To Whom It May Concern:
On November 5, 2014 the Silver Lake Neighborhood Council voted to approve the following
statement.
The Silver Lake Neighborhood Council recognizes the legitimacy of the autonomous zone in Chiapas,
Mexico held by the indigenous Mayan group the Zapatistas. We stand in solidarity with the Zapatista’s
intentions of a creating a world that adheres to principals of horizontal government. We recognize and
celebrate their leadership in working toward a living model of dignity, democracy, and justice.
In response to the May 2, 2014 paramilitary attack on the Zapatista community of La Realidad and the
killing of community member and educational promoter (teacher) Compañero Galeano, we the Silver
Lake Neighborhood Council, publicly condemn this attack and killing, in the strongest terms possible.
We also call on all other Los Angeles Neighborhood Councils and others LA City representatives to
condemn this attack and killing and express solidarity.

El 5 de Noviembre del 2014, el Consejo Vecinal de Silver Lake voto a favor de aprobar el siguiente
comunicado:
El Consejo Vecinal de Silver Lake reconoce la legitimidad de la zona autónoma en Chiapas, México
tomado por el grupo indígena Maya los Zapatistas. El Consejo está en solidaridad con las intenciones
de los Zapatistas de crear un mundo que se adhiere a los principios de un gobierno
horizontal. Reconocemos y celebramos su liderazgo en el trabajo hacia un modelo vivo de dignidad,
democracia y justicia
En respuesta al ataque paramilitar del 2 de Mayo, 2014 de la comunidad Zapatista de La Realidad y el
asesinato del miembro de la comunidad y promotor educativo (maestro) Compañero Galeano,
nosotros, el Consejo Vecinal de Silver Lake condenamos públicamente este ataque y asesinato, en los
términos más enérgicos posibles. También, pedimos a los demás Consejos Vecinales de Los Angeles y
otros representantes de la Ciudad que condenen este ataque y asesinato y expresen su solidaridad.
