mejor entendimiento entre nuestras comunidades Latinoamericanas mostrarando lo mejor
de su folklore y tradición con el objetivo de traer orgullo a nuestras comunidades
Latinoamericanas y que nos conozcan mejor las otras culturas que comparten con nosotros

En los últimos 30 años de mi vida el folklore, la danza y el teatro han estado presentes con
gran fuerza; dándome la entereza y la seguridad para sentirme orgullosa de mi país y de mi
cultura Mexicana. Al llegar a este país en 1987 comenzó una nueva alimentación cultural.
Los Angeles me ha nutrido de la cultura Internacional pero en particular de la Cultura
Latinoamericana. Hoy les digo que no necesitas nacer en Latinoamerica para que
Latinoamerica nazca en ti!
The main goal of Semblanza Latinoamericana 2010 is to open a door for better
understanding within our Latino communities bringing the best of folklore and traditions to
bring pride to our Latino Communities and cultural awareness to our audiences.
For the past 30 years with great influence Folklore, dance and theater has been present in
my life; giving me the strength and security to feel proud of my culture and my roots. When
I arrived to Los Angeles in 1987, I began to enrich my spirit with different ethnologies as well
as having been exposed to a variety of International cultures and in particular to the Latin
America ones. Today I can tell you; you don’t need to be Latin American to let Latin America
culture grow in you!

Por su gran labor humanitaria y su profundo compromiso con la canción
Latinoamericana.
This year Semblanza Latinoamericana recognize Fernando Ubiergo as:
Ambassador of the Latin American Cultures 2010 for his great humanitarian legacy
and his profound compromise to the Latin American music.
Fernando Ubiergo, cantor y músico chileno, destacado por un trabajo musical
creativo desarrollado en más de treinta años de carrera, que incluye triunfos en el
Festival Internacional de la Canción de Viña del Mar, el Festival de Benidorm y el
Festival de la OTI, entre otros logros. La crítica ha premiado de manera casi
constante sus líricas sencillas y profundas, y, además, se ha ganado la admiración
de diversas generaciones de chilenos y latinoamericanos por su estilo de narración
musical.1 Actualmente renunció a ser presidente de la SCD, dedicándose a su
carrera completamente, logrando un triunfo más en el Festival de Viña del Mar de
Febrero de 2009, Presidiendo el Jurado,
el público lo premio con antorcha y
gaviotas de Plata y Oro.
Fernando Ubiergo, singer and song
writer from Chile, has been admire and
recognize for his great talent and musical contribution for the past 30 years of
his professional career. Fernando has
been recognized internationally in " Viña
del Mar Festival" , "Benidorm Festival"
and the "OTI Festival" among others.
The critics are constant grafting his wonderful work. His lyrics are simple and
profound, reason enough to get the
admiration from several generations of
fans from Chile. He recently resigned to
his presidency from SCD "Chilian
Society of Author's rights). Now is fully
dedicated to promote his work and
music, getting once again the great
recognition at the "Viña del Mar Festival
2009", the audience gave him the Torch,
and Silver and Gold Gaviota.

Under the Direction and Choreography of Maria del Carmen Cena in Folk and Zita
Gonzalez in Tango. The company has participated in several events and shows such
as the National Festival de Peñas of Villa María, Córdoba Argentina in 2002, 2007,
2008 and currently preparing for the 2011 . Local performances such as; The Milonga
Elegant Tango and Milonga Tango Splash of Santa Monica. “Potpourri of Music, Singing
& Dancing” at the Bovard Auditorium on the USC campus where they were proud to
participate with highly regarded local Argentine performers in Southern California.

Tango y Milonga: La Puñalada de Juan Darienzo Tanguera de Mariano Mores)The tango its
melancholic and introspective way to dance, definitely it is the reflection of the feelings, and the
soul of the Argentinean people. The Milonga is a rhythm also originated in the Rio De la Plata and
has its roots from various European music. The milonga is a dance that was born earlier than
tango and uses the same basic elements that later fully developed the tango. Both rhythms
required a great relaxation of legs and body, but the milonga movements are normally faster, and
pauses are not made.

