PASTOR'S NOTES
To Be Young Again…….? This morning has now
turned into this afternoon and it was a whirlwind of movement and activity. I am sitting as I am writing this e-mail,
feeling tired, but unable to sleep. Everything that has
gone into the morning and early afternoon, and all that is
before me, is keeping my mind going. My morning began
with my Elk bugle alarm clock waking me at 5:30am. I
then packed for about 45 minutes, went downstairs and
had breakfast. After breakfast, I showered, shaved and
dressed. Then I took my suitcases to the truck, came
back to the rectory and grabbed the mail, and took it to
the office. From there I went to the church sacristy to get
ready for Mass. I arrived at about 7:15am. Mass started
pretty much on time and we had a wonderful celebration
of Confirmation with Peter Edward Higgins. Congratulations Pete!!! I greeted people after the 7:30am Mass and
then made a bee line to my room to change. I was driving
to the airport by 9:00am. My flight was scheduled to leave
Ontario International Airport at 11:48am. I arrived at the
airport at about 10:25am, waited a few minutes to get the
free shuttle from the long term parking area, and arrived
at the Continental ticket area just about 1 hour prior to my
flight. From there things slowed down some. The TSA
security process was not bad at all; it went without incident. I got myself a small decaf cappuccino, and began to
read some of my Commonweal and America magazines.
I am now in San Francisco International Airport. Since
arriving, I had a cup of soup, wrote a letter to a friend, and
checked e-mails. Where am I going? To New Orleans for
a National Clergy Conference concerning faith-based
community organizing. Where am I going in this pastor’s
notes? I am sitting at gate 75 waiting for the plane to
board. I see three young people sprawled out sleeping as
if in their bed at home. One of the three, an attractive
blonde girl, is literally lying on the floor of the airport sleeping. Her fiancée/husband is sleeping sitting up in the seat
above her with his legs laying dormant over her body.
Two other young people have made beds on the airport
furniture. I am thinking to myself, “When I was younger I
used to do the same thing”. I once fell asleep on the floor
of the airport in Athens, Greece and almost missed my
flight to Israel. I have made myself a bed on the airport
furniture in numerous airports over the years. However,
now-a-days I find it much more difficult to curl up on the
floor and take a cat nap. I found myself at one and the
same time thinking I’d love to be that young again; and I
like the age I am at right now. There are advantages and
disadvantages of every stage in our lives. There is never
the perfect age, the perfect time in our lives. Every stage
in life comes with challenges and opportunities. From a
Gospel perspective we are invited to embrace the “NOW”.
Jesus is quoted often in the Gospels as saying the Kingdom of God is at hand, the time of salvation is now. At
every stage in life, there is always something that has
passed; something that we cannot retrieve; something
that we must say good bye to; and equally so, at every
stage in life there is something not yet achieved; something not yet experienced; something still to be done.
Only in the “NOW”, the moment, can we find the Lord and
His peace. Preoccupation with the past or the future
causes us to miss the present moment. The present moment is the place of encounter with God. Equally so, the
“NOW” is where we encounter one another. So often,
people of all ages get stuck in the past or future. Being
trapped in a place other than the present can cause us to
suffer greatly; and more importantly, fail to experience
what the Bible calls the “visitation of the Lord”. At whatever age, the challenge for people of faith is the same.
Stay open to the “NOW”, to the moment!

THANKSGIVING DAY MASS
Please join our parish community in giving thanks and praise to God for our
abundant blessings on Thursday, November 24 at 9:30 AM. We invite you to
share your blessings by bringing nonperishable canned food or dry goods that will be given
to Catholic Charities and St. Vincent De Paul for distribution to those in need within our community.
Please note that there will be only one Mass celebrated
on Thursday, Nov. 24 at 9:30 am.
Thanksgiving Day Dinner for the Less Fortunate
The Soup Kitchen Ministry on November
24 will again host the traditional
Thanksgiving Dinner for the needy in
Fr. Ullman Hall. We are asking for donations and helping hands. Sign-ups will
be after all Masses on November 1920. Please help us feed the needy and
poor of our Community.
CHRISTMAS ANGEL TREE Please help families in need this holiday season. Catholic Charities in Vista is spon‐
soring an “ANGEL TREE” for local families in need this Christmas with the assistance of members from our parish. Choose an angel (or two) from the tree and return the UN‐

Embracing the New Translation
On the first Sunday of Advent, November 27th, we will be using the new translation. We had Father Richard Fragomeni
from the Catholic Theological Union in Chicago here in October to help us understand and embrace the new translation.
He gave us permission to tape his presentation (audio). Anyone who missed him or anyone who is interested in learning
about the changes, is invited to join us on Monday, Novem-
ber 21st at 7pm in Saint Clare Hall. All are welcome!

