THE DAYS ARE COMING
LLEGARÁN LOS DÍAS
Separation, isolation, and hostility are terrible things. We are, sadly, too familiar with
all of them in our modern life, whether we
look at world events or events in our own
neighborhoods and families. All three readings today refer to these same sad human
conditions.
The prophet Jeremiah describes world
conditions as if the people of his time were
sheep who had been scattered by poor leadership and
corrupt shepherds. But “the days are coming,” he assures us (Jeremiah 23:5), when a new shepherd, a just
king, will come. We meet that king in the second reading and the Gospel. Paul reminds us in the Letter to the
Ephesians that all divisions can now cease in Christ Jesus, who has brought us together through his blood. In
Mark’s Gospel we see Jesus himself, looking with pity on
those searching for him as if they were sheep without a

Separación, aislamiento y hostilidad son cosas terribles. Estamos, por desgracia, demasiado familiarizados con todo ello en nuestra
vida actual, si nos fijamos en los acontecimientos mundiales o los que ocurren en
nuestros propios vecindarios y familias. Las
tres lecturas de hoy se refieren a estas mismas y tristes condiciones humanas.
El profeta Jeremías describe las condiciones del
mundo, como si la gente de su tiempo fuera la oveja
que se había dispersado por falta de guía y pastores corruptos. Sin embargo “viene un tiempo”, nos asegura
(Jeremías 23:5), cuando surgirá un nuevo pastor, un rey
justo. Nos encontramos con ese rey en la segunda lectura y el Evangelio. Pablo nos recuerda en la Carta a los
Efesios que todas las divisiones actuales pueden cesar
en Cristo Jesús que nos ha reunido mediante su sangre.
En el Evangelio de Marcos vemos a Jesús mismo,
mirando con lástima quienes lo buscaban como si fueran

Around the Parish…
St. Cyril parishioners bag lunches
For over 20 years our parish has been
making lunches once a month for Casa
Maria. On the 3rd Sunday of every
month, a diverse group of volunteers
(young and old, individuals and family
teams) come together to put together
250 bag lunches.
This past school year, it was expanded to twice a month.
Members of our Religious Education Community have joined
the effort to “feed the hungry”. Volunteers meet on the second Sundays of each month during the school year to make
250 bag lunches.
Funding for this outreach ministry comes from donations
designated for the Share-a-Lunch option on the Second Sunday Sharing envelopes. This weekend we are instituting an
annual special Sunday collection for this ministry to help keep
up with the costs associated with it. There is no envelope in
this year’s packets. If you wish your donation to be recorded
for tax purposes, be sure to either use a check or put your
donation in a plain envelope with your name and address
clearly printed on it.
Youth Ministry Update
Young people not attending a Catholic school, seeking Confirmation must complete a year of Religious Formation before
attending immediate Sacramental preparation. Students receiving Confirmation are of High School age. For more information contact Lisa at

Los parroquianos de San Cirilo
comparten un almuerzo
Por más de 20 años, nuestra parroquia ha venido haciendo almuerzos una vez al mes, para ayudar a Casa María. El tercer
domingo de cada mes, un variado grupo de voluntarios
(jóvenes, viejos, una sola persona y grupos de familias) se
reúnen para preparar 250 bolsas de almuerzos.
El pasado ciclo escolar, este se amplió a dos veces al mes.
Los miembros de la Comunidad de Educación Religiosa, se han
unido al esfuerzo de “alimentar al hambriento”. Los voluntarios
se reúnen en uno de los otros domingos a preparar 250 bolsas
de almuerzos.
La financiación para este ministerio adicional proviene de los
donativos designados para la opción de [Comparte-unAlmuerzo] en los sobres de Second Sunday Sharing [Segundo
Domingo de Compartir]. Este fin de semana empezamos una
colecta dominical especial anual para este ministerio, con el fin
de ayudar a sostener el costo de este proyecto. Para esto no
va un sobre en el paquete de este año. Si usted desea que su
donativo se registre para deducción de impuestos, favor de
asegurarse de hacerlo en un cheque o ponerlo en un sobre

To have a baby baptized at St. Cyril Parish
In our parish, the baptism of an infant or young child
(up to the age of 7 years old) is celebrated monthly
(except during Advent & Lent). The sacrament is celebrated in English on a designated Sunday at 3:00 PM
or in Spanish on a designated Saturday at 12:00 PM.
Periodically during the Liturgical Year, baptisms may
be celebrated at a Sunday Mass.
Prior to the celebration, parents are required to attend a Baptism Preparation Series which is only offered 5
times each year and not just prior to a celebration of baptism.
Thus, parents need to prepare ahead of time, making plans to
attend the preparation sessions in a timely manner (even during the pregnancy). The preparation series are held on Sundays from 9:15 to 10:45 AM. The following are the dates for
these preparation sessions this fall.
August - No Sessions
September 9th & 16th
October- No Sessions
November 4th & 11th
December - No Sessions

