What a wonderful thought, and what a wonderful image to keep in front of us as we travel down life's road. For if the path is revealed in the treading, it's good to know that God is with us--and all around us--every step of the way . But Paul knows that this divine presence is not timid. Instead, God calls out to us, and Paul prays that we, along with the Thessalonians, might be made worthy of that call. And who knows more about God's call than Zacchaeus, the tax collector? Jesus called him out of a tree, for goodness' sake. Or perhaps more correctly, as we reflect upon the end of today's Gospel reading, for heaven's sake. Bishop Fernando Isern will celebrate “All Souls Day’ mass at Our Lady Queen of Heaven Cemetery on Wednesday, November 2nd, 2016 at 10:00am. This evaluation starts, of course, with where they stand on violence against human beings, because if public servants cannot tell the difference between serving the public and killing the public, they do not belong in public office. What if a candidate supported terrorism? Would a Godfearing Catholic say, “Well, I disagree with you on terrorism, but what’s your health care plan? Maybe we can work together on some social programs. After all, terrorism is not the only issue.” 1st Prize: $500 3rd Prize: $150 2nd Prize: $250 4th Prize: $100 Drawing: Sunday, December 18, 2016 $5.00 each Need not be present to win The parallel, of course, is abortion. “Typically, the skull is brought out in fragments rather than as a unified piece” (Abortionist Martin Haskell, in 1999 Court testimony in Wisconsin, regarding legal abortion). How can anyone make the case that this skull-cracking, which is still legal, is less violent than terrorism---particularly as this occurs 3,500 times every day in the U.S? How can anyone make the case that we can tolerate it while we work with the candidate on “social” programs? The heart of what is “social” is that it respects the other person –--- and that means not cracking their skull. We fight terrorism, and rightly so. But when we allow abortion and vote for pro-abortion politicians at the same time, the evil we fight becomes merely a reflection of the evil we do. Page 5 Adult Sacramental Preparation Our parish extends an invitation to anyone wishing to inquire about the Catholic faith. These sessions start with the 9:00 a.m. mass on Sundays, and continue with a meeting from 10:00 a.m. to 11:15 a.m. Please stop by the Parish Office to register. Have you thought you might like to become Catholic, or do you know someone who is thinking about it? Are you baptized and interested in receiving the sacraments of Holy Eucharist (First Communion) and Confirmation or in learning more about the Catholic faith? Schedule All Saints Day (Holy Day of Obligation) Tuesday, November 1, 2016 8:00 am: Daily Mass 7:00 pm: Bilingual Mass: 8:30 pm: Spanish Mass All Souls Day Wednesday, November 2, 2016 8:00 am: Daily Mass 7:00 pm: Trilingual Come and see, ask questions and learn. These sessions are for adults who want to become Catholic and also for Catholic adults who would like to prepare for the Sacraments of Confirmation and Holy Eucharist. The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) provides a process for people who are searching; people who seek the living God and enter the way of faith. The reasons people are attracted to the Catholic Church are as varied as the individual persons. Some have never been baptized and have little or no acquaintance with the Church. Others are Christians baptized in other faiths. Some are Catholics who have never been instructed to share their religion. Whatever the reason, everyone is invited to take this opportunity to find out more about the Catholic beliefs and practices. It is a time of unhurried reflection and discovery. It promises to be a time of great joy as people begin on a Journey of Faith that will last into eternity. RELIGIOUS EDUCATION ANNOUNCEMENTS Due to the Mass of the Commemoration of All Souls (7:00 p.m.), we will not have a monthly parents meeting in November. Parent/child workshop schedule. Venga a ver, pregunte y aprenda.
