Engaging Migrant Men Messaging
Recommendations on using ‘Engaging Migrant Men’ messaging resources
These messaging videos and fotonovelas were created to be used by health outreach workers,
community representatives, domestic violence victims services organizations, and other
outreach workers aiming to reduce sexual and intimate partner violence in their communities.
It is recommended to use this guide for these resources along with training on how to address
the specific needs of your audience.

These resources are meant to be used in oneon-one and small group discussions. Before
you begin your discussion on the messaging
resources there are a few key components to
consider to help generate discussion.
The dialogue between the participants and
the facilitator is critical to the success of these
resources. There are a few ways to help
facilitate those discussions.
Establish rules
You want to establish a small set of rules if
you are discussing these messaging resources
with a group of men. This helps facilitate the
discussion and generally allows for each men
to contribute.
Create a comfortable environment
Establishing rules in assists with creating a
comfortable environment. Aside from that,
you want to make sure that the men are
welcome in whatever environment these
discussions are taking place. They should be
able to watch the videos comfortably, and
each participant should be within each others
view for discussion.
Conversation should be open
Men should be allowed to communicate freely
during these discussions. The purpose of
these discussions is for the men to learn from
each other and be able to discuss issues that
face them, specifically. The facilitator should
facilitate discussion as well as contribute to
the discussion by offering his thoughts on
ideas being presented.
Follow the Discussion Guide closely
It is important to follow the discussion
questions provided by Migrant Clinicians
Network as points for discussion with
the men. If the men go off topic, it is the
facilitators job to regroup the men and
guide them in the right direction. There are
three messages that were created and each
message has a unique set of questions. They
are as follows:

Migrant Clinicians Network would love to hear
feedback from these discussions. The intent
of this project is to see these messages shared
with the Latino migrant male community
at large. There is an evaluation form for
participating organizations that we ask each
organization to fill out and return to MCN.
Offer Feedback
It is important to ask the men about their
time spent and the discussion they had.
Although there are no formal evaluation
forms for participants, anecdotal reports
from the participants and the facilitator are
very insightful to how to continue this very

Share the resources
The resources were created for the men
share with other men and share their stories
and discussions. Tell the men to share these
resources with their peers and feel free to
share them with other organizations.
