ACCESS Roaring Fork “SECONDSHIFT” Rifle Middle School (RMS) After-School Program SecondShift is an after-school program that provides a safe and positive setting in which middle school students may learn and grow. The classes offered are educational, supportive and fun. Fall Session: October 6th – December 17th, 2014 ** There will be no class held during the week of Thanksgiving Break, Nov 24th-28th (Or whenever Rifle Middle School is closed)** Classes are held on Mondays, Tuesdays & Wednesdays at Rifle Middle School (Unless otherwise noted in the class description) SecondShift highlights: Students receive a snack each day before classes start Classes run from 4:10 - 5:40 (Unless otherwise noted) Cost is $20 per class for the 10-week session (Unless otherwise noted) Pay by cash, check (payable to ACCESS Roaring Fork), or credit card (online only) To register: 1. Offered three times per week. Class is 1 hour. Taught by Mr. Anderson and Ms. Van Devender. CRAZY FOR CURSIVE Do you have trouble reading letters and cards from your grandparents? Crazy for Cursive is just the right place for you to come if you have always wanted to learn to read and write in cursive. Refine your new abilities using small motor skills. Offered 1 time per week. Class is 1 hour. Class limited to 12 students. Taught by Ms. Snead. COMPUTER MATH GAMES Students will use cool math games to enrich their math skills. Class is 1 time per week. Class is 1.5 hours. Limited to 10 students. Taught by Ms. Garcia. ROCKIN’ PAPERS AND SCISSORS Share ideas of how to use texture, color and composition while making personalized albums for your special memories. Gain rock solid math skills with measuring techniques and become confident with the use of specialized scissors. Offered 1 time per week. Class is 1 hour. Taught by Ms. Huffman. Class limited to 12 students. BEGINNING SEWING Learn the joy of sewing. You will learn how to operate a sewing machine to make pillows, draw string bags and more! Offered 1 time per week. LEGO BUILDING Students will build Lego creations using creativity and problem solving skills. We will have challenges to create specific items, as well as time to create one of a kind masterpieces. Class limit is 15 students. Offered 1 time per week. Class is 1.5 hours. Taught by Ms. Ottobre and Mr. Anderson. iMOVIE Kids will use iMovie and iStopMotion to create their own short movies! Offered 1 time per week. Class is 1.5 hours. Class limit is 16 students. Taught by Mr. Snead. ART CLUB Explore your creative mind! Have fun exploring new techniques and various materials to create unique artwork. We will be repurposing everyday items to fabricate original gifts and interesting art. Class is 1 time per week. Class is 1.5 hours. Taught by Ms. Grimm. KNITTING Students will have fun learning how to knit, starting with beginner projects and the sky is the limit from there. All skill levels welcome. PAPER CRAFTING Learn easy and inexpensive paper crafts that can be made with a minimum of supplies and can also be used for gift-giving! We will learn an introduction to some unique paper crafting tools to create amazing projects! Class is 1 time per week. Class is 1 hour. Taught by Ms. Nipper. OUTDOOR SURVIVAL Learn the essential emergency survival skills for the outdoors. We’ll discuss theory and then analyze diagrams and identifying examples found in many popular outdoor survival TV shows. Offered 1 time per week. Class is 1.5 hours. Class limit is 25 students. Taught by Mr. Pascoe. COOKING Every week you learn to prepare tasty recipes that you can make at home. We will make some breakfast recipes, recipes from different countries such as Italy, Mexico, and Asian countries. Class is $30 for supplies. Offered 1 time per week. Class is 1.5 hours. Class limit is 10 students. Taught by Margaret Cooke. YOGA Come and join us for an adventure on the Yoga Mat. We will test our balance, strength and sense of adventure as we learn rd lots of fun and challenging yoga poses. Class limit is 15 students. Class is held at Mistyoga Studio at 103 East 3 St. Students will walk to the studio as a group with a staff member. Please pick up your student at the studio by 5:15 p.m. Offered 1 time per week. Class is 1 hour. Taught by Misty Frontella. FUN FIT! Students will practice using an obstacle course and circuit weight/cardio training. This is a fun workout that will keep students attention! ZUMBA Zumba classes feature kid-friendly routines based on original Zumba choreography. We break down the steps, add games, activities and cultural exploration elements into the class structure.
