The Cardinal Is Coming
Cardinal Dolan has the custom of visiting
parishes in the Archdiocese during the seasons of
Advent and Lent. He is especially interested in
visiting parishes where there have been Making All
Things New mergers of faith communities and will be
coming to St. John-Visitation Parish to celebrate the
Saturday December 12th 5:00 pm Mass.
The last time the Archbishop of New York
visited Kingsbridge was for the 125th anniversary of
St. John's Parish. We look forward to Cardinal
Dolan's upcoming pastoral visit.
Another Advent Season upon Us
This weekend marks the beginning of the
Season of Advent, the start of the Church’s liturgical
year in which our Sunday Gospel readings will
primarily be taken from the Gospel of St. Luke. The
word Advent is derived from the Latin adventus, the
past participle of the Latin verb advenire, to come to
(ad, to + venire, come to). The liturgical season of
Advent may be described as having a two-fold
quality:
1. A sacred time to prepare for Christmas in
which we recall the historical first coming of Jesus
Christ into human history.
2. A special season in which that
remembrance directs our hearts and minds to await
and prepare for the second coming of Jesus Christ at
the end of time
May we use the rhythms of the Church's
liturgical seasons to open ourselves to the various
ways that God communicates with us, grow closer in
deeply following our Lord Jesus Christ, and allow the
Holy Spirit to transform us.
"It Is In Giving That We Receive"
Your generous response of canned goods,
non-perishable items, gift cards, and monetary
donations to the Thanksgiving Food Drive for the
Kingsbridge Community is greatly appreciated.
Christmas Charity Drive
With another Christmas season approaching,
our parish will begin accepting donations of new
toys, gift cards, and new clothing for children, youth,
and families assisted by the outreach mission of
Good Shepherd Services. The age range is from
newborn to teenagers.
New clothing for teenagers will gratefully be
appreciated along with new, unwrapped toys for
young children, both boys and girls. Donations may
be dropped off at the church during weekend
Masses and during the week at the parish pastoral
center.
"We Are All Immigrants"
The Social Action Committee invites
parishioners to participate in an Advent Reflection
"We Are All Immigrants" on Sunday December 6th
beginning at 1:00 pm at the St. John-Visitation Parish
Pastoral Center. Spanish translation provided along
with light refreshments.
Flea Market Next Saturday
The monthly Flea Market will be held this
coming Saturday December 5th at the Godwin
Terrace School location from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm.
Join us for bargain buys, hidden treasures, good
food, and meeting our local area neighbors.
Religious Christmas Cards
As a way to promote the true reason for the
holy season and "To Keep Christ in Christmas",
boxed sets of assorted religious Christmas cards,
both in English and Spanish are available for
purchase at the St. John-Visitation Parish Pastoral
Center. Cost is $5.00 per box.

As you may have noticed recently, the back
page of our parish bulletin has increased with those
who place advertisements. The publication of our
weekly parish bulletin is made possible through
them. Please consider patronizing and using the

Did You Know?
St. Andrew whom the Church remembers
annually on November 30th is the brother of Simon
Peter. The Gospel accounts mention two sets of
brothers: Simon (Peter) and Andrew, James and John
(the sons of Zebedee). The Gospel of St. John depicts
Andrew as originally a disciple of St. John the Baptist
who recognizes the significance of the Baptist’s
reference about Jesus “Look, here is the Lamb of
God” and goes to his brother, Simon stating: “We
have found the Messiah.”(John 1:35-42)
According to tradition like his brother, he
too was crucified. Unlike St. Peter, he was not
crucified “upside down” but on an X-shaped cross.
St. Andrew is the patron saint of Scotland, fishers,
and those who are single.

El Cardenal Viene
Cardenal Dolan tiene la costumbre de visitar
las parroquias de la Arquidiócesis durante los
tiempos de Adviento y Cuaresma. Él está
especialmente interesado en visitar las parroquias
donde ha habido todas las cosas nuevas y las
fusiones de las comunidades de fe y viene para
nuestra Parroquia San-Juan Visitación a celebrar la

Otro Tiempo de Adviento Sobre Nosotros
Este fin de semana marca el comienzo de la
temporada de Adviento, el inicio del año litúrgico de
la Iglesia en el que principalmente se tomen las
lecturas del Evangelio Domingo del Evangelio de San
Lucas. La palabra Adviento se deriva del latín
adventus, el participio pasado del verbo latino
advenire, para llegar a (ad, a + venire, venir a). El
tiempo litúrgico de Adviento puede ser descrita
como teniendo una cualidad doble:
1. Un tiempo sagrado para prepararse para
la Navidad en la que recordamos la histórica primera
venida de Jesucristo en la historia humana.
2. Una temporada especial en el que ese
recuerdo dirige nuestros corazones y mentes para
esperar y prepararse para la segunda venida de
Jesucristo al final de los tiempos
Podemos usar los ritmos de tiempos
litúrgicos de la Iglesia para abrirnos a las diversas
formas en que Dios se comunica con nosotros,
acercarse más profundamente después de nuestro
Señor Jesucristo, y permitir que el Espíritu Santo nos
transforme.

Evento de Caridad Navideño
Con otra temporada de Navidad se acerca,
nuestra parroquia comenzará a aceptar donaciones
de juguetes nuevos, tarjetas de regalo y ropa nueva
para los niños, jóvenes y familias atendidas por la
misión de difusión de Good Shepherd Services. El
rango de edad es desde recién nacidos hasta
adolescentes. Nueva ropa para adolescentes será
agradecido apreciar junto con juguetes nuevos sin
envolver para niños pequeños, los niños y las niñas.
Las donaciones pueden ser dejadas en la iglesia
durante las misas de fin de semana y durante la
semana en el centro pastoral parroquial.
"Somos todos inmigrantes"
El Comité de Acción Social invita a los
feligreses a participar en una reflexión de Adviento
"Todos somos inmigrantes", el domingo 06 de
diciembre a partir de las 1:00 pm en la Parroquia
Centro Pastoral San Juan-Visitación. Traducción en
español proporcionado junto con refrescos.
Mercado de Pulgas El próximo sábado
El mercado de pulgas mensual se llevará a
cabo el próximo sábado 5 de diciembre en el lugar
Godwin Terraza Escuela 9:00 am-4:00 pm.
Acompáñenos para compras de ganga, tesoros
ocultos, buena comida, y conocer a nuestros vecinos
de la zona.
Tarjetas de Navidad Religiosa
Como una forma de promover el verdadero

¿Sabías?
San Andrés que la Iglesia recuerda cada año el 30
de noviembre es el hermano de Simón Pedro. Los relatos
de los Evangelios mencionan dos parejas de hermanos:
Simón (Pedro) y Andrés, Santiago y Juan (los hijos de
Zebedeo). El Evangelio de San Juan representa Andrew
originalmente un discípulo de San Juan el Bautista, que
reconoce la importancia de la referencia del Bautista
sobre Jesús: "Mira, aquí está el Cordero de Dios" y se va a
su hermano, Simón, declarando: "Tenemos encontrado al
Mesías "(Juan 1: 35-42).
Según la tradición, como su hermano, él también
fue crucificado. A diferencia de San Pedro, que no fue
crucificado "boca abajo", pero en una cruz en forma de X.
