PASTOR’S COLUMN
Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
I saw this reflection in Exploring the Sunday Readings published by Twenty-third
Publications and wanted to share it with you.
KNOW WHOSE YOU ARE
“You shall worship the Lord, your God and him alone shall you serve.” Luke
4:1-13
Lent began a few days ago with a smudge of ashes and the reminder that time is precious.
At once we’re plunged into the company of the devil – or, at least, Jesus is.
This metaphysical rumble in the desert between heaven and hell’s favorite sons is a
dramatic way to launch a liturgical season.
But it makes the point: time is short, so choose sides and take a stand.
What will you do with the next forty days?
Don’t forget our wise traditions of self-denial, prayer, and generous giving.
Choose one of each, not one out of three.

Say no to something and maintain the discipline even if you falter once or twice.

Increase your attention to prayer, try a new prayer form, or go on a guided
retreat.

Give something away that someone else really needs and that you can feel the
departure of: time, money, forgiveness.
Do these things in the name of the Lord, your God. Blessings on a fruitful and meaningful Lent!
Determine your Lenten practices.
Write them down or share them with your family or prayer group.
First Sunday of Lent
Page 3
From the Servant’s Heart
LENT: "It's ALSO the most wonderful time of the year!"
Thank you
We would like to extend our
deep appreciation and gratitude to
all of you dear people for the lovely
Mass and sympathy cards, floral
arrangements, plants, calls and visits
because of the passing of our dear
sister, Terry Lambros.
The outpouring of the love you displayed
for Terry was absolutely overwhelming.
I believe that Christmas is not only "the most wonderful time
of the year." Lent is as well for so many reasons. One major
reason is: It reminds us of the passion and death of our Lord
especially on Good Friday. The "Friday that changed the world."
In the same way, we will never achieve "change" or
"transformation" in our lives without the "penitential and purifying spirit" of Lent.
Allow me to share with you my reflection about LENT.

L is Listen. Lent is a wonderful season to slow down on
many things in order for us to better hear the gentle voice
of our Lord. What about some quiet time here and there?
Like cutting down on radio (Except iHeart Radio!) It would
be also great to listen more and to talk less. After all, the
words "LISTEN" and "SILENT" are similar, aren't they?
"Speak, Lord. Your servant is listening." (1 Samuel 3:10)

E is Extra Mile. Let's add more minutes to our prayer life.
We have a few interesting and enriching Lenten activities
we could do together this season of prayer and penance
like the afternoon weekday Masses at 6 pm, the Saturday
8:15 am Mass and the Stations of the Cross every Friday at
12:10 pm and 7 pm.
Thank you and thank God. Bless you all.
Our Love,
Lou Ugliano and the Lambros brothers
What about an extra mile of Holy Rosary and joining us in
Morning Prayer on weekdays at 7:50 am? Or squeeze into
your hectic schedule some minutes of reading Sacred
Scripture. Meditate on the Passion Gospels to remind yourself of His great love for you.
Mass
1st & 2nd graders from
our school and
Religious Education
program will
host our Mass
Saturday,
February 20 at 5:00pm.
What about an extra mile for someone? An extra mile of
service, of patience, of giving, of presence or what have
you. It's all up to you. It doesn't need to be spectacular.
Small things are the big things. And "small things done with
great love" which St. Therese teaches us in her "Little
Way." What matters is we do something this season that
will help us enter into the spirit of penance this Lent.

N is No. What do you love to do? What "comfort food" is
part of your daily diet? What expressions do you use as a
habit especially when someone cuts you off on the freeway!
This is a wonderful time to "detox" ourselves. All it takes is
that powerful word composed of two letters: NO. "No pain,
no gain." Saying "no" is saying "yes" to Jesus. We need His
divine help though because we can only say "no" by the
grace of God.

Finally, T is Transformation. Whether we like it or not, I
believe that if we "Listen", if we go the "Extra Mile", and
when we say "No", something is going to happen in our
lives for the better not only this Lent but even after Lent.
Mark my word.
PAPAL INTENTIONS FOR FEBRUARY
General Intention: that we take good care
of creation - a gift freely given - cultivating and protecting it for future generations.
Missionary Intention: that opportunities
may increase for dialogue and encounter
between the Christian faith and the peoples of Asia.

you cannot cross."

As parents, educators and volunteers, we
want children to know that we are not only authority figures in their lives, but also people they
can trust. To foster authentic trust with children,
it is important that they know that you understand them. One of the simplest ways to do this
is by repeating back what children are telling
you. When you do this, you are affirming to the
child that they are heard and understood.

HOLY HUMOR
A friend was in front of me coming out of
church one day and the priest was standing at
the door as he always is to shake hands.
He grabbed my friend by the hand and pulled
him aside. The priest said to him, “You need to
join the Army of the Lord!”
My friend replied, “I’m already in the Army of
the Lord, Pastor.”
The priest questioned, “How
come I don’t see you except at
Christmas and Easter?”

MINISTERIO HISPANO

escuchado y comprendido.
