FATHER JOHN KALUNGI: Holy Family Parish,
Blessed Sacrament Parish and St. John Vianney Parish that
are located in the Bronx were merged during the New York
Archdiocesan process of making all things new. After the
merging of the above three parishes, the Regional Superior
of the Religious Congregation of the Apostles of Jesus, with
the approval of Cardinal Dolan, has transferred Fr. John
Kalungi to Holy Family Parish which was chosen to be the
destined Church of the other two parishes mentioned
above. However while Holy family Parish is the destined
Parish, Blessed Sacrament Parish will be a Worship Site,
and Fr. John Kalungi will be serving in both respectively.
Let us please remember Fr. John Kalungi in our prayers as
he continues to serve the people of God.
SILVER JUBILEE CELEBRATION: On Sunday
October 18th 2015 we will celebrate the silver jubilee of Fr.
Nestorio Agirembabazi’s ordination to the priesthood. Holy
Mass will be celebrated at St. Angela Merici church at
3:0pm. Reception follows immediately at 5: 00pm at
Eastwood Manor 3371 Eastchester Road, Bronx, NY
10469. Donation: $ 60.00. Dress: Formal. For more

REGISTRATION FOR CCD: We have begun our annual
Registration of children and Adults who wish to join our
religious education classes CCD to receive any of the
sacraments of initiation: Baptism, Holy Communion and
confirmation. To register for Baptism classes one must
come with his/her own birth certificate. To register for Holy
Communion classes one has to bring his/her own Baptism
certificate. Those for confirmation classes must bring both
Baptism and communion certificates. Registration is done
in our parish office during week days from 9:30 to 4:00pm
and every Saturday from 10:00am to 12:30pm. However
Our CCD forms are provided at the back of the Church for
all Children and Adults who wish to join our Religious
education program (CCD). Each student has to bring a
contribution of $50.00. Classes will begin on September

LABOR DAY: We shall have one Holy Mass on Labor
Day Monday September 7th 2015 in the morning at 9:30
am. We will not have our usual daily Mass at 1:00 pm. Our
Parish office will be closed the whole day.

A PILGRIMAGE TO THE HOLY LAND AND
ITALY: A pilgrimage to the holy land and Italy has been
scheduled to take place from May 1st 2016 to May 14th
2016. It will be a great holy trip with the spiritual direction
of Father Nestorio Agirembabazi our pastor who will be
traveling with us. Whoever wishes to make this holy

SEPTEMBER 11th: Holy Masses for the commemoration
of our brothers and sisters who lost their lives in the tragedy
of September 11th will be celebrated on Friday September
11th 2013. Time: 1:00pm in English and 7:30pm in
Spanish. Please remember to provide us with the names of
those that you wish to be mentioned during Mass on that
day. At the time of offertory each devotional group and
church ministry will be provided with three lit candles to be
carried and offered near the altar in memory of the people
who died on September 11th. Please let us come together as
a community of true believers to pray for the souls that need
God’s mercy. May they rest in peace! Amen.

FINANCE MEETING: On Tuesday September 8, 2015,
there will be a Finance meeting beginning from 7:00 pm at
the Rectory.
VOLUNTEERS TO TEACH CATECHISM: Please we
request parishioners who are able and willing to volunteer to
teach catechism to either children or Adults in our religious
education Program (CCD) in English or Spanish, to fill the
relevant forms provided at the back of the Church.
DEVOTIONAL GROUP: All devotional group leaders
will have a meeting on September 2, 2015 Time:7:00 pm at
the Rectory.

GOD - The Altar Server Ministry is calling all those with
the desire to serve God and who have their First Holy
Communion to join the Altar Server group. Those who are
willing to be an Altar Server there will be a Meeting on

the love, care, and affection that I have been receiving from
you during all the years that I have been serving and
worshiping with you at Saint Angela Merici Catholic
Church. Thank you so much for being the most supportive
and inspiring people in my life. Thank you for being there
for me always. Thank you so much for your tremendous
cooperation and generosity that I have been receiving from
each one of you. I will always cherish those precious
spiritual and social moments that I spent with you
prayerfully and joyfully. Please continue praying for me
and I will always do the same for you. May the Lord God
bless each one of you now and always! Amen.
SUNDAY REFLECTION:
Today's gospel reading introduces a familiar theme
concerning religious observance. The Pharisees were a
group of very observant Jews whose very name means in
Hebrew the "separated ones.” They were declared different
because they were so meticulous in their concern for even
the finest details of the Mosaic Law. In fact, they even
added prescriptions to this religious Law which, according
to Jesus, made it burdensome and thus compromised its
very purpose, which was to liberate also from the bondage
of scrupulosity and spiritual pride. This is what Jesus means
when he speaks of their "human traditions” which have
distorted the Law. Jesus comes into conflict with the
Pharisees, not because he under values the Jewish Law, but

