CONTINUALLY PRAISING GOD
CONTINUAMENTE ALABANDO A DIOS
In both the first reading and
the Gospel we are told about
Christ’s glorious ascension into
heaven. Paul’s letter to the
Ephesians reminds us that
Christ has been seated at
God’s right hand in heaven,
above every choir of angels.
There might be a temptation
to stay at an awed distance
from Jesus Christ. However,
the tone of today’s readings is
far from that temptation. The
tone is exultant and the message is urgent. We are to be his witnesses, and the Gospel describes the first witnesses this way: “[W]ith great joy . . . they
were continually in the temple praising God” (Luke 24:53).
How can we continually praise God? The answer can be found
in the second reading, in which Paul prays that God will give us a
“Spirit of wisdom and revelation” in order to know Christ clearly
(Ephesians 1:17). We cannot stand at a distance. We are to be
enlightened and empowered.

Hemos de ser sus testigos, y el Evangelio describe a los primeros

¿Cómo podemos alabar a Dios continuamente? La respuesta se
encuentra en la segunda lectura, en la cual Pablo pide a Dios que
nos conceda un “espíritu de sabiduría y de reflexión” para conocer a
Cristo claramente (Efesios 1:17). No podemos mantenernos a distancia. Vamos a ser iluminados y fortalecidos.

Standup
for Kids has a
street outreach team which literally goes to the streets and locates homeless, street kids and
at-risk youth. Through extensive
training, the street team can identify these
kids from the general population because
they often blend into the crowd for their own safety.

Street outreach encompasses several tasks including providing food. Suggested items are:
Easy open, individual servings of:
● Entree (Ravioli, Chicken Soup, Chili, etc.)
● Fruit Cup (Apple Sauce, Fruit cocktail) ● Pudding Cup
● Bottled Water ● Water Additive (Lemonade, etc.)
● Granola bar/Crackers/Chips/Peanuts ● Juice Box
● Sanitary Hand Wipes ● Napkin/Plastic Spoon
Throughout this month of May, you can place these donations in the basket next to our Mercy Center table in the

Deficit Reduction Collection
NEXT Weekend
As you can see in the Financial Report on page two of
this bulletin, we ended April “in the red” (–$4,105.85)
while for the year-to-date, we are still “in the
black” ($2,431.81). Our being ahead is in part because of the Easter Collection at the end of March.
We don’t have another major collection through the end of
this Fiscal Year, so our reserves are very low for covering expenses not met with current contributions. Next weekend’s
Deficit Fund Collection is designed to help us generate sufficient income to cover our recurring expenses.

Low Gluten Hosts Available
We have a supply of Low Gluten hosts for those who
have celiac disease. (These are not gluten-free because they would not be a valid substance for the
Eucharist.)
Persons wishing to receive a Low Gluten host should
let the sacristan (the person who sets up for Mass) or
the priest presider know before Mass begins. A host, isolated in
its own packaging, will be added to the hosts to be consecrated
at Mass. This host will be with the priest distributing communion,
so the person requesting this type of host needs to go to the
priest for communion. When in front of the priest, indicate your
need for the Low Gluten host. So as not to contaminate the host
with wheat particles on his fingers from the other hosts, he will
give you the host in the packet.
If, for whatever reason, a Low Gluten host has not been consecrated, reception of the Precious Blood is a gluten-free option
to receive the fullness of the Eucharist in the same way as receiving only the consecrated host is. While reception of both species is a fuller expression of Christ in the Eucharist, receiving
either species by itself is to share in the fullness of the Eucharist.
This brief but dynamic course is recommended for
students before the first year of college.

Hostias Bajas en Glúten Disponibles
Tenemos un suministro de hostias con bajo contenido de gluten
para aquellos que padecen de celiac. (Estas no son completamente sin gluten, ya que no serían una sustancia válida para la Eucaristía.)
Las personas que deseen recibir una hostia reducida en gluten,
deben decir al sacristán (la persona que prepara para la Misa) o
al sacerdote que preside, antes de que empiece la Misa. Se agregará
una hostia, empacada por separado, para ser consagrada en la Misa.
El sacerdote será el que la distribuya durante la comunión, por lo que
la persona que solicita este tipo de hostia tiene que ir al cura para la
comunión. Cuando esté delante del cura, la persona deberá indicar su
necesidad de recibir la hostia de gluten reducido. A fin de no contaminar dicha hostia con partículas de trigo de las otras hostias en sus
dedos, él le dará la hostia en el paquete.
Si, por cualquier motivo, no se ha consagrado una hostia baja en
gluten, el recibir la Preciosa Sangre es una opción libre de gluten para
recibir la plenitud de la Eucaristía en la misma forma que si reciben
sólo la hostia consagrada. Mientras que la recepción de ambas es una
expresión más plena de Cristo en la Eucaristía, el recibir una sola, es
participar plenamente de la Eucaristía.
Este curso, breve pero dinámico, se recomienda para estudiantes antes de iniciar el primer año de la universidad.
