Today is a sad day—the last Sunday that we have Fr
Vincent here at St Francis. He has served us well for three
years, and we appreciate the contributions he has made to
our parish. We wish him well in his assignment at All Saints
Church in north Dallas.
But next Sunday will be a happy day when we
welcome our new parochial vicar, the newly ordained Fr
Zach Webb. He will carry on the ministry of Fr Vincent and,
I am sure, make new contributions to our parish. Please
welcome him when you see him.
I wish all of you a very happy Fourth of July as you
celebrate our independence and thank God for all the
blessings we have received as citizens of our country. We
are far from perfect, but we certainly want to continue our
pursuit of life, liberty, and freedom.
Next weekend we host our annual collection for our
parish-based AIDS Supper Club. For those of you who may
not be familiar with this ministry, each first Sunday of the
month a team of parish volunteers prepares food to feed
over 200 people living with AIDS. There are a series of
apartments and residences for individuals and even families
affected by AIDS in the Oak Cliff area. The residences
provide one meal per day for their inhabitants, but many
churches and organizations volunteer to provide the other
main meal of the day for the residents. We members of St
Francis parish proudly take our turn once a month to serve
them a meal. St. Francis himself would be so proud of us
since he fed the poor every single day by begging for food
and them bringing it to the hungry living on the streets of
Assisi. He personally cared for the lepers in his city and
reached out to them with love when others ignored and
shunned the lepers. Please help us continue this great
tradition of service by volunteering one of these first
Sundays, or by providing food that our team will prepare, or
making a nice donation next weekend. Since this is the only
collection we dedicate to this ministry during the year,
please be very generous in helping us serve God’s people.
When I visited them one Sunday, I was so impressed with
the joy that we give them and the smiling friendship and
gratitude they show us when we reach out. Make St
Francis himself proud that you are following in his loving
footsteps!
Hoy es un día triste—es el último domingo que el Pbro.
Vincent estará con nosotros aquí en San Francisco de Asís. Él nos
ha servido providencialmente durante 3 años, y agradecemos las
aportaciones que ha hecho a nuestra parroquia. Deseamos que
su nueva designación sea próspera en la Iglesia de Todos los
Santos en el norte de Dallas.
Pero el próximo domingo tendremos un día feliz cuando
demos la bienvenida a nuestro nuevo vicario, el recién ordenado
Pbro. Zach Webb. Él llevará el ministerio del Pbro. Vincent y,
estoy seguro que hará nuevas aportaciones a nuestra parroquia.
Por favor den la bienvenida al Pbro. Zach cuando lo vean.
Deseo a todos un muy feliz Cuatro de Julio mientras
celebramos nuestra independencia y agradecemos a Dios por
todas las bendiciones que hemos recibido como ciudadanos de
nuestro país. Estamos muy lejos de ser perfectos, pero
ciertamente queremos continuar nuestra búsqueda de la vida,
autonomía y libertad.
El próximo fin de semana será nuestra colecta especial
anual del grupo que pertenece a la parroquia el Club de Cenas
para los Afectados por el SIDA. Para quienes no estén
familiarizados con este ministerio, cada primer domingo del mes
un grupo de voluntarios de la parroquia prepara alimentos para
dar de comer a más que 200 personas afectadas por el SIDA. Hay
varios departamentos y residencias para individuos e inclusive
para familias afectadas por SIDA en el área de Oak Cliff. Las
residencias proveen una comida por día a sus habitantes, pero
muchas iglesias y organizaciones voluntariumente proveen otra
comida fuerte al día a sus residentes. Nosotros como miembros
de la parroquia de San Francisco orgullosamente nos
corresponde servirles la comida una vez al mes. El mismo San
Francisco estaría muy orgulloso de nosotros ya que él daba de
comer a los pobres todos los días rogando por comida y
trayéndola a los hambrientos en las calles de Asís. Él
personalmente cuidó a los leprosos en su ciudad y los trataba
con amor cuando otros los ignoraban y rehuían a los leprosos.
Por favor ayúdennos a continuar este servicio instituido sirviendo
como voluntarios uno de los primeros domingos del mes, ó
suministrando alimentos a nuestro grupo para preparar, ó
haciendo una donación generosa el próximo domingo.
Considerando que ésta es la única colecta que dedicamos a este
ministerio durante el año, por favor sean muy generosos al
ayudarnos a servir a la gente de Dios. Cuando los visité un
domingo en las residencias, estaba muy impresionado con el
gozo que les compartimos y las sonrisas cálidas y gratitud que
nos mostraban cuando nos acercamos a ellos. ¡Hagamos al
mismo San Francisco de Asís orgulloso por seguir sus pasos
amorosos!

Faith Formation Registration for the 2012-2013 year
is currently open for all parishioners. We are still in
need of many Catechists, Aides, Team Leaders and
Nursery Volunteers for the 2012-13 year. It takes
500 dedicated volunteers to make our Faith Formation Program successful as we serve approximately
2300 students each year. Needs are listed on our