Bajo la Dirección y coreografía de María del Carmen Cena en Folklore y Zita González
en Tango. La compañía ha participado en varios eventos y espectáculos como el Festival
Nacional de Peñas de Villa María, Córdoba Argentina en el 2002, 2007, 2008 y próximamente
en el 2011. En la Milongas Tango Splash & Tango Elegant y II encuentro anual de Popurrí de
Música, Canto & Baile en el Auditórium Bogar de la Universidad USC donde fue un orgullo participar junto a grandes figuras locales Argentinas del sur de California.
Tango y Milonga: (La Puñalada de Juan Darienzo Tanguera de Mariano Mores) El tango es el reflejo de
las emociones y del alma del pueblo Argentino. El tango y su danza, han pasado por varias etapas históricas y sus figuras coreográficas fueron adquiriendo una plasmación de extensas posibilidades,
autentico desafío a la técnica y a la creatividad estética. La milonga nació antes que el tango pero usa los
mismos elementos básicos que más tarde desarrollaron el tango. Los dos ritmos requieren una gran
relajación del cuerpo y las piernas pero los movimientos de la milonga son mas rápidos y sin pausa. Se baila
mas caminando que con complicadas figuras y tiene un estilo más rustico que el tango.
Folklore:
Fantasía de Bombo y Malambo, Poupourrí de danzas del Sur. Tres grandes acontecimientos históricoculturales fueron moldeando al folklore Argentino; la colonización española (siglos XVl-XVlll), la imigración
europea (1850-1930), y la migración interna (1930-1980). Algunas danzas típicas son la zamba, el gato y
la chacarera que son danzas de pareja (varon y mujer). Su principal protagonista es el gaucho, fue el hombre de nuestro campo, bailada únicamente por varones donde muestra la destreza en el zapateo puede
ser individual o colectivo.

Folklore:
Fantasy of Bombo(Drums) and Malambo, Potpourri of dances from the south. Three big historical
and cultural influences developed the Argentine folklore: the Spanish colonization between the
XVl-XVlll century, the European immigration (1850-1930) and the internal migration (1930-1980).
The main character within the folklore is the Argentine cowboy, known as the “gaucho” he is about
pride, dignity and individual integrity. The gaucho dance is an energetic and vigorous art of
percussive footwork known as “malambo” which is mainly interpreted by men.

In 2005 this dance company was created to share their culture here in California.
“Tinku” was our first dance. We had won several competitions and had appeared in
channel 27, 34 and 52 as well other local channels. We participated in Semblanza
Latinoamericana 2007 & 2209.

Musical group: Wayna Pacha under the direction of Javier Carrasco Tarkas
instruments played on the high mountains of the Andes. This instrument has been
played for thousands of years by the Aymanra empire during the rainy seasons, mostly
on ceremonies as well as happy and festive occasions. Our Tarka group had played at
international festivals such as Zoca University, Irvine Global Villlage International Music
Festival, and various International festivals and gatherings.
El Tinku: This is a Quechua word that means ‘meeting”. Tinku is the name of the
ritual of war usually called “Alasaya” (from the Top) and Majasaya (from the bottom).
It would seem a war but it is a ritual to unite all the elements to celebrate life.

En el 2005 la compañía fue creada con el propósito de vivir y compartir nuestra
cultura en California. “Tinku” fue nuestra primera danza . Hemos ganado
reconocimientos y premios así como la participación en diferentes canales de
televisión como el 27, 34 y 52 entre otros canales locales. Participamos en el 2007
& 2009, en Semblanza Latinoamericana.
Tobas: This dance is a representation of the “Chaco Boliviano”. Before the arrival of the
Spaniards the relationship between the Andino culture and the Amazonic culture was of
domination and resistance. The army Quechua took several prisoners from the
Sevicolas called Ch’unch’us. The arraival of this people from the Oriental world inspired
the Aymaras to create a dance called “Ch’unch’us”, it is a way to own this cultural
legacy.