Memorial Mass for Sister Molly Harkin OSC
There will be a memorial Mass for Sr.
Molly Harkin OSC at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, Vista, California
on Wednesday, November 23rd at
1:00pm. Sr. Molly died in Newry Convent
on October 14th. She was reposed in St.
Clare Convent, Keady, County Armagh until her Funeral Mass on Sunday, October
16th at 11:30am at Saint Patrick’s Church
Keady. She was interred in the Convent
Cemetery after Mass. Please pray for Sr. Molly’s family, the
Sisters of St. Clare and Friends as they mourn the physical
presence of Molly from their midst. May she rest in Peace.

WMG is sponsoring an Arts & Crafts Bazaar here at St.
Francis the weekend of December 3rd & 4th. Handmade
and specialty items make wonderful Christmas gifts!
The bazaar will be held in St. Clare Hall and is open 9am
to 6pm both days. WMG will have food for purchase
throughout the day. Vendors will donate items each day
for hourly raffles. Vendors include jewelry, candles, artwork, quilts, baby items and much more. So bring your
shopping list and come on by.
There is still room if you'd like to rent a booth and sell

I. PHỤNG VỤ LỜI CHÚA (PHẦN 3) - Sau khi Lời Chúa được công bố qua các bài đọc và được diễn giải qua
bài giảng, cộng đoàn đáp lại bằng cách tỏ dấu chấp nhận qua việc Tuyên xưng đức tin, và biểu lộ mối quan tâm
đến những nhu cầu của toàn thể nhân loại qua Lời Nguyện cho mọi người.
7. Lời tuyên xưng Đức Tin; Kinh Credo hay Kinh Tin Kính: Credo nguyên ngữ La tinh có nghĩa Tôi tin. Đây
là từ đầu tiên của Kinh Tin Kính, một kinh nguyện tổng hợp các biểu thức đức tin, một hình thức cô đọng niềm
tin Kitô giáo. Trong sách Lễ Rôma có hai Kinh Credo được đề nghị; (a) Tín biểu các Tông đồ. Nguồn gốc kinh
này đến từ Giáo Hội sơ khai tại Rôma. Kinh nguyện ngắn gọn và tóm tắt những ý chính. Nhiều tác giả cho kinh
này do các Tông đồ biên sọan trước khi chia tay nhau tại Giêrusalem ra đi rao giảng Tin Mừng. Đó là truyền
thuyết ẩn chứa huấn dụ như đức tin chúng ta tuyên xưng chính là đức tin của các Tông đồ. Cấu trúc Tín biểu được
hoàn thành vào khoảng thể kỷ thứ 2 hoặc thế kỷ thứ 3 tại Rôma và được xử dụng kèm theo phép Rửa Tội. Ban
đầu, Tín biểu mang hình thức cổ truyền như mẫu đối thoại giữa người dự tòng và vị chủ tế: - Con có tin Thiên Chúa là Đấng toàn
Năng? - Thưa tin. - Con có tin Đức Giêsu Kitô Con Thiên Chúa? - Thưa tin. - Con có tin Chúa Thánh thần? - Thưa tin. Và sau mỗi
câu trả lời, người dự tòng được nhúng đầu vào giếng rửa tội. Trong nghi thức Vọng Phục sinh, khi nhắc lại lời tuyên tín Thánh tẩy, vị
chủ tế cũng đặt những câu hỏi như vậy. Đến thế kỷ thứ 3, phần chính hình thức này thêm những điều về Chúa Kitô và nói rõ hơn về
Chúa Thánh thần. Sang thế kỷ thứ 4, Tín biểu được đọc một mạch chứ không còn dưới hình thức đối thoại. Cuối cùng hoàng đế
Charlemagne áp đặt trong toàn cõi đế quốc một văn bản dựa vào bản Tín biểu đến từ Rôma làm nên bản văn chung cuộc chính thức.
(b) Kinh Tin Kính thứ 2 là Tín biểu Nicêa-Constantinople. Kinh này thêm vào “Tín biểu các Tông đồ “ những khẳng định đến từ
Công đồng hội họp tại thành Nicêa vào năm 325, và Công đồng tại thành Constantinople vào năm 381. Hai Công đồng này nhóm
họp bên Đông phương lên án những lạc giáo tức là những lầm lạc về đức tin đến từ việc các tông đồ rao giảng. Ví dụ, linh mục A-rius trình bày Chúa Kitô như một bản thể ở dưới quyền Thiên Chúa Cha. Lên án lạc thuyết này, Công đồng Nicêa khẳng định “Người
là Thiên Chúa... đồng bản thể với Chúa Cha”. Tín biểu Nicêa-Constantinople được hoàn toàn chấp nhặn vào năm 450 tại Công đồng
