trick-or-treating.
I am all for Halloween, getting dressed up, trick-ortreating and all the fun that goes with it. But given the
state of our society today I don’t think it would hurt to
return to some of the ancient practices that gave the
holiday its original name of “All Hallows Eve.” For
example, on Monday our first graders will have a
prayer service in honor and memory of our Church’s
saints. The children will dress up as their favorite
saints and process into church as those saints. The
prayer service is important on many levels, but in a
society that puts movie stars and athletes on pedestals
I believe it is important for children to recognize the
real heroes in our world today. Our saints have made
this world a better place to live. They are the ones
who deserve to be placed on pedestals.
Just think of our own saints, St. Katharine Drexel
and St. John Neumann, for a moment. In their
lifetimes they did so much to improve the world for our
children. After she founded the Sisters of the Blessed
Sacrament in 1891, St. Katharine went on to establish
over 60 missions to help poor and neglected children,
especially African American and Native American
children. St. John Neumann, our fourth bishop, is
responsible for developing the parochial school system
of Philadelphia that has educated millions of children
since 1850. We can all agree that these two saints
made a great difference in our city.
St. Teresa of Calcutta is our most recently canonized
saint. After she founded the Missionaries of Charity
and was working with the poor in Calcutta, a reporter
approached her and asked: “Mother Teresa, there are
some people who say that you are a living saint. What
do have to say about that?” And Mother Teresa
simply said, “Aren’t we all called to be saints?” And so
we are…All called to be saints. I pray that this All
Hallows Eve (aka Halloween) serves as a reminder to
each of us to be who God has called us to be… a
saint.

Bautismo
Niños
de
los
Si quiere bautizar a un
niño, hay que llamar a la
rectoría al 215-7432600 para hacer una cita
con un sacerdote para
arreglar los detalles del
bautismo. No se puede ir a la clase pre-bautismal
sin haberse reunido con el sacerdote primero.
También, para bautizar en los Santos Inocentes
hay que estar registrado aquí. Se puede hacer
una cita para registrarse, o se puede registrar
cuando venga para hablar del bautismo.
Finalmente, cuando está escogiendo a sus
padrinos, tenga en cuenta que la responsabilidad
principal de un padrino es dar buen ejemplo al
ahijado de lo que es vivir bien la fe católica. Por
eso, para ser padrino, hay que haber recibido
todos los sacramentos (bautismo, confirmación,
comunión), estar registrado y participando en la
iglesia (en esta parroquia u otra), y si es casado,
ser casado por la Iglesia.

trì được? Nhưng Chúa dung thứ hết mọi loài: vì chúng thuộc
về Chúa. Lạy Chúa, Chúa yêu thương các linh hồn.
Ôi lạy Chúa, thần trí của Chúa tốt lành và hiền hậu đối với
mọi loài là dường nào! Vì thế, lạy Chúa, Chúa từ từ sửa phạt
những kẻ lầm lạc, khuyên răn và dạy bảo những kẻ phạm
lỗi, để họ từ bỏ tội ác mà tin theo Chúa. Đó là lời Chúa.

Đáp:
Lạy Chúa, lạy Thiên Chúa, con sẽ chúc tụng danh
Chúa tới muôn đời (x. c. 1).
2) Chúa nhân ái và từ bi, chậm bất bình và giàu ân
sủng. Chúa hảo tâm với hết mọi loài, và từ bi với mọi
công cuộc của Chúa. - Đáp.
3) Lạy Chúa, mọi công cuộc của Chúa hãy ca ngợi
Chúa, và các thánh nhân của Ngài hãy chúc tụng Ngài.

4) Chúa trung thành trong mọi lời Ngài phán, và
thánh thiện trong mọi việc Ngài làm. Chúa nâng đỡ
hết thảy những ai sa ngã, và cho mọi kẻ khòm lưng
đứng thẳng lên.

Anh em thân mến, chúng tôi hằng cầu nguyện cho
anh em: Thiên Chúa chúng ta đoái thương làm cho
anh em nên xứng đáng ơn Chúa kêu gọi anh em, và
xin Người dùng quyền phép mà kiện toàn những ý
định ngay lành do lòng tốt của anh em và công việc
của lòng tin anh em, để danh Đức Giêsu Kitô, Chúa
chúng ta, được vinh hiển trong anh em, và anh em
được vinh hiển trong Người, do ân sủng của Thiên
Chúa, Chúa chúng ta, và của Chúa Giêsu Kitô.
Anh em thân mến, nhân về ngày trở lại của Đức Giêsu
Kitô, Chúa chúng ta, và về sự chúng ta tập họp bên
cạnh Người, chúng tôi nài xin anh em chớ vội để mình
bị giao động tinh thần, và đừng hoảng sợ bởi có ai nói
tiên tri, hoặc bởi lời rao giảng hay bởi thư từ nào được
coi như do chúng tôi gởi đến, mà nói như thể ngày
Chúa gần đến. Đó là lời Chúa.