Grupo Musical: Wayna Pacha bajo la dirección de Javier Carrasco . Los instrumentos
de Tarkas se tocan en las partes más altas de las montañas de los Andes en tiempos
de lluvia, mayormente en ceremonias y festividades paganas durante el apogeo de los
Aymana. Esta música ha sido una tradición milenaria. Nuestro grupo de Tarka ha participado en festivales internacionales como el Zoca University, Irvine Global Village
Internacional Festival de Música entre otros.
El Tinku: Tinku es una palabra quechua que significa "encuentro, unión, equilibro, convergencia". Tinku es el nombre de las peleas rituales en las que se encuentran dos
bandos opuestos, frecuentemente llamados Alasaya (lado de arriba) y Majasaya (lado
de abajo). Pareciera una guerra pero en realidad es un ritual para unir los elementos
y celebrar la vida.
Tobas: La Danza de Tobas es una representación figurativa de las tribus del Chaco
boliviano. Desde antes de la colonia la relación entre la cultura andina y la Amazonía
fue de dominación y de resistencia. En sus incursiones, el ejército quechua tomó prisioneros selvícolas, llamados ch'unch'us. La llegada de estos orientales al mundo occidental inspiró en los aymaras la creación de una danza bautizada precisamente
ch'unch'us, que no es más que una manera de apropiación cultural

Folklore De Mi Tierra and its cumbiamba dance group "La Puya Loca" are non profit entities, formed by a group of enthusiast Colombians residing in Southern California since 2005,
although the group also participated during the cultural celebrations at FIFA’s World Cup –
USA ’94. The Cumbia is perhaps the most internationally recognizable Colombian cultural
treasure and as such is the most popular dance by “La Puya Loca”, although the group also
offers in its repertoire other folkloric dances like mapalé, garabato, bambuco, sanjuanero and
currulao. Due to their effort and dedication, members of “La Puya Loca” were chosen in
February of 2006 to participate and perform with the great Colombian artist, Shakira, in her
video clip “Hips Don’t lie” – Folkor De Mi Tierra” and “La Puya Loca” have participated in cultural events produced by the Colombian General Consulate in Los Angeles.

"Folklore De Mi Tierra" y su cumbiamba "La Puya Loca"; organización sin fines de lucro, es
formada por un grupo de entusiastas Colombianos residentes desde Enero del 2005,
aunque el grupo participó anteriormente durante las celebraciones culturales de la Copa
Mundial de Fútbol – USA ’94. La cumbia es tal vez el tesoro musical y cultural de Colombia
de mayor reconocimiento mundial y como tal es la representación más popular de “La Puya
Loca”, aunque la agrupación también ofrece en su repertorio las danzas folklóricas del
mapalé, del garabato, el currulao, el bambuco y el sanjuanero. Debido al esfuerzo y dedicación, los miembros de “La Puya Loca” fueron escogidos en Febrero del 2006 para participar en la grabación del video clip “Hips Don’t Lie” de la gran artista colombiana, Shakira.
Además “Folklor De Mi Tierra” y “La Puya Loca” han participado en eventos culturales programados por el Consulado General de Colombia en Los Ángeles.
Son Tapao: Esta danza originaria de la costa norte Caribe de Colombia, es tal vez el tesoro
cultural mejor reconocido del país suramericano en el mundo. Es una fusión musical de culturas de tres continentes: la cultura amerindia representada por las melodías indígenas de
las flautas, gaitas y maracas; el ritmo de tambores africanos y la lírica en el idioma castellano de Europa. La danza es un rito de galanteo y romance, donde la bailarina lleva el liderazgo y su pareja le rinde reverencia a su belleza y su femineidad.
La Danza del Garabato es un baile de origen español, que caricaturiza un enfrentamiento
entre la vida y la muerte y es representativa del carnaval de Barranquilla, Colombia. En ella,
la muerte portadora de una guadaña trata de atrapar a los bailarines. La palabra “garabato” proviene del nombre puesto al palo de madera con forma de gancho en uno de sus
extremos, que lleva colgadas unas cintas de colores rojo, amarillo y verde (los colores de la
bandera de Barranquilla) y que llevan los bailarines de la danza. El Garabato es utilizado
para acabar con la muerte en un desafío.

