The divisions we experience within our country are affecting every sector of society and, as members of a Church called to bring about reconciliation, to be a healing agent for wounded individuals or groups, we know that in some way we must fulfil our calling in the here and now. But how? Mass Intentions for the Week of November 20-26, 2016 Sunday, 10:00 am: People of the Parish Monday, 7:30 am: Irene Borodycia: Passionist Mission Office Tuesday, 7:30 am: Dorothy Bernal: (req. Vernon Martin) Wednesday, 7:00 PM: Mass of Thanksgiving: Thursday and Friday—No Morning Mass Wednesday, 7:30 am & Saturday, 9:00 am: Communion Service Last week I had mentioned that I would discuss this with the members of our Pastoral Council which met this past Tuesday evening. Realistically, our parish, no matter how you look at it, is made up of minorities; overwhelmingly black and brown adults and children. Both groups are impacted by the aftermath of the election. In particular, the meanspiritedness that has been unleashed across the country by the often volatile rhetoric of the campaign. We had a good sharing of feelings and ideas about what may be lurking “out there.” There was particular concern about our children and young people and about how they are or aren’t coping with it. Racism and all the other poisonous serpents it spawns is evident everywhere, and we want to learn about how it is affecting the lives of parishioners, especially the young, so that we can name the evil and counter it. Following the advice of our Pastoral Council, I am calling you to another Community Meeting following the 10:00 o’clock Mass on Sunday, December 4th—the Second Sunday of Advent. Several qualified parishioners will facilitate the meeting. The Agenda is being prepared and we will announce it to you in advance. Meanwhile, let us all pray over and reflect on the “signs of the times,” trusting in the guidance of the Holy Spirit and the presence of the One whose Kingdom is not of this world to bolster our faith.
