May 16-18, 2014
Holy Name Passionist Retreat Center invites
the women of Holy Ghost Parish to a weekend
retreat, Friday, May 16 to Sunday, May 18.
The Retreat Theme this season is: Hope Happens. The retreat talks are based on a wonderful book, How Big is Your God which is available in the retreat
center Book Store. Each retreatant has a private room with a
bathroom. There is time for prayer, informative talks by members of the Holy Name pastoral staff, the Sacrament of Reconciliation, Mass on Saturday and Sunday, and time for sharing
with old and new friends. Come enjoy the beautiful gardens
which provide a quiet place for rest and renewal. You will truly

This year we will celebrate Mother’s
Day next Sunday May 11th. One of the
nicest ways to show how much you care
is to enroll that special person in the
Mother’s Mass League. Those enrolled in the league will
share in a Mass each week from this Mother’s Day to
next Mother’s Day. You may enroll your mother, living
or deceased, grandmother, aunt, sister or that very special
friend. Enrollment cards are available in the rectory office.

2014-2015 REGISTRATION
Holy Ghost School is now accepting new students for the 2014-2015 school year. Families
may pick up the registration packet at any time
between 7:30 am - 3:30 pm in the school office,
Monday through Friday. There are openings on
all grade levels from PK3 through the 8th Grade. Forms for
tuition assistance are also available in the school office.
World Day of Prayer for Vocations
Next Sunday, May 11, 2014, is
World Day of Prayer for Vocations.
At all masses we will pray especially
for those men and women who have
served and are serving God’s people
as priests and religious, as well as for
an increase in vocations to the priesthood and religious life. In preparation for next week’s mass
take some time this week to remember those priests and religious who have been influential in your life. Think of someone
you know whom you think God may be calling to priesthood
and religious life today. Pray for these people during this week
and at mass next Sunday.

¡RECONOZCAN A JESÚS
San Pedro nos habla dos veces hoy. En la primera lectura, escuchamos una parte de su sermón el día de Pentecostés; en la segunda,
parte de su primera carta. Antes, un pescador asustado y sin mucha educación que a menudo decía lo que no debía, ahora dice lo
que él sabe es la verdad. Todo lo que Jesús había dicho ahora tiene sentido. Su muerte y resurrección eran parte del plan de Dios y
nuestra fe y esperanza se pueden centrar en Dios. El Evangelio de hoy nos relata la historia de la caminata de Jesús hacia Emaús
con dos de los discípulos. Asustados, tristes y confusos, ninguno de los dos reconoció a Jesús, quien les dice lo mismo que escuchamos de Pedro en la lectura anterior: todo eso sucedió como parte del plan de Dios. Al final, los discípulos reconocieron a
Jesús por la misma acción que nosotros debemos reconocerlo— al partir el Pan.
LIGA DE LAS MISAS PARA LAS MADRES
El 11 de Mayo, estaremos celebrando el día
de las Madres. Una de las maneras de
mostrar el amor a esa persona tan especial es
inscribiéndola en la liga de misas. Todas las
madres inscritas serán incluidas en una misa
cada semana durante todo el año. Usted puede inscribir a su
mamá, abuelas, tías y amigas vivas o difuntas. Puede recoger
su tarjeta de inscripción en la rectoría de la iglesia.

Día Mundial de la Oración por las Vocaciones
El próximo Domingo de Pascua, celebramos el Dia Mundial de la Oración por
las Vocaciones. Este es el Domingo del
Buen Pastor. La escritura este día nos
invita a escuchar la voz del Buen Pastor
y responderle. Este llamado es para
cada cristiano. Con toda la diversidad de voces de
nuestro mundo actual es bien difícil saber a quien seguir y como hacerlo. Oramos al Buen Pastor para que
nos guíe por una vida de servicio. Y le pedimos que
bendiga a hombres y mujeres para que escuchen el
llamado a servirle como Sacerdotes, Diáconos, hermanas y hermanos. Los Sacerdotes y religiosos de mañana
están aquí en nuestra parroquia, entre nosotros ahora.
Primeras Comuniones
Muchas feliciades a todos los niños y niñas que durante todos los
Sábados del Mes de Mayo
estarán recibiendo su Primera
Comunión. Le pedimos a Dios por ellos y sus familias
ahora que se están preparando para este Sacramento.
TRADICIONES DE NUESTRA FE
El 3 de mayo en el sur de Ilocos, Filipinas, se celebra la fiesta del Cristo milagroso o Apo Lacay como lo llaman los filipinos. Esta
imagen fue encontrada dentro de una caja que flotaba en el mar, junto con la Virgen Milagrosa. Fueron unos pescadores quienes
hicieron el hallazgo. Los pescadores eran de los pueblos de Badoc y Sinait y decidieron llevarse el Cristo a Badoc, pero no lograron
moverlo. Una vez que decidieron llevarse al Cristo a Sinait, la imagen se hizo muy ligera de peso, por lo cual se piensa que Cristo
deseaba estar en Sinait. Este Cristo negro recuerda a los Cristos milagrosos de Latinoamérica, como el Santo Cristo de Esquipulas
(Guatemala), los Cristos de Tila, Chalma y Otaltitlán (México), el Señor de los Milagros (Perú) y otros. Probablemente se trata de
una evangelización española ya que en 1595, el rey Felipe II mandó varios Cristos negros a los cristianos indígenas de América. En
todo caso, estos Cristos han resultado milagrosos gracias a la fe del pueblo, porque como dice Jesús: nuestra fe es la que nos salva
(Marcos 5:34; 10:46-52).

En el mes de Junio haremos la registración para Bautizos para niños mayores
de 7 años, la Primera Comunión (7-18 años) y la Confirmación ( 16 años ó
que esté en el grado 10) . Las registraciones serán los Domingos 15, 22 y 29 de
Junio de las 3:00 pm a las 5:00 pm. Miércoles 11, 18 y 25 y Jueves 12, 19 y 26
de Junio de las 3:00 a las 5:00 pm. Necesita traer una copia del certificado de
nacimiento para los Bautizos y para la Comunión y Confirmación una copia del
acta de bautizo.