because he understands that this Law is primarily about
love and freedom, and that its ritual elements are all
subordinate
to
this
primary
concern.
The danger in all ritual observance is that it can foster pride
and lead to a sense of superiority in contrast to those who
seem less observant. The result is self-righteousness and a
tendency to be judgmental in regard to others. Jesus does
not condemn ritual observance, which today would mean
frequenting the sacraments and devotion to prayer. What he
does condemn is a religious observance that is limited to the
external aspects and does not include that for which the
rituals exist, namely, conversion of one's heart from pride
and self-centeredness to loving concern and compassion for
others. Since this kind of conversion is a gift from God,
there is no reason for pride in achieving it. Life Implications
In our secularized world, many are not concerned at all
about either ritual observance or conversion of heart.
When things are going well, there seems to be no need for
God, much less religious observance. This gospel message
may seem irrelevant to such as these. However, reality will
inevitably place all of us in a situation of need and, when
that happens, we can only hope that we have the good sense
to turn to God with humility and trust. The gospel speaks
directly to those of us who are in fact serious about the
requirements of religious observance. For us, the Pharisees
serve as clear examples of the grave danger of careful but
superficial observance. We may be scrupulously concerned
with all kinds of pious practices, some indeed of our own
devising. But at the same time we may be seriously lacking
in compassion and forgiveness.
We may very well be, like the Pharisees, self-righteous and
judgmental. Such a situation provides us with the illusion of
virtue but it is in fact far removed from the deep personal
conversion preached by Jesus. Conversion of the heart
means that we have discovered that all our goodness comes
from the love of God for us. This leads to genuine prayer of
praise and gratitude as well as a real yearning to share this
gift with others. It is such persons who will excel in
generosity and tolerance and thoughtfulness. And in their
praise and gratitude they will truly fulfill the ideals of the
divine Law.

VOLUNTARIOS PARA ENSEÑAR CATECISMO: Por
favor, solicitamos feligreses que puedan y estén dispuestos
a ser voluntarios para enseñar el catecismo a los niños o los
adultos en nuestro programa de educación religiosa en
Inglés o Español, favor llenar los formularios que
disponibles en la parte posterior de la Iglesia.
INSCRIPCIÓN PARA EL CCD: Hemos comenzado
nuestra registración anual de los niños y adultos que deseen
unirse a nuestras clases de educación religiosa CCD para
recibir alguno de los sacramentos de la iniciación cristiana:
Bautismo, Comunión y Confirmación. Para inscribirse en
las clases de bautismo debe traer su certificado de
nacimiento. Para inscribirse en las clases de la Sagrada
Comunión tiene que traer su certificado de bautismo. Para
las clases de confirmación debe traer los certificados del
bautismo y de comunión. La inscripción se hace en nuestra
oficina de la parroquia durante los días de semana 9:304:00pm y los sábados 10 a.m.-12:30p.m.. Sin embargo los
formularios del CCD están en la parte posterior de la
Iglesia. Cada estudiante debe traer una contribución de
$50.00. Las clases comenzarán el 5 de septiembre.

DÍA DEL TRABAJO: Tendremos la Santa Misa en el Día

11 DE SEPTIEMBRE: La Santa Misas para la
conmemoración de nuestros hermanos y hermanas que
perdieron la vida en la tragedia del 11 de Septiembre se
celebrará el viernes 11 de septiembre de 2015. Hora: 1:00
pm en Inglés y las 7:30 pm en Español. Por favor, recuerde
escribir los nombres de los que desea ser mencionados
durante la misa de ese día. En el momento del ofertorio
cada ministerio de la iglesia traerá tres velas encendidas
para ofrecerlas en el altar en memoria de las personas que
murieron el 11 de Septiembre. Unámonos como comunidad
de creyentes a orar por las almas que necesitan la
misericordia de Dios. ¡Que descansen en paz! Amén.

