A Thought from St. Teresa of Avila
“Christ has no body now
on earth, but yours;
no hands but yours;
no feet but yours.
Yours are the eyes through which
He is to go about doing good;
yours are the hands
with which He is
to bless people now.”

Annual Fair Trade Sale will be held Saturday November 12th
from 9 A.M. to 5 PM and Sunday November 13th from noon
until 4 P.M.
Each purchase helps families in both the United States and
less developed countries work their way out of poverty.
Choose from an abundance of hand crafted items for
yourself, your home or as gifts. Buying a scarf, basket,
jewelry, pottery, household items, or gift allows the artisans,
who create them to put more nutritious food on the table,
send their children to school and have access to medical
care. If you choose to buy and use fair trade items, your
purchases will reflect your faith and your stand for justice.
You will probably also find a little gift for yourself, guilt free.
We hope you will come and support this effort. If you have
questions, contact Kathy Lietz at 721-3330 or

Another Look at Sacramentals and
Devotional Prayer by Jim Gontis. (continues)
THE ROLE OF PERSONAL EXPERIENCE
IN PRAYER. These experiences reach deep into
our souls. We know we are Catholic. More than
knowing, we feel we are Catholic. I would wager
that if you asked practicing Catholics what their
strongest memories are of their Catholic faith, most
would speak of liturgical experiences, sacramentals,
and devotional prayer. They wouldn't use those
terms, though. They might say Holy Hours, incense,
rays of sunlight shining through stained-glass
windows, or lighting a votive candle. They might
speak of Corpus Christi processions and the
crowning of the statue of Mary in the month of May.
They might mention the Brown Scapular they
received from their grandmother when they made
their First Holy Communion or a favorite statue from
their childhood church …http://www.usccb.org/beliefsand-teachings/how-we-teach/catechesis/catecheticalsunday/prayer/parish-resources-jim-gontis.cfm
The Gospel at Home. This Week’s Gospel:
Luke 18:9-14 Pharisees were the religion teachers
of Jesus’ time. They taught Jews their religious
traditions and challenged them to apply the Law to
their lives. Jesus had more in common with the
Pharisees that with any other religious group of his
day. In Sunday’s Gospel story, Jesus is not
criticizing the values and belief of a whole religious
group. He is criticizing an individual Pharisee’s selfrighteousness. In Jesus’ time few people liked tax
collectors because they collaborated with the
Roman government. Jesus’ story challenges us to
examine how we view others and how God views
us. In God’s eyes, everybody is somebody.
Pray Together. Together read the Gospel parable
of the Pharisee and the tax collector. Then spend a
moment or two in silence, and then repeat three
times the prayer “Lord, have mercy on us!”

misericordia de nosotros”.
