Scripture reflection for Second Sunday of Advent . Matthew 3:1-12
On this second Sunday of Advent, as
we become more comfortable and cozy
in the darkness and coolness of the
evening, and maybe as we sip a cup of
hot tea, the voice of John the Baptist
wakes us up and a shiver goes down our
spine. “You brood of vipers! Repent,
the kingdom is at hand.” He asks us to
repent from doing what is wrong; but
John doesn’t leave us shivering in the
waters muddied by our imperfections,
but gives us a hope: “the one coming
after me will baptize you with the Holy
Spirit and fire.”
The prophet Isaiah dreams of justice
and rightfulness…where the wolf and
the lamb will be friends….. This must
be our vision: a vision of harmony
where creation will once again be in
balance. This Sunday we are summoned to have a deep respect for human rights as we work together for the
care of the environment, respect for the
land, justice for those in need, and
openness to differences.
En este segundo domingo de Adviento,
a medida que nos volvemos más cómodos y acogedores en la oscuridad y frescura de la noche, y tal vez mientras
bebemos una taza de té caliente, la voz
de Juan el Bautista nos despierta. -¡Es

"el que viene en pos de mí os bautizará
con el Espíritu Santo y el fuego".El
profeta Isaías sueña con justicia y rectitud ... donde el lobo y el cordero serán
amigos ... Esta debe ser nuestra visión:
una visión de armonía donde la
creación volverá a estar en equilibrio.
Este domingo estamos llamados a tener
un profundo respeto por los derechos
humanos mientras trabajamos juntos
por el cuidado del medio ambiente, el
respeto por la tierra, la justicia para los
necesitados y la apertura a las diferencias.

The Pacific Coast Walk for Life, a Pro Life March, is scheduled in
San Francisco on Saturday, January 21st. The Knights of Columbus have organized a bus for the event. The bus will leave St. Eugene's at 8:00 a.m. and go directly to Saint Mary's Cathedral where
Archbishop Cordelone will be celebrating 9:30am Mass. After
Mass, participants will walk the few blocks to Civic Center where
the Walk for Life rally will occur. At 1:30pm, the Walk down Market
Street begins. Afterwards, participants will walk the few block to our
awaiting bus which will return everyone to St. Eugene's in the late
afternoon. The cost is $25 per person (Priests, Nuns, Seminarians
ride for free but must register). If you are interested send a check
and your contact information to Walk for Life 3485D Airway Dr,
Santa Rosa, CA 95403. MONEY MUST BE RECEIVED NO LATER

Christmas Giving tree
We have less than 2 weeks to fulfill children’s requests for Christmas gifts on the Giving Tree. If you
can help, take a tag, get a gift, wrap it, attach the tag
and return it either to the parish office during the
week or leave it under the tree when you come to
mass on the weekend. All gifts must be returned by
Tues December 13th to be distributed starting December 14th. Donations of money and time are also
very welcome. Help make the birthday of Jesus a
special day of love and caring for each child in our
community.
