God was just your little boy, Tell me what to say! Did you lift Him up, sometimes, Gently on your knee? Did you sing to Him the way Mother does to me? Did you hold His hand at night? Did you ever try Telling stories of the world? O! And did He cry? Do you really think He cares If I tell Him things ------Little things that happen? And Do the Angels' wings Make a noise? And can He hear Me if I speak low? Does He understand me now? Tell me -------for you know. Lovely Lady dressed in blue ------Teach me how to pray! God was just your little boy, And you know the way. Mary Dixon Thayer who wrote more than one poem for Our Lady, is the author. This prayer-poem was popularized in the 1950s by Archbishop Fulton Sheen. Mass Schedule Saturday Vigil 5:30pm Sunday 8am & 10:30am Misa en español 12:30pm Quinto Domingo de Pascua 10 de Mayo de 2009 [email protected] www.ResurrectionCatholicRiverview.com 5th Sunday of Easter-- Happy Mother’s Day Patron Saints of Mothers St. Monica had an arranged marriage to a much-older pagan man. He was generous but had a violent temper. They had three children; Augustine, Navigius, and Perpetua. Through her patience and prayers, her husband and mother-in-law were converted. Perpetua and Navigius entered the religious Life. St. Monica prayed for her son, Augustine for 17 years, begging the prayers of priests (who avoided her because of her seemingly hopeless persistence) One priest consoled her, "it is not possible that the son of so many tears should perish." St. Augustine was baptized by St. Ambrose in 387. St. Monica died later that same year. From Parish Council On Sunday, June 28th Resurrection Catholic Church will honor our pastor, Msgr Antonio Diez. On the occasion of his Golden Jubilee of Ordination 11:00am Mass concelebrated by Bishop Robert M. Lynch. Immediately following will be a brunch. ************* Tickets $5 person $10 family of four ($1 each additional family member) ************* We are planning for 400 people. St. Gerard Majella Patron of expectant mothers, born in Muro, Italy, he joined the Redemptorists at the age of 23. He served as sacristan, gardener, porter, and tailor. Because of his great piety, extraordinary wisdom, and his gift of reading consciences, he was permitted to counsel religious women. This humble servant of God also had the gifts of levitation and bi-location. He had great charity, obedience, and selfless service as well as his ceaseless mortification for Christ. He was afflicted with tuberculosis and died in 1755 at the age of twenty-nine. This great saint is invoked as a patron of expectant mothers because of a miracle as a result of his prayers for a woman in labor. St. Nicholas of Tolentino became a monk at 18, and seven years later, he was ordained a priest. He gained a reputation as a preacher and a confessor. The town of Tolentino suffered from civil strife between the Guelphs, supporters of the pope, and Ghibellines, who supported the Holy Roman Emperor. Nicholas was a pastor and ministered to the poor and criminals; he cured the sick with bread St Nicholas of Tolentino over which he had prayed to Mary. Pietro Perugino, 1507, Nicholas died in 1305 after a long illness. Galleria Nazionale d'Arte Antica, Rome People immediately petitioned for his Canonization; he was canonized by Eugene IV in 1446. His relics were rediscovered in 1926 at Tolentino. When we think of Mary, we are called to her son. Is hers not the face that most resembles Christ’s? Pelikan quotes Dante’s Divine Comedy, which recalled the words of St. Bernard of Clairvaux: “Look now upon the face that is most like the face of Christ, for only through its brightness can you prepare your vision to see him.” We consider Mary as the paragon of human virtue, our model of faith who is the humble handmaid of the Lord, yet a woman of immense power. Her luster, though, always shines in relation to Jesus. That’s why Vatican Council II included its summary of Marian doctrine in the Dogmatic Constitution on the Church, rather than issue a separate decree on Mary. The Council Fathers wanted us to place Mary squarely within our experience as a Christian community. “Behold, your mother.” These words of Jesus, from the cross, to his beloved disciple (John 19:27) are a message of Jesus to each member of his Church: Behold your mother, the one who brings God’s life to you. Hence, over time, Mary has become an image of the Church itself. Women and men, created by God, bound one to another by and through the love of God—these are the Church and the Church is our mother. Mary is our deepest symbol of that.” Excerpted from: Picturing Mary: A Mother's Love By John Feister, who was so taken by the depiction of Mary in art throughout time that he created a documentary on the subject: He provides a most beautiful summary of our Holy Mother, which was commissioned by the U.S. bishops’ Catholic Communication Campaign last year.
