Dear parishioners,
As we continue to celebrate the Easter on this fourth Sunday Easter, we also celebrate
Good Shepherd Sunday. It was also designated by Pope Paul VI to be World Day of
Prayer for Vocations back in 1963. And because of where Easter fell this year, it is also
Mother's Day! We certainly have a lot to celebrate!
With all of these observances and celebrations, the image and theme of Jesus as the Good
Shepherd is most appropriate. Jesus indeed cares for each of us as a shepherd cares for
his flock. He loves us, he guides us, he nourishes us, and he protects us! We know his
voice and he hears us always when we call. What a beautiful image we have of our Lord
from the 23rd Psalm: "The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want."
This same image of a shepherd who watches over his flock is paralleled by our priests,
those who give their lives for their flock--the people and congregations they serve. It is
through them that we have the Eucharist and our faith. We thank them and we pray for
them in a special way this weekend! We also are grateful to God for all of our mothers,
who have nurtured and cared for and raised us! May The Lord bless all mothers,
grandmothers, and Godmothers!
May we experience in our daily lives the love and care of the Good Shepherd and may we
have the courage to mirror that love in all we do. Have a blessed week!
Sincerely Yours in Christ,
Very Rev. Thomas Barrett
Rector

DIOCESE OF PALM BEACH – office of the bishop
Dear Sisters and Brothers in Christ:
In this ever changing, fast paced atmosphere of instant world-wide communication, the Church must
be prepared to keep up with the demands of modern technology as well as the new forms of communication.
Through various forms of communication the Church attempts to bring the message of the Gospel to a
world that at times seems disconnected from the reality of faith, hope and love.
On the weekend of May 17 and 18 a special collection for the Catholic Communication Campaign
(CCC) and the Catholic University of America will be taken in our parishes. Half of the proceeds from the
CCC collection remain within the Diocese to support our local communication efforts, like the television
Mass, the Florida Catholic newspaper, our diocesan website and electronic newsletters. On a national level,
the CCC supports the development and production of a wide range of media initiatives carried out by the
United States Conference of Catholic Bishops.
The Catholic University of America, under the direction of the United States Bishops and chartered by
the Vatican, communicates the faith through the education of priests, religious and laity, who serve both the
Church and society. Your support helps countless numbers of students who will experience a Catholic education grounded in the Catholic tradition.
Together we are called to proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ, to communicate His message to all
generations. Thank you for taking part in the Catholic Communication Campaign.
With gratitude and every prayerful wish, I am
Sincerely yours in Christ,
