Today’s First Reading from Genesis is from the second creation story, in which God creates, not by
way of a regal command, but with a hands-on approach, forming the first human from clay and
blowing into his nostrils. With great care and attention, God then tries to create a welcoming environment. Realizing that “it is not good for the man to be alone,” God creates wild birds and animals
for the human, but nothing is “a suitable partner.” So God creates the woman, formed from the
same essence as the man, and they become as one. In the Gospel, the Pharisees, trying to trick
Jesus, ask him to comment on divorce. Both the Genesis story and the Gospel emphasize the
need for relationship and community so that humans are not isolated. It is God’s plan to have this
close connection among humans. The last section of the Gospel is often overlooked. Children are
brought to Jesus, so that he might touch them and they might come to know him. However, the disciples, apparently thinking these meetings are a waste of Jesus’ time, try to prevent the encounters.
But their efforts create a barrier, and Jesus is indignant. The lesson is: Don’t hinder anyone from
experiencing Christ; don’t put obstacles on the path of faith; don’t think that a person must fit a certain criteria before Jesus is interested. Christ wishes to welcome everyone. Jesus tells the disciples that “to such as these belongs the kingdom of God.” These words remind me of Pope Francis’
visit last week. To see the Holy Father merging into the crowd touching people especially the children, blessing them. This was a true example of Jesus in the Gospel. How are we Jesus to the
people of God? Do we mingle among all His children? Remember the Popes message of Mercy
Forgiveness and Love for all but especially the children and marginalized. “Let there be peace on
earth and let it begin with me.”

As the Catechism article #1285 states: “a reception of the sacrament of Confirmation is necessary
for the completion of baptismal grace. For the sacrament of Confirmation, {the baptized} are more
perfectly bound to the Church and are enriched with a special strength of the Holy Spirit.”

The Sacrament of Baptism is celebrated the first Sunday
of the Month directly following the 10 am Mass. One baptismal preparation class is required. The preparation
class seeks to help parents understand the Rite of Baptism and to prepare and support parents in the on-going
faith formation of their child. Please call the parish office

Living Your Strengths and Growing Spiritually
Do you know what specific gifts you have been given by God? Discover your God-given gifts (also known as signature
themes) in the book, Living Your Strengths, available at no cost through the parish office.
In the first letter of Peter, Chapter 4, he says:
“Each of you has been blessed with one of God’s many wonderful gifts to be used in the service of others. So use
your gift well. If you have the gift of speaking preach God’s message. If you have the gift of helping others, do it with
the strength that God supplies. Everything should be done in a way that will bring honor to God because of Jesus
Christ, who is glorious and powerful forever.”
One question that comes up from time to time is “How does knowing my strengths help me to grow spiritually?” What a
great question. Most of us grew up being told that to become strong and successful we needed to ‘fix’ our weaknesses.
Turns out, the opposite is true: We will be most successful when we build our lives – especially our spiritual lives –
around our strengths. This comes from over 30 years of research and interviews with more than 2 million people around
the world by the Gallup organization. The Living Your Strengths program identifies your top five strengths themes – a
fairly unique to you assessment. As you go through the book and take the assessment you are on your way to:
Understanding that God has given you a unique combination of talents that call you to “serve others and advance the
cause of Christ and the Church, a calling to ministry” that will enrich others and give you a tremendous sense of fulfillment in your life.
Discover how to use your talents and strengths to respond to God’s calling. In some cases that may be a reinforcement
of what you are already doing, and in others it opens up a whole new set of opportunities to do what you do best.
During the month of October we focus on the Stewardship of Service, using the Living Your Strengths program. Give it a

