Welcome! ¡Bienvenido! - Saint Paul of the Cross
March 24, 2013/24 de Marzo 2013
“… Welcome the stranger, serve the poor, free the oppressed, speak out for justice, and love one another.”
Twenty-third Sunday In Ordinary Time
September 7, 2014
“For where two or
three are gathered
together in my
name, there am I in
the midst of them.”
Matthew 18:20
7 Septiembre, 2014
In today’s gospel: In this gospel Jesus
acknowledges inevitable conflicts arising among
those living in the community of the church. Rifts
in relationships between members of the church
are actually rifts in the relationship with Jesus
himself. Not facing whatever fractures the unity of
the church belies its gathering in Jesus' name.
Healing fractures ensures that members of the
church remain in relationship with Jesus and grow
in love for one another. The impulse for resolving
conflicts and preserving the unity of the church
comes from Jesus himself and his continued
presence in the community. The response to Jesus
must come from the members of the church and
their work of reconciliation.

T he Pastor’s Corner
My dear Parishioners
There’s nothing like a stint in a hospital to alert one to the reality
of the wonders of the world of medicine. I am not referring here
to medicine itself but to the people who serve in the medical profession. A midnight ambulance ride and my experience of the
following two days as a patient has given me a profound respect
and admiration for the people who look after the hospitalized.
Most of the staff persons I encountered were unaware that I was
a priest and so I believe that what I experienced was what every
other patient experiences. I was most impressed by the professionalism of the whole staff, from the doctors and technicians
and nurses to the cleaning personnel and the many others involved in creating a warm and “hospitable” environment.
During my comparatively short stay, I enjoyed conversations
with so many of the staff. It was obvious that the patient is a
very important person to them. I heard many times over: “Is
there anything else I can do for you?” One staff member told me
that over the years she has had many wonderful talks with patients. “There are so many,” she said, “that just need someone to
listen to them. When you listen, they pour it all out, and they
seem relieved that at last someone has listened.” I know there
must be many other staff members who provide the same service.
Hospitals are places of healing, and I suspect that there may be at
least as much emotional and spiritual healing going on as physical in many of these institutions.
I would like to thank St. Paul
of the Cross Parish family on
behalf of The Lee & Gartrell
families for your generous
benevolence during this time of
great sorrow for the loss of my sister, “Dimples”.
Solomon writes in the book of Ecclesiastes that “two
are better than one… for if they fall, one will be there
to lift up the other.” The apostle Paul wrote in the book
of Romans 12 about the Gifts of Grace and the Marks
of the True Christian. In 1 Thessalonians he reminds
us to “encourage one another and build each other
up.” All these you have done for us; a steadfast
example of God’s love and comfort, helping to ease the
burden that comes with grief.
With endearing gratitude our families thank you for
all expressions of condolences and the outpouring of
generosity you have extended to all us. May God bless
and continue to keep this church community strong and
unfailing.

Mass Intentions
It was a wonderful experience for me to witness and to personally benefit from being in an environment where workers are able
to share so many of their God-given gifts with others. Caring for
the sick is such a special calling. For one who has been used to
visiting hospitals as a priest, it was a special grace to come as a
patient. Blessings come in many forms and we must be grateful
to God for all of them.
- Fr. Jerome, C.P.

MATRIMONIOS:
1. Hoy Primer domingo de
Septiembre de 2014 damos
comienzo a una nueva
experiencia parroquial. Me
refiero al Grupo Misionero.
Un grupo de personas que tras
una seria preparación se han
formado para “llevar el
mensaje de Cristo al Pueble de Dios. En otras palabras a
EVANGELIZAR nuestra parroquia. Por ahora, estos son:
Grupo I:
Gonzalo y Antonia Ramirez Pacheco
Nélida y Sandra Ozuna
Zenón Barragán
Grupo II: Bertoldo y Luisa Coronado Ortiz
Humberto y Verónica Ozuna Cruz
José Gordillo
Trabajarán en dos zonas. Los acompañaré oportunamente
todo el tiempo que tenga disponible. Es una tarea ‘eclesial’.
Tarea de sacerdote y laicos.