Cumbia La Puya Loca:
Son Tapao: This traditional dance from the northern
Caribbean coast of Colombia is perhaps the most recognized cultural treasure from this
South American country in the world. It’s a musical fusion of cultures from three continents:
the Amerindians represented by the indigenous melodies with the flutes, gaitas and the
maracas; the powerful rhythm from the African drums and the Spanish lyrics from Europe.
The dance is a rite of courtship and romance, where the ballerina takes the leadership and
her dancing partner offers reverence to her beauty and femininity.
Garabato: The Garabato Dance is of Spanish origin, which represents a clash between the
life and the death and its representative of the carnival of Barranquilla, Colombia. In it, the
death carrying a scythe tries to catch the ballet dancers. The word “garabato“ comes from
the name put to the wooden stick with form of hook in one of his ends, which has hung a few
ribbons of red, yellow and green colors (the colors of the flag of Barranquilla), and that the
male dancers carry. The Scrawl is used to defeat the death in a challenge.

this, the national dance “La Cueca” is presented
through regional variations that occur within

Polca: Colonial dance from the XVIII century

Cueca: Chilean national dance in couples with
the purpose of flirting where the gallantry of the
Chilean Cowboy is shown.
Zapateo: Dance of aptitude.

En su repertorio, promueven danzas del folklore que son abortadas en diferentes ámbitos
de expresión. Así mismo, la danza nacional “La Cueca” es presentada atreves de variantes
regionales que se dan a lo largo del país.
Polca: Baile colonial del siglo XVIII con influencia Española.
Cueca: Danza nacional de Chile en pareja con finalidad de conquista donde se demuestra
la galantería del Huaso Chileno.
Zapateo: Baile de destreza.
Repicao: Danza zoomorfa influenciada por el movimiento de los animales.

The Latin-American Cultural Group was created for the purpose of educating themselves and others, the diverse folklore throughout Latin America. They have been
accomplishing this by creating choreographies based on the customs and traditions of
the people, which include legends, traditional music and folklore dances from many
regions. The group has participated in different parades and festivals in Los Angeles
and Orange counties such as the Independence Day Parade for Central America and
Ecuador, LA Latino at the John Anson Ford Amphitheatre, Spanish stations Univision
34 KMEX and Telemundo 52 KVEA, Concurso de Cumbia where they were winners in
the Teen Categeory. They also participated in the Semblanza Latinoamericana in 2007
& 2009.
Ecuadorian dances:
“Chola Cuencana” Region: Ecuadorian Highlands: This dance is done in religious celebrations with the Mestizo influence (Indigenous/Spaniard).
My Ecuador (Mi Ecuador): Region: Ecuadorian Highlands: This dance is done with wonderful and colorful costumes to celebrate weddings, religious celebrations and harvest.

El Grupo Cultural Latinoamericano fue fundado con el propósito de aprender y
demostrar el folklor latinoamericano, creando coreografías basadas en las costumbres
de los pueblos, como tradiciones, leyendas, música y bailes folclóricos de diferentes
regiones. Este grupo ha participado en desfiles y festivales del Condado de Orange
y Los Ángeles como Desfile de independencia de Centro América y Ecuador, LA Latino
en el John Anson Ford Amphitheatre, Univisión 34 KMEX, Telemundo 52 KVEA,
Concurso de Cumbia, lo cual salieron campeones en la categoría juvenil. También participaron en el Semblanza Latinoamericana en el 2007 & 2009.
Guatemalan dances:
Ferrocarril de los Altos: Dance “Mengalas of Amatitlan" is influenced by the Spanish
Culture. The Mengalas of Amatitlan were the most distinguished of people thanks to the
beautiful Amatitlan Lake and the introduction of the electrical train, which is where Domingo
Betancourt got his inspiration to create this wonderful song in a "Fox Marcha" rhythm.
Amores Chapines: Inspired from the European Culture, this Mestizo dance is a competition

Amanda Vega recientemente se independizo después de 14 años con la
Compañía Paso de Oro bajo la Dirección de Alicia Mendibles para continuar con
sus estudios. Con Paso de Oro además de bailar Folklore Mexicano también
aprendió y presento bailes latinos. Como Asistente y Maestra de danza su
mejores recuerdos son de sus alumnas las más pequeñas. Actualmente, ha
comenzado a bailar bajo la instrucción de Blanca A. Soto, directora de Tierra
Blanca Dance Company. Amanda se siente honrada con esta danza de "La
Tortuga", la cual fue interpretada por Blanca A. Soto. A ella mi agradecimiento por
compartir esto tan bello.
La Tortuga: es una canción del Istmo, región de la costa del estado de Oaxaca. Esta
región tiene en particular una magia espiritual en sus canciones. En esta versión en
especial el ritual está conectado con la gran fortuna en la pesca y también como una
devoción a las Tortugas, las cuales tienen que hacer una larga trayectoria al fin de traer
sus huevecillos a la tierra. Y con esta adaptación es un llamado para la conservación
de las Tortugas.

