Join the Food Pantry Summer Fun Challenge!
We are launching our 4th annual Summer Fundraising Challenge for the Helping Hands Food Pantry. The fundraiser will
run from June 1st through September 8th.
The Summer Fun Challenge is a "Do-It-Yourself" Fundraising
event... you decide what type of event you'd like to run and
graciously donate the proceeds to the Food Pantry. Events can
be as simple as a lemonade stand or as elaborate as hosting a
BBQ in the park for all your friends and asking them to contribute the cost of their meal.
We are very grateful to all the families that have organized
fundraisers in the past and hope ALL our parishioners can participate this year. Every donation is worthwhile no matter its
size. Participation is the key! All the donations add up!
Please collect more information at the back of the church or at
the Rectory. Or email [email protected] or
[email protected] for more information. We are happy to
help. Enjoy your event!
Please make all checks out to
St. Augustine’s Helping Hands Food Pantry.

Foundation for Ministry Program
Are you thinking about volunteering for a parish ministry? Are
you already in ministry or part of the Parish Pastoral Council but
need to update on the teachings of the Catholic Church? Perhaps
the Pastoral Institute’s Foundations for Ministry Program is for
you! This 10-week program, designed for adult learners, covers a
different topic each week. For example, The Emerging Role of the
Laity; Jesus: His Ministry; and One Church, Many Faces. Classes
begin in September and are being offered in Brooklyn and in
queens. In addition to English and Spanish, the program is also
being offered in Mandarin and Polish. If you are interested, please
ask the pastor for a copy of the registration form or contact the
Pastoral Institute at
718-281-9556 or [email protected] for more information (Ask for Nelsa Elias).
Volunteer Needed at Respite Shelter
“But if anyone has the world’s goods and sees his brother in need,
yet closes his heart against him, how does God’s love abide in
him? Little children, let us not love in word or talk but in deed and
truth. 1 John 3:17-18.
St. Francis Xavier and St. Augustine Parishioners will again be
volunteering at the respite shelter house this summer at our
neighboring church, Old First Reformed. This will be our third
year joining a variety of congregations from across Park Slope to
provide a nutritious dinner, fellowship and a safe, clean, comfortable place to sleep for ten to twelve guests per night. The overall
shelter program is coordinated by CAMBA (go to
www.camba.org to find out more). St. Augustine has committed
to staffing the week of August 5th and St. Francis Xavier for the
week of August 19th. There are two volunteer opportunities each
evening Monday through Friday: work with others to provide
dinner, OR, stay overnight with another volunteer. If you are interested in social justice and want to join us in putting our faith
into action this summer, please sign up. For SFX call Regie
Hawkey: 718-788-3198, [email protected]. For St. Augustine
call Lydia Vazquez at 718-623-0457.

If you are… traveling away from
home this summer, don’t forget to include worship in your vacation plans.
Visit the website at masstimes.org for the
nearest Catholic Church and their mass
schedule. Thank you for supporting your
parish 52 weeks a year. Many parishioners make up missed
contributions when they return.
Note to our envelope users…
Thank you for your regular support of the parish. Please drop
us a note in the collection if you change your address or phone
number during the year, so we can keep our parish records upto-date.
It helps our workers if you do not use tape or staples on the
envelopes. It also helps if you put the amount of your donation
and your envelope number on the envelope/check. All donations are registered according to the date they are received, no
matter what date is on the envelope. If you are donating for
several weeks you may write one check for the total amount.
However, please use separate checks for Pantry, Campaign,
National Collections, and Missions donations.
