About a couple of years ago, Dimitris Hristoulas, a pensioner
About a couple of years ago, Dimitris Hristoulas, a pensioner pharmacist, “as if ready since long” like a famous verse goes and like bloggers wrote later, went to his landlady to pay utilities etc, told her he would be absent for a while for medical examinations, went to Syntagma square, sat under a tree and shot himself. In his pockets they found a suicide note going more or less like “My generation is considered responsible for the present condition of Greece. Also my generation is not the one to take on arms first and resist. Young men should be first but this doesn’t mean that the first casualty cannot be someone on the next row of fighters. I choose to become that kind of first casualty, I don’t have to first wait until I look for food in the dustbins. I hope that the next casualty won’t be due to suicide” . In Spain Joaquín Carbonell wrote for the above Dimitris the famous song Canción para Dimitris Song for Dimitrtis, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T0upnAY0D4I Refugio de palomas Refuge of pigeons Luz violeta de pincel Brush touch of purple light La mañana griega se sintió volar The Greek morning felt like flying Serena la cigarra Se aturdió bajo el mantel Que guardaba un desayuno tan vulgar Calm, the cicada Astonished under the tablecloth That kept such a common breakfast La higuera vio la fuente Y brotó luz de la mile Son las ocho y los dioses ya no están The fig tree saw the fountain And light sprouted from the honey It is eight and the gods are gone Dimitris es agudo Un anciano de papel Una voz que clama al mundo sin gritar Dimitris is sharp An old man according to his papers A voice that claims to the world without a shout A veces el destino nos empuja hacia el final Rompiendo las señales de aparcar Un tiro no es un ruido es como una cathedral Que se esfuma entre la niebla de crystal Sometimes destiny pushes us towards the end Breaking no-parking signs A shot is not a noise it is like a cathedral That fades in the glassy fog Dimitris busca el árbol Y Sintagma es el lugar Al frente el Parlamento Nacional Dimitris looks for the tree And Syntagma is the place In front of the National Parliament Empuña una pistola En un gesto tan vulgar Que no llama la atención del personal He holds a pistol In such a common gesture That does not call the attention of anybody “No quiero su limosna Hoy me rindo sin luchar No buscaré comida en un corral”. “I do not want any charity today I give up without a fight I will not look for food in the garbage”. Los cielos se cerraron Y la tierra fue a llorar Era abril en cada punto cardinal The skies closed And the land started to cry It was April in every cardinal point A veces el destino nos empuja hacia el final Rompiendo las señales de aparcar Un tiro no es un ruido es como una cathedral Que se esfuma entre la niebla de crystal Sometimes destiny pushes us towards the end Breaking no-parking signs A shot is not a noise it is like a cathedral That fades in the glassy fog A veces el destino nos empuja hacia el final Rompiendo las señales de aparcar El portavoz del Fondo Monetario Gerry Rice Confesó que estuvo a punto de llorar Sometimes destiny pushes us towards the end Breaking no-parking signs The spokesperson of the IMF Gerry Rice confessed that he almost cried. 1 As Greeks and as DJs we had added our own expression of gratitude through a singlink*, but here let’s borrow the fantastic melody of the above song to make the point we had said we would about the start, end, and interim of life in situations, conditions, times etc where the photos we saw of dawn, sunset and interim were eloquent. The following paragraphs can be read and/or sung in the melody of the “Canción para Dimitris” : A paradise we know since cradle is our mother’s tone of voice when she says sweet nothings just to see us smile And if we’re very lucky our deathbed is again like that till we start to dream forever all we loved And if we are unlucky all that just remain ideal but we can forgive life saying that she tried But if our life in the interim feels like hell then we think twice if we’ve met what just deserves Life’s full contempt continued in the next pdf… *In the beginning of the following link** • Two letters about Canto General at Herodeion.pdf **The youtube link we had used there had the translation in English as subtitles, but unfortunately the link has been deactivated. That’s why in the previous page we included a translation in the text. 2
