HOOD RIVER LIONS CLUB Eagle Project by Nathan McCaw Hood River Lions Club Troop 282 The waterfront changed dramatically during a November 2006 flood event which deposited 1,500,000 cubic yards of Mt. Hood sediment at the mouth of the Hood River. This event created new areas of steep drop-offs and swift currents on the sandbar and beaches. Please familiarize yourself with these areas and follow the enclosed guidelines for safety on the waterfront. CAUTION: BEGINNER/ KITESCHOOL AREA GUIDELINES Emergency Vehicles: Cars: Please keep the red-zone parking at the Event Site clear for emergency vehicles. Boats: Please give space to rescue boats if they need to come in the Safe Zone. Windsurfers: Kiteboarders: Dogs: Spectators: If you can sail upwind after launching, please do! You’ll clear out some of the congestion, and the wind is better up there anyway! Please be a responsible dog owner! Keep your dog on a leash with you at all times. Pick up and dispose of waste. Pump, dry & rig kites on the sandbar only. You are welcome to park at the Event Site and carry gear to the sandbar on low water elevation days. Kite lines can cause serious injury. Please stay 200’ back from kiteboard launch area unless participating. Swimmers: Swim at your own risk! The confluence of the two rivers, Hood River and Columbia River, create cold, swift currents and steep drop-offs. Life jackets or other flotation devices are recommended, especially for children. Please use caution at all times when near and in the water.