enjoying over 14 years with Paso de Oro under the direction
of Alicia Mendibles, to pursue scholastic studies .While
with Paso de Oro, she not only performed Mexican
Folkloric , she also studied and performed all type
of Latin dance styles. Amanda also taught and
assisted in many classes. Her most precious
memories will be the classes with her little
girlies that she taught. Now, she began to
dance again with the instruction of

The Ballet Folkloric Mi Linda Nicaragua was founded in December 1991 by its
current director Miriam Arroyo. Edgar Velasquez joined the group since 1995 as a
choreographer; they have as a main goal to help and pass on their cultural values
to the communities. Over the last nineteen years, Mi Linda Nicaragua has made
headlines as a cultural and entertainment phenomenon, locally and nationwide,
putting tradition, art and culture from Nicaragua in high standards of performance.
Son Nica was formed on June, 2010 by a group of Nicaraguan musicians, with extensive
experience, who reside in the Los Angeles area. Son Nica performs a great variety of
rhythms making a special emphasis in the “son nica” – a traditional rhythm and an essential
component of the Nicaraguan Folklore.
La Mora Limpia: Written during Managua’s first centennial celebration in 1952. It is
considered the second national anthem.

En 1991 el Ballet Folklórico Mi Linda Nicaragua fue fundado por su directora,

a nuestra comunidad. En su trayectoria el ballet ha hecho múltiples presentaciones tanto locales como internacionales poniendo la tradición, arte y la cultura

Grupo Musical Son Nica: El grupo musical Son Nica nace en Junio del 2010. Constituido
por músicos, con extensa experiencia musical, de origen Nicaragüense que radican en el
área de Los Ángeles California. Son Nica cuenta con vasta versatilidad en sus interpretaciones musicales haciendo énfasis en el “son nica” – ritmo tradicional y fundamental del folklore nicaragüense.
La Mora Limpia: Este tema, escrito durante la celebración primer centenario de Managua
en 1952, es considerado el segundo himno nacional de Nicaragua.

"Ballet Folkloric Viva Panama" is a group of talented individuals from diverse
professional fields, who enjoy sharing their culture trough music and dance. Since
1991 the company has been under the direction of its founder Dr. Victor Grimaldo.
His main goal is to provide audiences with a high quality sample of the spirit and
flavor of Panama. The repertoire is composed of original pieces approached with
a contemporary vision, striving to preserve the originality and authenticity in the
rhythms and movements of the traditional dances. Ballet Folkloric "Viva Panama"
have had multiple performances inside of California, in Texas, Puerto Rico,
Mexico, recently in Canada and next year they will be in Panama & Shanghai,

In 1997 Nelly Castillo with the assistance of Sonia Velez
( Nelly's daughter) began the dance company N.C. Latin
Show, formerly known as "Ballet Folklorico Juvenil" in
the city of Anaheim. Dancing folk dances from Peru,
Bolivia, Mexico as well Latin dances such as Salsa.
N.C. Latin has had hundreds of performances
and hosted many competitions, throughout
Southern California and Mexico.
Festejo: Our Festejo (Celebration) have some
modern choreography influenced by Latin dance
in the United States, but keeps true to the erotic
and joyous movements of Afro-Peruvians.

We call ourselves "Ohlone" in our language. Rumsen is the
language spoken in one of the five villages in the area of
Monterey and Carmel of Northern California where the
Spanish landed. Thus, we are the Costanoan-RumsenOhlone Tribe.

Los españoles nos llamaron “Costanoan” que quiere decir “gente de la Costa”.
Nosotros nos llamamos “Ohlone” en nuestra lengua. Rumsen es el lenguaje que
hablamos en una de nuestras cinco villas dentro del área de Monterrey y Carmel
en el Norte de California donde llegaron los españoles. Por lo tanto ahora somos
Tribu “Costanoan-Rumsen-Ohlone”
La tribu ha estado por más de 2000 años en California. La Tribu mantiene su cultura y tradiciones al enseñar a los niños por medio de la danza nuestras ceremonias. Muchas de las danzas son presentadas en escuelas a fin de enseñar a nuestros niños nuestros múltiples temas. Algunas de nuestras danzas las bailamos
con la fuerte convicción de que en eso esta el “Poder” de bailar para mantener
una buena salud.

