The second Sunday of each month, from December through April, will be Joy of the Gospel Sunday. You can purchase copies of The Joy of the Gospel from http://www.usccb.org or from Amazon. You can also download a free copy from the Vatican website, http://w2.vatican.va/content/francesco/en/apost_exhortations/documents/papafrancesco_esortazione-ap_20131124_evangelii-gaudium.html. We also have created a page on Facebook where you can add comments about the document as we read it together. Here is the link: https://www.facebook.com/StIggysBC. To help you pray and reflect with The Joy of the Gospel, we will be providing discussion questions in the bulletin over the next five months. This week, we invite you to begin your reading with these questions: In December we will be reading the Introduction and Chapter 1. There will be a variety of opportunities for you to share your thoughts with other parishioners. These will be outlined in the coming weeks. 1. How often do I experience the joy of the Gospel? How can a desire to protect my personal interests, concerns, and possessions inhibit this joy? 2. What is my most recent encounter with God’s love? How does it give meaning to my life? 3. Pope Francis says the task of evangelization is “the source of authentic personal fulfillment.” Is that how you view evangelization? Why or why not? 4. Can you recall a time when you accomplished something wonderful, only to realize that God was at work and he enabled your success? How often do you tackle a difficult task, knowing that God will be at your side to help you succeed? 5. How can I help my parish reach out to those who have not found faith in Jesus? Can I recount any recent success in bringing someone outside the faith to St. Ignatius? 1. Dear Parishioners, I'm sure by now you have heard of the parish initiative, One Book One Parish, which invites all of to read and en-joy together Pope Francis' Joy of the Gospel. It's a very rich document, but I want to quote one section in particular. Goodness always tends to spread. Every authentic experience of truth and goodness seeks by its very nature to grow within us, and any person who has experienced a profound liberation becomes more sensitive to the needs of others. As it expands, goodness takes root and develops. If we wish to lead a dignified and fulfilling life, we have to reach out to others and seek their good. In this regard, several sayings of Saint Paul will not surprise us: "The love of Christ urges us on." I find these words of Pope Francis very "appealing" as we "urge" you to support our Annual Appeal. The goodness of our parishioners and the Spirit's work is so evident in our liturgies, our faith formation, spiritual life and outreach. The reality, of course, is that your "goodness" is what makes all of this possible. Without your willingness to support your parish with your presence, your participation in parish programs and your financial support, we would simply not be able to do all that we do. Each year at this time, we ask you to consider how you are able to financially support the ministries of St. Ignatius throughout the coming year through The AMDG Parish Support Program. This program enhances our ability to project our income throughout the year and not have to worry about those Sundays and summers when many people are away from the parish due to the vagaries of weather, travel, vacations, etc. As our parish continues to grow, so also do our expenses. If you are already enrolled in the Annual Parish Support Program, might I ask you to consider an increase of your donation this year? Our goal is to meet our operating expenses through this parish support program. It also enables us to dedicate income to necessary capital projects. We have just completed a major renovation project in the parish offices that provides more space for meetings and faith formation programs. We also were able to make that level handicapped accessible as well as put in a new heating system. If you are a new parishioner or have never signed on to the program, I would be more than grateful if you would join the more than 500 families currently participating in the program and show your support for this remarkable parish. We are so grateful for the stewardship of these parishioners who contribute more than 70% of our operating income. If you are already a participant, your annual donation will be renewed as is, unless you desire to change it or you need to change your information. For those of you who have not yet signed on, you can check out the brochure on the parish website to find out more about the program. HTTP://BC.EDU/STIGNATIUS ! Pledge cards are available at the entrances of the church or call the parish office to receive one. 617-5526102. Fr. Bob OUTREACH MINISTRIES SHATTUCK HOLIDAY MEAL: THIS IS THE LAST WEEKEND for sign-ups for the December 6th Meal. Materials are on the Outreach table.