años que he estado sirviendo y laborando con ustedes en
Santa Ángela Merici Iglesia Católica. Muchas gracias por
ser favorable e inspirarme en mi vida. Gracias por estar ahí
para mí siempre. Muchas gracias por su gran cooperación y
generosidad que he estado recibiendo de cada uno de
ustedes. Siempre voy a apreciar esos preciosos momentos
espirituales y sociales que pasé con ustedes en oración y
con alegría. Por favor continúen orando por mí y siempre
voy a hacer lo mismo para ustedes. Que el Señor Dios
bendiga a cada uno ahora y siempre! Amén.
REFLEXION DEL DOMINGO
Las lecturas de hoy nos hablan de la Ley de Dios y de los
legalismos y anexos que se le habían ido haciendo a esa Ley
divina a lo largo del tiempo, hasta que Jesús decide
deslastrarla de todo lo que los hombres le habían ido
agregando. Dios entregó a Moisés su Ley para el
cumplimiento estricto de todos: del viejo pueblo de Israel y
del nuevo pueblo de Israel, que es hoy la Iglesia de
Cristo. Más aún, es una Ley tan sabia, tan prudente y tan
necesaria que es indispensable seguirla, tanto para el bien
personal y como para el bien de los grupos, pequeños o
grandes, y hasta para el bien mundial.
Por eso, aparte de estar esa Ley escrita en las piedras que
Dios entregó a Moisés en el Monte Sinaí, está también
inscrita en el corazón de los seres humanos. Y cuando nos
apartamos de esa Ley, porque creemos encontrar la
felicidad fuera de ella, nos hacemos daño a nosotros
mismos y hacemos daño a los demás. Y la Palabra de Dios,
en la cual está contenida esa Ley, ha sido sembrada en
nosotros para nuestra salvación, como nos lo recuerda el
Apóstol Santiago en la Segunda Lectura: “ha sido
sembrada en ustedes y es capaz de salvarlos”. Es por ello
que nos recomienda ponerla en práctica y no simplemente
escucharla y hablar de ella.
Moisés, quien había recibido las instrucciones directamente
de Dios, había instruido al pueblo así: “No añadirán nada

ni quitarán nada a lo que les mando”. Pero sucedió que, a
lo largo del tiempo, se fueron anexando a la Ley una serie
de detalles minuciosos prácticamente imposibles de
cumplir, además de interpretaciones legalistas y absurdas
que hacían perder de vista el verdadero espíritu de la Ley.
Por todo esto Cristo tuvo que aclarar bien lo que era la Ley
y lo que eran los anexos y legalismos. Y tuvo que ser
sumamente severo contra los Fariseos, que regían la vida
religiosa de los judíos, y contra los Escribas, que eran los
que fungían de intérpretes de la Ley. Tal es el caso que nos
narra San Marcos en el Evangelio de hoy: en una ocasión
los discípulos de Jesús no cumplieron las normas de
purificación de manos y recipientes, según se exigía de
acuerdo a estos anexos y legalismos.
Por eso Jesús les insiste en este Evangelio que lo importante
no es lo exterior sino lo interior. Lo importante no son los
detalles que se habían inventado, sino el corazón del
hombre. Es hipocresía lavarse muy bien las manos y tener
el corazón lleno de vicios y malos deseos. Es hipocresía
aparentar por fuera y estar podrido por dentro. Lo que hay
que purificar es el interior, lo que el ser humano lleva por
dentro: en su pensamiento, en sus deseos. Los pecados
brotan del interior, no del exterior..
Por eso, para corregir el legalismo absurdo, dice
Jesús: “Escúchenme todos y entiéndanme. Nada que entre
de fuera puede manchar al hombre; lo que sí lo mancha es
lo que sale de dentro, porque de corazón del hombre salen
las intenciones malas, las fornicaciones, los robos, los
homicidios, los adulterios, las codicias, las injusticias, los
fraudes, el desenfreno, las envidias, la difamación, el
orgullo y la frivolidad. Todas estas maldades salen de
dentro y manchan al hombre”. Son todas cosas que nos
ensucian y que debemos expulsar de nuestro interior para
no estar manchados.
Nosotros tal vez no tengamos legalismos agregados, pero sí
podríamos revisar nuestro interior a ver si tenemos cosas de
esas que nos ensucian. Y entonces limpiarnos con el
arrepentimiento y la confesión. La Segunda Lectura de la
Carta del Apóstol Santiago nos recuerda la importancia
de “aceptar dócilmente la palabra que ha sido
sembrada” en nosotros, y que no basta escucharla, sino que
hay que ponerla en práctica, sobre todo en obras de justicia,
caridad y santidad: “visitar a huérfanos y viudas en sus
tribulaciones, y guardarse de este mundo corrompido”.

BAPTISM: This sacrament is celebrated on the last
Sunday of each month. Parents should call the Rectory
for appointment to register.
CONFESSIONS: The sacrament of reconciliation takes
place every Saturday from 4:30 PM to 5:15 PM. One can
as well arrange for a confession during the week by
calling a priest for an appointment.
ANOINTING OF THE SICK: One can call the rectory
and speak to a priest. Please let us also know of those
parishioners who are homebound. Communion is often
brought to the sick and to the homebound by priests,
deacon and our Eucharistic Ministers.
MATRIMONY: Couples must make arrangements at
least six months before their wedding date. Please call
the Rectory for an appointment with a Priest.
RELIGIOUS EDUCATION PROGRAM: Religious
Education Program Classes Schedule: Wednesdays,