Bautizo de Infantes en la Parroquia
de San Cirilo de Alejandria
En nuestra parroquia, el bautizo de un bebé o de un niño
(hasta de 7 años de edad), se celebra mensualmente
(con excepción de las épocas de Adviento y Cuaresma).
El sacramento se celebra en español en un sábado determinado a las 12:00 PM o en inglés en un domingo determinado a las 3:00 PM. En ocasiones, durante el año litúrgico, los bautizos se pueden celebrar durante la misa del
domingo.
Antes de dicha celebración, se requiere que los padres asistan a una Serie de reuniones de Preparación para el Bautizo
que se ofrecen 5 veces al año. Por lo tanto, los padres necesitan prepararse con anticipación, planeando asistir a tiempo a
las sesiones de preparación (aún durante el embarazo). Las
series de preparación se efectúan los martes de 6:00 a 8:00
PM. En este otoño, las sesiones de preparación serán en las
siguientes fechas:
Agosto - no pláticas
4 & 11 de septiembre
Octubre - no pláticas
6 & 13 de noviembre
Diciembre - no pláticas

Adult Confirmation Classes this Fall
This year, Bishop Kicanas is scheduled to celebrate Confirmation in our parish on Wednesday, November 28th. In
preparation for this, we will be offering a preparation series in English for adult Catholics (18 years or older) who
were baptized and received First Communion but have not
been confirmed. If you haven’t been confirmed, and would
like to celebrate this sacrament, please let Fr. Glenn know
of your interest (795-1633, Ext. 111 or [email protected]).
Details will be available in a few weeks.
Sacrament Preparations for Adults
This year our parish will offer a series of classes for Spanish
speaking adults (18 years or older) who have been baptized as
Catholics but have not celebrated one or more of the following
sacraments: First Penance, Confirmation and First Communion.
The preparation series will begin this fall and run through
the spring of 2013.
In conjunction with this series, we will also be offering
Spanish speaking couples who are married civilly but not in the
Church, the opportunity to prepare to celebrate the Sacrament
of Matrimony. If one or both of the married couple needs to
celebrate one of the above sacraments in preparation for having their marriage blessed, they should plan on participating in
the above series. More information about the series and how to
register will be in future bulletins, or you can call Deacon Mario
Aguirre at the Parish.

de Confirmación para Adultos
Este año, el Obispo Kicanas celebrará la Confirmación
en nuestra parroquia el miércoles, 28 de noviembre.
Antes de esto, ofreceremos una serie de preparación
en Inglés para adultos católicos (18 años o mayores)
que fueron bautizados y recibieron Primera Comunión
pero no han sido confirmados. Si usted no está confirmado, y desea celebrar este sacramento, díganselo por

Preparación Sacramental para Adultos
Este año nuestra parroquia ofrecerá una serie de clases para
adultos hispanoparlantes (de 18 en adelante) quienes han
sido bautizados como católicos, pero les falta uno o más de
los siguientes sacramentos: primera reconciliación; comfirmación; primera comunión. Las clases comenzarán este octoño
y terminarán a fines de la primavera de 2013.
Junto con esta serie de clases ofreceremos también, a parejas
hispanoparlantes quienes están casados por lo civil mas no
por la iglesia, la oportunidad para preparar para celebrar el
sacramento de matrimonio. Si a uno o a ambos de la pareja
les falta el celebrar uno de los sacramentos mencionados arriba, deben hacer planes de asistir las clases de preparación
sacramental, para que se pueda bendecir el matrimonio. Más
informaciones aparecerán en los boletines domingueros, o

undertaken is the Life Book Project. Through this project, volunteers help foster children make sense of their journey in life
by developing a Life Book for them. A Life Book is an album
that tells the story of a child’s life. It is a chronological account, told in words and pictures that starts with the child’s
birth and follows their experiences up to the present time, all
told in a sensitive, accurate and truthful way. Volunteers work
to gather the stories, photos and other mementos through
which they can create a narrative detailing the child’s life. (It
is often equated with creating a scrapbook.)
If you would be interested in becoming a volunteer for this
project, or would like more information as you consider it,