Gerardo nació y creció en la ciudad de México donde comenzó su carrera en la industria del cine siguiendo los pasos de su
padre y abuelo. Desde 1989 vive en Los Ángeles en donde ha
tenido la oportunidad de trabajar como Director de Fotografía y
Productor. Es co-fundador y co-productor de "Semblanza
Latinoamericana”. Desde 1999 ha sido el Director Artístico y
coreógrafo de la Compañía de Danza Tierra Blanca.

Estudió teatro y danza en la Universidad de
Guadalajara, México su ciudad natal. Sus créditos en
teatro incluyen más de 35 obras: “Frida Kahlo”,
“Drácula”, “Los Zapatistas”, “El Ermitaño”, dirigido por
Miguel Sabido, “El Impostor” (2003 y el 2008, bajo la dirección de Luis Avalos) entre
otras. Su desarrollo escénico en la obra "Balada de un Verano en la Habana" bajo
la dirección de Jorge Folgueirá la llevó al festival de teatro en Brasil y México. Con
gran éxito tuvo su show de comedia en Los Ángeles: “Bohemios Café” (2002).
Películas recientes: “Valentina's Tango” y "East Side Story". Trabajó en el 20082009 en "To Many Tamales", "La Casa de Bernarda Alba” con la Fundación Bilingüe
de las Artes, en donde además dirigió la obra "Cumbia de mi corazón "de Toby
Campion y "Eating your Colors" . Fundadora y co-productora del "Foro de Arte y
Cultura", “Semblanza Latinoamericana 2007 y 2009”, así como "Pastorela 2008".
Desde 1996 es directora de Tierra Blanca Dance Company. Su pasión por los niños
la llevó a fundar “Tierra Blanca Arts Center”.

Gerardo was born and raised in México City where he started his career in the film Industry
following the steps of his father and grandfather. He has been living in Los Angeles since
1989. Lalo has been working in several aspects of the Entertainment Industry: Director of
Photography, Producer and Director. He is the co-founder and co-producer of “Semblanza
Latinoamericana”. Since 1999 he has been the Artistic Director and Choreographer for Tierra
Blanca Dance Company.
Mi eterna gratitud a Karla Silva, Susana Bolaños, Rosy Juárez, Brenda Carrier, Grace
Vega, Griselda Vargas y Gerardo Gutiérrez por su gran ayuda, dedicación y tiempo

Directora artística en diseño gráfico y fotografía por más de 20
años. El entusiasmo y pasión por su trabajo se ve reflejado en
sus logros creativos. Su conocimiento y talento le han
permitido realizar portadas de discos y fotografías de
importantes personalidades, diseños de páginas de internet y
material promocional, así como producciones y promociones
de eventos especiales. Graduada de la Universidad
Iberoamericana en la Licenciatura en Comunicaciones y
Locución. En 1991 dejó su país natal, México, para establecerse en la ciudad de Los Angeles. Madre dedicada y comprometida a transmitirle a sus
dos hijos: Armen & Sofía la pasión por la vida, la cultura, el idioma y el arte. Semblanza
Latinoamericana 2009 fue una gran experiencia y en el 2010 su pasión por la cultura
latinoamericana se refleja en el arte gráfico de este evento.

Blanca Araceli Studied Theater and Dance at the University of Guadalajara, México,
her natal city. Her theatrical credits include more than 35 plays such as: “Frida

Corazón" (Toby Campion) and "Eating your Colors". Since 1996 Blanca Araceli has
been the Director and Choreographer of Tierra Blanca Dance Company. Her passion for the children took her to found Tierra Blanca Arts Center. She is the Founder
and co-producer of "Foro de Arte y Cultura", "Semblanza Latinoamericana 2007 &
2009" and "Patorela 2008".

