St. Vincent de Paul Meeting to Discuss the Harmful Effects Predatory Lending May 27, 6:45-8PM, Pastoral Center, Conference Room 202 The predatory lending business is thriving, causing untold pain to thousands of individuals and families. Unreasonable and excessive economic tactics used by payday lenders, rent-to-own companies and predatory mortgage lenders and brokers must not be tolerated. Residents of Plano, Richardson and surrounding cities are trying to create a grassroots movement to bring awareness to the harm of payday and auto-title loans. We’re inviting parishioners to learn more about how these “predatory lenders” are legally able to charge over 500% interest rates in Texas; how we can work together to help our cities take action and how we can provide alternatives for our communities. Dear Parents, This is the end of our Faith Formation learning year, our last Sunday classes are May 18 (Wednesday classes ended on May 14). The students celebrate a year of growing in our Catholic faith along with their catechists. Everyone learned something new – as all of us will continue to learn about our Catholic faith our entire lives. You and your child might consider marking the end of this learning year with the following prayer: Dear God, May everything we learned this past year make our Catholic faith stronger; make us willing to share our faith with others; make us more generous and forgiving; and make us more peaceful in all our dealings with others. We ask this in the name of Jesus Christ, your Son, our Lord and Savior. Amen. Have a wonderful summer. It is with LION PRIDE that St. Mark Catholic School announces our official alumni network, Lifetime Lions! More than 1,400 students have graced our halls and have gone on to be successful in high school, college, and in their careers. It is our goal to form a network of valued alumni so that we can all stay in touch and form an ongoing and mutually beneficial relationship. New opportunities for alumni are being developed, including the Lions Mentor Lions program, allowing alumni to return to St. Mark and share their expertise and experiences with our current students. Perhaps we have an alum who is good at Robotics and would like to assist our Robotics team, or a current high school student who excels at math and would spend time with one of our math classes, or a basketball player who could work with one of our school teams. It’s a great chance to give back, and for those in high school, to earn valuable service hours. We want to be sure to include all of our alumni in these opportunities. If you know a St. Mark alum, please direct them to our website to register and learn more. Each graduate who registers will receive a numbered Lifetime Lions membership certificate, and will be placed on our mailing list to receive future alumni communications. 8th grade parents: Be sure to register your 2014 graduate now. Let’s all welcome our alumni back to the St. Mark family with LION PRIDE!
