¡Vivan los verbos “-ar”!
Here is a list of a few very common “-ar” verbs in Spanish.
1. * alquilar = to rent
26. participar = to participate
2. arreglar = to tidy up
27. * pasar = to go past
3. ayudar = to help
28. * pasear = to stroll/to take a ride or a walk
4. bailar = to dance
29. * practicar = to practice
5. calificar = to grade
30. preparar = to prepare
6. cantar = to sing
31. pintar = to paint
7. cocinar = to cook
32. preguntar = to question/to ask a question
8. * comprar = to buy
33. robar = to rob/to steal
9. * descansar = to relax/to rest

This is just a small percent of the verbs that exist as regular “ar” verbs in Spanish! The
wonderful thing about them is they are totally predictable in conjugation! They all
follow the same rule and pattern!
In order to conjugate this category of verbs, you need to follow these steps.
STEP ONE: Take the “ar” off the end of the verb.
STEP TWO: Use what is left (the stem) to begin all of the six forms.
STEP THREE: Add the necessary endings for each form.
Example: “Hablar” (to speak)
STEP ONE: Take off the “ar”.

Using this formula, you can now conjugate and use any regular “-ar” verb that exists in
Spanish…and hundreds of these kinds of verbs exist!! ¡Olé!