Artistic director in graphic design and photography. Karla’s enthusiasm and passion for her
work is displayed through visual accomplishments. She is knowledgeable and readily available for projects ranging from soundtrack and album cover creation to portraits, fantasy photography, graphic/web design, event production and promotion.
Graduating from UIA (Iberoamericana University), and earning a B.A. in Communications
and Broadcasting. She left her native country of México and arrived to Los Angeles in 1991.
A devoted mother who wants to transmit her passion for life, culture, language and art to
both of his children. Karla's involvement in Semblanza Latinoamericana 2009 was a great
experience and in 2010 her passion for the Latin American culture is reflected in all the
graphic art done for this event.

Brenda nació en la ciudad de Guatemala, Guatemala.
Con su herencia Brazileira y Xinca, demuestra su amor
natural por la danza y las artes plásticas. Graduada de
la Universidad de Guatemala, obtuvo su licenciatura en
Pedagogía y Leyes.
Después de trabajar en
Agroproductos, una compañía agropecuaria en
Guatemala, Brenda se muda a Los Angeles California,
y continúa expresando su amor a las artes al ser parte de Semblanza
Latinoamericana 2009 y 2010. Actualmente Brenda radica en el Valle de La
Crescenta con su esposo y dos hijos.
Bolivian by birth but a Latin American by choice. More than 30
years of experience in the entertainment industry. She has
focus her productions in the promotion of the Latin American
music and dance; From Argentina, Tango Maria Garay, from
Chile Tito Fernandez and from Bolivia Kjarkas Savia Andina
among others. Due to her work she has been known as one of
the first ones in California to promote the folk and music from
Latin-America. Now she brings to Semblanza to a great Singer
and song writter, Fernando Ubiergo.

Brenda was born in Guatemala City, Guatemala. With Brazilian and Xinca bloodlines, she has a natural love for dance and performing arts. She graduated from
Guatemala University with degrees in Teaching and Law. After a tenure at
Agroproductos, the leading provider of livestock in Guatemala, she moved to Los
Angeles, California. She continues to express her love for the arts with her efforts in
Semblanza Latinoamericana 2009 & 2010. She currently resides in the Crescenta
Valley with her husband and two children.
Boliviana por nacimiento y Latinoamericana por elección. Con más de 30 años de
experiencia en la industria del entretenimiento como productora se ha enfocado a promover
los grupos latinoamericanos tanto de música como de baile; De Argentina Tango María
Garay, de Chile Tito Fernández, Bolivia Kjarkas Savia Andina entre otros. Su labor ha sido
reconocida como una de las pioneras en la difusión cultural Latinoamericana en California.
Y ahora en Semblanza trayendo al Gran Canta Autor Chileno Fernando Ubiergo.

Born in Los Angeles, California. Currently working with
at risk youth by guiding them to universities. Her love to
her culture and passion for the arts has taking her to
volunteer in Semblanza Latinoamericana 2010. Thank
you Blanca for allowing me the opportunity to be part
of this wonderful event.
Former stage manager with Paso de Oro, demonstrating
her skills and management in all the productions, 14 years
later..." I am still learning "Grace Vega. I was approached
and very flattered by Mrs. Blanca Soto, Director and
Founder of Tierra Blanca Arts Center, to help with
managing Semblanza 2010. Semblanza is strictly a
volunteer production, and some the most talented persons
have lent their talent to this event and I am honored to be
just a small part of Semblanza. Please enjoy this beautiful
evening and the vision of the amazing and talented Blanca
Araceli Soto along with her wonderful family.

estudios, ayunando-le a estudiantes a seguir su educación a la universidad. El amor
por su cultura y su pasión por las artes la llevó hacerse voluntaria en Semblanza
Latinoamericana 2010. Gracias Blanca por permitirme ser parte de este maravilloso
evento.

Como "Stage Manager", demostró su talento y habilidad para llevar a cabo producciones
con la compañía Paso de Oro por los últimos 14 años, y Grace considera..."Aún sigo
aprendiendo". Blanca Soto directora de Tierra Blanca me pidio que fuera la "Stage Manager"
lo tome con mucho orgullo. Semblanza es estrictamente una producción de voluntarios, y
algunas personas de los más talentosos han prestado su talento a este evento y me siento
honrado de ser sólo una pequeña parte de Semblanza. Por favor, disfruten de esta hermosa
velada y la visión de la increíble y talentoso Blanca Araceli Soto, junto con su maravillosa