nhóm họp ở thành Chalcèdoine. Việc đọc kinh Tin Kính Nicêa-Constantinople trong thánh lễ chống lại các lầm lạc về Chúa Kitô như
điều không nhìn nhận Người vừa là người vừa là Thiên Chúa. Kinh được đưa vào phụng vụ bên Đông phương trước rồi sau đó mới
lan truyền vào phụng vụ Tây phương qua ngã Tây Ban Nha. Vào năm 1014, khi hoàng đế Henri II tới Rôma làm lễ đăng quang, ông
muốn trong Thánh Lễ phải đọc Kinh Tin Kính. Người ở Rôma thấy họ đâu cần thiết phải đọc Kinh này vì Giáo hội tại đó không đối
phó với vấn đề lạc giáo. Vua Henri II làm áp lực với ĐGH Bênêdictô VIII đưa Kinh Tin Kính vào Thánh Lễ tại Rôma, và đến thế kỷ
thứ 12, Kinh Tin Kính mới được chấp nhận trong Thánh Lễ Chúa nhật và những lễ Kinh Tin Kính có nhắc đến. Kinh Credo phải
được cộng đoàn cùng đọc vì mang hình thức biểu lộ đức tin đáp lại Lời Chúa công bố qua các bài đọc và bài diễn giảng. Qui chế
Tổng quát số 43 ghi; “Kinh Tin Kính hay việc tuyên xưng đức tin trong Thánh Lễ có mục đích giúp giáo dân tỏ dấu chấp nhận và
đáp ứng Lời Chúa được công bố qua các Bài Đọc, và được diễn giảng qua bài giảng, đồng thời cũng giúp họ nhớ lại những chân lý
đức tin trước khi khởi đầu cuộc ử hành Thánh Thể”. Thật ra, Kinh Tin Kính Nicêa-Constantinople mang nhiều từ thần học nguyên
ngữ La tinh khó hiểu. Những bản dịch ra tiếng phổ thông cũng không dễ dàng, vì vậy Kinh Credo thường được đặt ra nhạc và thành
bài hát do ca đoàn hát một mình đến nỗi làm lu mờ Kinh Nguyện Thánh Thể tức là lời Kinh mang mục đích tuyên xưng đức tin và
“mầu nhiệm đức tin” về sự hiện diện của Chúa Kitô sống lại. Công đồng Vatican II trở lại việc đọc bình thường Kinh Tin Kính với
hai văn bản tùy ta chọn lựa.
8. Lời Dân Chúa: Hay lời nguyện chung hay lời nguyện “đại đồng” là một trong những cải tổ thành công nhất do Công đồng Vatican II đề xướng. Quy chế Tổng quát sách Lễ Rôma số 45-46 ghi như sau: “Trong lời nguyện cho mọi người, cũng gọi là lời nguyện
tín hữu, chính dân Chúa thực hiện chức vụ tư tế của mình, mà cầu cho hết mọi người... Những ý nguyện thường là cho các nhu cầu
của Giáo Hội, cho các người trong chính quyền, và cho toàn thế giới được ơn cứu độ, cho các người đang gặp bất cứ khó khăn nào,
cho cộng đoàn địa phương”. Người Do thái ngày xưa thường tiếp nối các kinh nguyện chúc lành bằng lời cầu nguyện xin. Nối tiếp
truyền thống, các tín hữu sơ khai cũng kết thúc Phụng Vụ Lời Chúa bằng những lời nguyện tương tự. Trong thư thứ nhất gửi ơng Timô-thê, thánh Phaolô viết như sau; “Trước hết, tôi khuyên ai nấy dâng lời cầu xin, khẩn nguyện nài van, tạ ơn cho tất cả mọi người,
cho vua chúa và tất cả những người cầm quyền, để chúng ta được an cư lạc nghiệp mà sống thật đạo đức và nghiêm chỉnh. Đó là điều
tốt và đẹp lòng Thiên Chúa, Đấng cứu độ chúng ta. Đấng muốn cho mọi người được cứu độ và nhận biết chân lý” (2,1-4). Qua
những cải cách phụng vụ trong quá khứ, Lời nguyện chung dần dần biến mất và vào khoảng thế kỷ thứ 6 hoàn toàn không còn thấy
trong nghi lễ Rôma. Sau 14 thế kỷ, Lời nguyện Chung mới được Công đồng Vatican II phục hồi. Lời nguyện Chung còn mang nhiều
tên khác như Lời Nguyện giáo dân vì ngày xưa các dự tòng chỉ được dự Thánh Lễ từ khởi đầu đến hết Kinh Tin Kính thôi. Họ ra về
trước khi khởi đầu Lời Nguyện Chung dành cho giáo dân nên các dự tòng không được tham dự, cho nên mới được gọi là Lời
Nguyện giáo dân. Ngoài ra còn gọi Lời Nguyện Chung hay Lời Nguyện Phổ Quát vì lời cầu xin cho những nhu cầu và nhân danh
toàn thể ở khắp nơi. Nhập đề sách Bài Đọc đề cập đến Lời Nguyện Chung như sau; “Sau khi được soi sáng bằng Lời Chúa, toàn thể