La fe cristiana es muchas cosas. Es una comunidad unida sacramentalmente por el Espíritu como una familia en Jesucristo. Es un movimiento audaz ofreciéndole al mundo alternativas a las suposiciones convencionales por los cuales las sociedades a menudo se rigen. Es buena nueva infundiendo el mundo con la visión de Dios, con la gracia, esperanza and
sanación, libertad y nueva vida. Es el agente de la visión y los valores del reino de Dios en Cristo. Y así. Sin embargo, inicialmente los cristianos se referían como “los seguidores del camino.” Este camino es la buena nueva de Jesucristo y la
buena nueva sobre Jesucristo. Los cristianos son ambos seguidores del Camino quien es Jesús, y del camino vivificador
que Jesús trazo con su enseñanza y ejemplo. La primera lectura de hoy del Génesis y la del Evangelio nos ofrecen algunos
pasajes fundamentales que han informados y formados el pensar, valorar y vivir cristiano en lo que se refiere a las relaciones humanas mas básicas: el matrimonio y la familia, y hacia los mas vulnerables entre nuestra familia humana, como
los niños. Puesto en balance con el mensaje firme sobre el matrimonio y el divorcio en el evangelio de Marcos, la carta a
los Hebreos nos recuerda que Dios comprende bien nuestras dificultades, luchas y fallos, y es compasivo y misericordioso.
El salmista tiene confianza de que los que experimentan dificultades pueden confiar en la bondad de Dios. Colectivamente, las escrituras de hoy comunican algo sobre la complexidad de la condición humana, mientras que al mismo tiempo ofrecen “el camino” que mas afirma al ser humano y a nuestras familias. En un mundo que a veces parece haber perdido su
camino, su vía, a lo que se refiere a estas relaciones mas fundamentales del matrimonio y la familia, la enseñanza de Jesús
ofrece un mensaje claro con la intención de servir a los esposos y sus hijos, especialmente las mujeres y niños quienes en
las sociedades de la antigüedad – así como en muchas sociedades de hoy – están mas expuestas a perder como resultado
del divorcio. En una sociedad que teme el compromiso desinteresado e incondicional, el amor y esfuerzo que el matrimonio y la familia conlleva, el evangelio de hoy y el pasaje del Génesis nos recuerda de la buena nueva del matrimonio y la
familia, que Jesús señalo como la institución que Dios había establecido como la base de toda relación humana y de la sociedad. Con el caso que muchas personas hoy evitan el matrimonio, adoptando ideas seglares/seculares y expectaciones
sobre el matrimonio, a veces carentes de su significado y valor mas profundo, tanto como las altas tasas de divorcio, matrimonios múltiples, y así sucesivamente, las cristianos recuerdan de que hay un camino mejor. Algunas veces el divorcio,
como el Papa Francisco mismo ha dicho, es necesario; sin embargo, es también verídico de que muchos matrimonios
pueden haber perdurado y florecido aun las tormentas de la vida. Es importante para los cristianos, entonces, a luchar en
seguir y en promover el camino de Jesús y ser comprensivos y compasivos hacia los que han luchado por salvar sus matrimonios pero no han podido. Los cristianos también necesitan defender los derechos de los mas vulnerables, especialmente
las mujeres y niños. Y en sociedades que practican la exterminación de los niños por nacer en el nombre de la “libertad” o
de “derechos” los cristianos han de ser leales a Cristo y a los vulnerables sobre toda ideología, partido político, y presiones
sociales. Los cristianos son ambos “seguidores del Camino” y ‘enseñan el camino’ con sus testimonios y ejemplos.
La lectura de hoy nos presenta tres ideas importantes:
El evangelio de Jesús ofrece a todos el camino que afirma la existencia humana y de las relaciones mas fundamentales
del matrimonio y la familia.
En contraste de las perspectivas seglares/seculares del matrimonio, los cristianos atestiguan con sus propios ejemplos
una visión y practica del matrimonio y la vida familiar que es sana y virtuosa, guiada por la fe, la esperanza y el amor.
Los cristianos han de apoyar personalmente, moralmente y en el desarrollo socio-político de la sociedad las familias y el
matrimonio. Los cristianos han especialmente de apoyar y defender a los mas vulnerables entre nosotros, como los niños
por nacer, a pesar de toda oposición.
Para la reflexión personal:
¿Cómo son mi perspectivas y actitudes sobre el matrimonio y la familia informadas y formadas por el Evangelio y por la
perspectiva católica?
¿Cómo atestiguo personalmente sobre el valor del matrimonio y la familia, aun que en mi propio caso lucho o pienso
que he perdido la lucha?
¿Cómo apoyo los matrimonios, las familias, los niños, y los niños por nacer?

con velas y oraremos el Santo Rosario.
Caminaremos por 3/4 de una milla aquí en la
vecindad de Milwaukie seguido por la benediccion
y tiempo social en el Centro Parroquial. Recuerden
que Octubre es el mes del rosario y también es
buen momento para rezar por las familias. Todos son invitados, niños,

Encargar una misa por el alma de un difunto
Encargar una misa por el alma de un difunto es lo más
sublime que puedes hacer ante Dios para ayudarla a
salir del purgatorio, ser libre de sus penas y poder
gozar de la gloria eterna. Una práctica habitual es encargar la celebración de una misa en cada aniversario
del fallecimiento de un ser querido.
Si quieres que una de las misas se ofrece por tu
intención o algún querido difunto, favor de venir a la
oficina. Se pide donativo de $10.

Liturgia de la Palabra para niños
Se acordaran que durante el año escolar damos
la oportunidad a los niños pequeños de salir
durante la misa y reunirse en el Centro para
escuchar las lecturas de una manera mas
sencilla y hacer una actividad. Queremos volver
a empezar este ministerio valioso y para eso lo
ocupamos a usted. La meta es formar un grupo
de 8 personas jóvenes y adultos para empezar
el ultimo domingo de Septiembre. Damos
entrenamiento y capacitación. Debe de ser
mayo de 18 años para ser el líder de este
ministerio. Favor de comunicarse con Leticia en
la oficina si desea ayudar.
Eventos del Catecismo
Solicitamos ayudantes para planear y formar los
eventos del Catecismo y Educación Religiosa
de este año. Si su hijo esta registrado para
aprender acerca de la fe Católica este año en
San Juan Bautista y usted quiere formar parte
del Comité de Educación Religiosa favor de
unirte a nosotros. Puede compartir su interés

Administracion
empieza … con la
ORACION!
Tenemos disponible los “Pequeños Libros
Colorados” de meditacion basado en los cuatro
Evangelios. Estos reflexiones de seis minutos
siguen el mismo format que las que usamos
para el Adviento y la Cuaresma. Siguen la
misma idealogia de administracion. La manera
de orar en estos libritos son igual a la forma
Antigua de oracion llamado lectio divina (lectura
divina). Confome terminas un Evangelio,
pedimos que lo regreses a la iglesia y tomes
otra. Si desea comprar el serie de los cuatro
Evangelios o algún otro material similar favor de
llamar a la oficina.
REQUISITOS PARA EL SACRAMENTO DEL
BAUTISMO DE LOS NIÑOS
□ Una copia del acta de nacimiento del niño/a
□ Padres registrados en la parroquia ó carta de permiso
de su parroquia
□ Padres y padrinos asisten una plática pre-bautismal.
Las pláticas son en el tercero sábado del mes a las 10
de la mañana en el centro parroquial.
□ Se requiere que los padrinos sean casados por la iglesia o en el proceso de casarse con una prueba que estén
en proceso.
□ $25 cuota para la clase (incluye padres y padrinos)
□ Se debe de registrar y pagar la cla-
se en la oficina.
La clase es el tercer sábado de
cada mes a las 10am.
Los bautismos son el primer
sábado de cada mes a las 10:00am.
