JANUARY 25, 2015 SOCIAL CONCERNS The Poor Box for the month of January is for Mercy Health Clinic (MHC). Mercy Health Clinic serves uninsured, low-income adult residents of Montgomery County and is committed to providing high quality medical care, health education and pharmaceuticals to eligible patients free of charge. Did you know that Our Lady of Lourdes on East West Highway has a homeless program providing meals on Sunday nights and a “clothes closet” where needy guests can obtain donated clothing? Men's Clothing is ALWAYS needed. You can bring items to Our Lady of Lourdes clothes closet adjacent and left of the school cafeteria from 4:30 to 5:30 PM on Sundays. St. Bartholomew Parish will be joining with area Christian congregations in a commemoration of the worldwide Week of Prayer for Christian Unity with a service at St. Mark Presbyterian Church, 10701 Old Georgetown Road, North Bethesda this Sunday, January 25 at 3.00 p.m. The homilist will be Fr. John Crossin, Executive Director of the Secretariat for Ecumenical and Interreligious Affairs of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops. Special music will be provided by the combined choirs of the participating churches and the Trinity Lutheran Handbell Choir. THIRD SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME The flowers on the altar this weekend were sponsored by the O’Riordan Family for a Special Intention. If you would like to sponsor flowers on the altar in memory of loved ones, living or deceased, please print your name, phone number, and the occasion or loved one you wish to remember on a purple Flower Contribution envelope, which you will find in the church vestibule. Minimum contribution for two vases on the main altar is $75. We can only honor one individual request per weekend, so please bear in mind that, sometimes, the date you require may already be taken. Also, for your information, we will not be able to accept requests for the sponsoring of flowers on specific liturgical dates. If your New Year's Intentions include a weekend prayer group or if you're just open to the idea - the new St. Bart's Saturday Morning Women's Prayer Group meets 1st and 3rd Saturday mornings 8:30 to 10:30 at Kathleen Goldsmith's house, 8113 Hamilton Spring Road, Bethesda. VOLUNTEERS NEEDED - the small altar linens, which are used at each Mass, are laundered by a group of women in the parish. This group needs new members. The commitment is just one time each month. The Faith and Fiction Book Group will meet this Sunday, January 25, at 1:30 in the parish meeting room to discuss John L'Heuruex's novel The Miracle. All are welcome. St. Bart's Youth Group: we are a group devoted to learning that our Faith is not about rules but about experiencing true happiness and growing into the best-version of ourselves by simply doing and loving the good things of life! Join the Knights of Columbus - the Rock Creek Council of the Knights of Columbus welcomes new members. The Council is having a 1st Degree Ceremony on February 4, followed by a 2nd Degree Ceremony on February 5, and a 3rd Degree Ceremony on February 6. You could become a full member in just 3 days. The 3rd Degree Ceremony is a State-wide event and is not usually held in Bethesda. If you cannot make those dates, there are also 1st Degree ceremonies on March 26 and May 14.