cho những nhóm đặc biệt” (#30). Lời Nguyện Chung phải được phát nguồn từ Lời Chúa vừa được công bố, và mang hình thức cộng
đoàn đáp ứng Lời Chúa vừa được lãnh nhận. Lời nguyện nhắm vào những nhu cầu tổng quát của Giáo Hội và cộng đoàn nhân loại.
Thánh Lễ trở nên lời nguyện chung của Giáo Hội và cho Giáo Hội. Tuy nhiên cũng có thể thêm vào đó những ý chỉ đặc biệt cho các

¿Ser Joven de Nuevo?... Esta mañana se ha
transformado en la tarde y estuvo llena de movimiento y actividad. Y sentado escribiendo este correo
electrónico, me siento cansado, pero no puedo dormir.
Todas las cosas que han pasado en la mañana y en la
temprana tarde y lo que está frente a mi, mantienen
mi mente ocupada. Mi mañana se inició con el despertador y el sonido del ciervo a las 5:30am. Y después de 45 minutos bajé a tomar mi desayuno. Luego
me bañé, me rasuré y me vestí. Después tomé mi
equipaje y lo puse en la troca, regresé a la rectoría,
tome mi correo y lo llevé a mi oficina. Luego fui a la
sacristía para alistarme para la Misa. Estuve allí a
las 7:45am. Iniciamos la Misa a tiempo y tuve una
maravillosa celebración de Confirmación con Peter
Edward Higgins. ¡Felicidades Pete!!! Saludé a la
gente después de la Misa de 7:30am y luego volé a mi
cuarto para cambiarme. Y estuve manejando al aeropuerto a las 9:00am. Mi vuelo estaba programado a
salir del aeropuerto internacional de Ontario a las
11:48am. Yo llegué al aeropuerto a las 10:25am, esperé unos pocos minutos para el transporte desde el
estacionamiento y estaba frente al mostrador de Continental justamente una hora antes de que despejara mi vuelo. Todo fue en calma. El paso de seguridad
no estuvo mal, no tuve incidente alguno. Conseguí un
café sin cafeína y me puse a leer algunas revistas.
Ahora ya me encuentro en el aeropuerto internacional de San Francisco. Desde que llegué tomé una
sopa, escribí una carta a un amigo y revisé mis correos electrónicos. ¿A dónde voy? Voy a la Conferencia
Nacional de Organizadores de la Comunidad para
Clérigos en Nueva Orleans. ¿A dónde dirijo este

