HURRICANE MATTHEW UPDATES AS OF 7:00 PM
WEDNESDAY
SAVANNAH, GA (October 5, 2016) - Chatham County is currently under a Hurricane Watch.
Hurricane Matthew is traveling north at 12 MPH and is approximately 600 miles from Chatham
County.
Significant coastal flooding is possible mid to late week. High surf, large breaking waves are
also possible.
Tybee Island has a mandatory evacuation in place as of 3:00 pm Wednesday, October 5.
Resident of all three islands and low lying areas east of the Wilmington River are urged to
evacuate beginning at 8:00 am Thursday. All areas in and about rivers or tributaries are also
urged to evacuate.
Any person that elects not to evacuate should be prepared to ride out the storm in a secure area
with three days’ non- perishable provisions and adequate drinking water, given the potential for
loss of power for 72 hours or greater.
Citizens with functional or medical needs (FMN) should call the Chatham County Public Health
Department at 912-691-7443 for help with finding resources.
Georgia Power has activated their emergency center. They are closely monitoring the storm and
power grid. They have initialized preparedness efforts and are ready to respond to any power
outages when safe to do so.

HURACÁN MATTHEW ACTUALIZACIONES
Miércoles 6:00 pm Savannah, GA (5 de Octubre de 2016) - El Condado de Chatham se encuentra
actualmente bajo una vigilancia de huracán. El huracán Matthew se desplaza hacia el norte a 12
kilómetros por hora y esta aproximadamente a 600 millas del Condado de Chatham.
Es possible que hayan inundaciones costeras significativas. Oleaje alto y grandes olas rompientes
también son posibles.
Tybee Island tiene una evacuación obligatoria desde 3:00 pm Miércoles, 5 de octubre.
Residentes de las tres islas y zonas bajas al este del río Wilmington se les exhorta a evacuar a
partir de las 8:00 am del jueves. También se les exhorta a todas las áreas en y alrededor de los
ríos o afluentes a evacuar.
Cualquier persona que elija no evacuar, debe estar preparado para salir de la tormenta a un área
