He anchors the weeknight sportscasts, and the station’s extensive Miami Dolphins coverage. Catholic Parish of St. John Neumann In the name of the Father… Let us listen to the Word of the God: (Luke 19:1-9) Let us pray; Lord Jesus, with Mary and Joseph you formed a Holy Family: remain in our home, that we may know you as our guest and honor you as our head. We pray… “Lord, hear us.” Lord Jesus, you had no place to lay your head, but in the spirit of poverty accepted the hospitality of your friends: grant that through our help the homeless may obtain proper housing. We pray …”Lord, hear us.” Lord Jesus, open our hearts to you and to one another: may your peace be upon all of us who live here and all who enter here. We pray… “Lord, Hear us.” Lord, bless this home and all who inhabit it. Fill us with the light of Christ, that our concern for others may reflect your love. May Christ Jesus dwell with us, Keep us from all harm and make us one in mind and heart, now and forever. St. Faustina’s feast day is October 5. Divine Mercy Sunday is the First Sunday of Easter. Additional information can be found at www.thedivinemercy.org. Page 3 November 29, 2015 Catholic Parish of St. John Neumann PASTOR’S REFLECTION First Sunday of Advent November 29, 2015 Dear Friends, The beginning of Advent is a good time to take inventory of our lives (examination of conscience). We thank God for the points of light in our lives. We also reflect on any darkness in our ,lives...and invite God’s hope and peace to lessen the darkness. We pray with today’s Psalm, “to you, O Lord I left up my soul.” in this way we will be ready for the Lords return and ever vigilant because we give flesh to “the Lord of justice” each and every day. Be assured of my prayers for you and for your dear ones, particularly during this holy season of Advent. May the good Lord bless you with wisdom and peace. Please pray for me. In Christ, Msgr. Pablo A. Navarro ADVENT: A CALL TO MERCY MERCY IS HOPE Show us Lord your love.. Alleluia verse When these things signs begin to happen, stand erect and raise your heads…” Luke 21:28 Pope Francis chose December 8, 2015 to open the Year of Mercy because that day marks the fiftieth anniversary of the closing of Vatican II. Just as the Council looked to renew the church, Pope Francis is proclaiming that mercy is the key to the church’s continuing renewal in this “new phase of her history”. The Holy Year will end on the feast of Christ the King, whom Francis asks, “:to pour out his mercy, so that everyone may work together to build a brighter future.” These reflections are intended to help us do that. First Sunday of Advent Mercy is the hope that Advent holds out to us: God’s mercy to humans, and human’s mercy to one another. God fulfills his promise by giving and teaching mercy. Paul prays, “May the Lord make you increase and abound in love for one another and for all.” Our well being depends on showing mercy to every human being. The Gospel warns, “Beware that your hearts do not become drowsy from …the anxieties of daily life. Our preoccupation with making a good living can distract us from showing mercy to the poor and the spiritually unenlightened. PPI MSGR. NAVARRO WE MUST FORGIVE IN ORDER TO LIVE FREELY TUESDAY DECEMBER 15, ROOM 102-103 7:29 P.M. Like the official in the Gospel with the unrepayable debt,” we are all sinners totally indebted to God for the gift of forgiveness and salvation. If God dealt with us strictly on the basis of justice, there would be no hope for us. Therefore, God’s mercy should awaken in us a similar mercy in our dealings with one another. To forgive is to acknowledge that only love can heal our wounded relationships with one another.