esperando abordar. Veo a tres jóvenes durmiendo
como si estuvieran en casa. Uno de los tres, una muchacha guapa y rubia, está literalmente dormida
sobre el piso del aeropuerto. Su comprometido/esposo
está dormido en un asiento sobre ella descansado sus
pies sobre el cuerpo de ella. Otros dos jóvenes han
hecho sus camas utilizando el mobiliario del aeropuerto. Me puse a pensar que cuando era joven yo
hice lo mismo. En una ocasión dormí sobre el piso del
aeropuerto de Atenas, Grecia y casi pierdo el vuelo a
Israel. He usado el mobiliario de aeropuertos como
mi cama por varios años. Sin embargo, en estos días
es muy difícil que yo duerma de esa manera acurrucándome como un gato. Me doy cuenta que desearía estar joven de nuevo, pero me gusta la edad que
ahora tengo. Tiene ventajas y desventajas cada etapa
de nuestras vidas. No existe la perfecta edad de la
vida ni el tiempo perfecto de nuestra existencia. Cada etapa en la vida viene con desafíos y oportunidades. Desde la perspectiva del Evangelio estamos invitados a abrazar el “AHORA”. Jesús, con frecuencia,
lo menciona en los Evangelios diciendo que el Reino
de Dios está aquí, la salvación es ahora. A cada momento en la vida, existe siempre algo que ha pasado,
algo que ya no se puede obtener, algo que le tenemos
que decir adiós; y de la misma manera, en cada etapa
de la vida hay algo que todavía no se obtiene, algo
que no se ha experimentado, algo que se tiene que
hacer. Solo en el “AHORA”, el momento, en que podemos encontrar al Señor y su paz. La preocupación
con el pasado o el futuro nos provoca perder el momento presente. El momento presente es el lugar del
encuentro con Dios. De igual manera, el “AHORA” es
donde nos encontramos los unos con los otros. Con
frecuencia, hay personas de todas las edades atrapados en el pasado o en el futuro. Siendo atrapados en
otro lugar distinto del presente que puede causarnos
un gran sufrimiento, y todavía más importante, no
tener la experiencia que la Biblia llama “la visitación
del Señor”. En cualquier edad, el desafío para la gente de fe es el mismo, estén abiertos al “AHORA”,
¡para el momento!

RITO PARROQUIAL/PENITENCIAL DE ADVIENTO
El mejor camino para prepararnos para la Navidad es reconciliarnos con nuestro Dios. Reconciliar‐
nos personalmente y como una comunidad de fe. Nuestro Rito Penitencial Parroquial de Adviento será el jueves 1 de diciembre: 1:00 pm y a las 7:00 PM. MISA DE “DIA DE GRACIAS”
Una de las fiestas más significativas en
este país es la Celebración del “Día de
Gracias”: el jueves 24 de noviembre.
Nuestra Misa Comunitaria será a las
9:30 de la mañana. Y les pedimos comida enlatada
para distribuir a los pobres. La comida de Día de
Gracias para quienes lo necesiten, especialmente
nuestros hermanos indigentes, será en los Salones
Parroquiales a las 12:00 del mediodía a las 2 de
la tarde. Las Oficinas parroquiales estarán cerradas
los días 24 y 25 de noviembre.

Debido a las lluvias hemos retrasado nuestro plan de tener estacionamiento extra en Rollins Way. Les pedimos a cada uno de ustedes que NO utilicen los estacionamientos de Wendy’s o Denny’s y utilicen el estacionamiento de Rollins Way. En 3 semanas este estacio‐
namiento se extenderá dando acceso por Gold Dr/ Melrose Dr. Para Navidad, esta fase de construcción estará terminada y habrá estacionamiento extra cada fin de semana. ¡Muchas Gracias por su comprensión y paciencia! ¡AYUDANDO
