Dear Parishioners,
As we begin this new year, 2013, I want to give thanks to God for all the wonderful "gifts" we have in
our diverse parish community. The Christmas celebrations reminded me of the gift of beauty and
community that is the heart of our liturgical life. Many people commented to me how beautiful the
church looked and how consoling the liturgies were during the weeks of Advent and Christmas,
especially given the heart-breaking events right before Christmas.
I'm sure I don't have to remind you that the Christmas season continues today and ends with the
celebration of the Baptism of the Lord, next Sunday, January 13th. This weekend we celebrate "Little
Christmas", the feast of the "Epiphany" in which God's incarnate love is made manifest in the infant
Jesus. It is a day of gift-giving for our Latino brothers and sisters and should remind us of the many gifts
we give and receive during this Christmas time, especially those of family and friends.
I'm not sure whether the reason for the light attendance at Mass this past Sunday was due to the snow or
people being out of town, but I was grateful that the large percentage of our income comes through the
pledge program. Before we started the pledge, I would worry about how we would make up for the loss
of income on a snowy weekend. I still worry, but not to the same extent :-) So let me thank you again if
you have made a pledge for 2013. If you haven't had the time to pledge yet, we'll be grateful to receive it
at your convenience.
Words cannot express my gratitude for all the ways in which you make St Ignatius such a vibrant, lifegiving parish community. Please know that I'll be praying for you throughout this coming year. As we
sing together the words of the song, “We Three Kings”, let us pray that we may be guided to come to
worship and adore the One who reveals the beauty, the tenderness and vulnerability of our God.
"O Star of Wonder, Star of Night, Star with Royal Beauty Bright, Westward Leading Still Proceeding,
Guide Us to Your Perfect Light".
In God’s Incarnate Love,
Fr Bob

coming of age in Lowell, Massachusetts. The filmmaker, Julie Mallozzi, will introduce the film. Don’t miss it! If

BOOK BISCUSSION
On January 13th at 11:15 in the Parish Offices, there will be a discussion of the book Bright Evening Star by
Madeleine L'Engle. Described as a personal reflection of the mystery and majesty of the Incarnation of Jesus
Christ, Bright Evening Star provides a glimpse into the life stories of this prolific author and her encounters with
God. L'Engle invites us on a spiritual adventure that leads to hope, joy, and a closer relationship with Jesus.
According to Madeleine L'Engle, Christmas should be a time of awed silence. If you're looking for a unique and
Christ-centered Christmas meditation, Bright Evening Star will be a rich and delightful discovery -- year round. All
are welcome to participate in this discussion.

Del Escritorio del Padre Bob
Queridos Parroquianos,
Tantas personas me
Me
merecen.
En el amor de Jesús.
Padre Bob
¡Feliz Año Nuevo!
