We begin this New Year with the opportunity to commit to follow Jesus
Christ more closely. Bishop Garcia invites us to place our treasure where it
matters, to love one another and care for one another in many ways.
I hope you will include the Bishop's Annual Ministries Appeal 2016 (AMA)
in your plan this year to share your financial resources to build up the local
Church and care for those in need. The AMA presents an opportunity to
participate actively in the mission of the Church throughout the Diocese of
Monterey, providing services and programs to serve people both within and
outside our Parish.
Once our parish goal to the diocese of $24,400 is paid, all additional funds
will be returned to our parish to address our most important need, the church
roof.
I ask you to reflect during the week on your own blessings and the
emergency need of our Church roof. In light of this important need, I ask all
parishioners to honor St. Patrick’s with a special pledge of $1,000 or more. I
hope you will participate this year. Your support is a great
encouragement to the Diocese of Monterey and to St. Patrick’s Parish.

CHILDREN AND YOUNG PEOPLE
Parents and caregivers, please do not allow your children to leave your
sight while at church. Do not allow them to go to the restroom or out to
the car alone. Children need to be supervised by a parent or adult at all
times while attending any church related function. Children should
never be left unsupervised in a car.
BIBLE STUDY – WOMEN IN THE NEW TESTAMENT
The new series on the Bible has already started. This is an 8 session course
about what it means to be touched by Jesus, and the meaning of discipleship
through the lives of the women who lived in the first generation of Christianity.
Meetings are held the second and fourth Thursday of each month. Each
session lasts 90 minutes. This course will conclude on June 9th. Cost of
materials for the course is $10. Signups are at the parish office.
Come join us as we explore the foundations of our faith.
CHILDREN’S MASS
We welcome the CCD children and their parents at the 11:00 am
English Mass every first Sunday of the month.
DO YOU KNOW ? In addition to abstinence, fasting is to be observed
by all Catholics between the ages of 18-59 years (inclusive). On Ash Wednesday and Good Friday, one full meal is allowed. Two smaller meals, sufficient
to maintain strength, may be taken according to one’s needs, but together they
should not equal another full meal. Eating between meals is not permitted, but
liquids are allowed. Note: Those who are unable to observer the above regulations due to ill health or other serious reasons are urged to practice other forms
of self-denial that are suitable to their conditions.
The Gospel’s BeaƟng Heart

February always seems to point us in the direc on of love. Images of hearts
abound and our stores encourage us to ponder roman c and family love,
invi ng us to express our affec ons through cards, candy and flowers. My
husband and I enjoy celebra ng and sending valen nes to our six
grandchildren.
The secular celebra on of love is nice when celebrated on a modest level, but
it doesn’t transform rela onships or lives. We know that only God can do that.
There is nothing modest or short-term when it comes to the power of God’s
love and mercy. Our proof is in the life, death and resurrec on of Jesus.
Recently I was re-reading Pope Francis’ document for the Extraordinary
Jubilee Year of Mercy, Misericordiae Vultus and was once again called to
pause and reflect. Pope Francis wrote, “The Church is commissioned to announce the mercy of God, the beaƟng heart of the Gospel, which in its own
way must penetrate the heart and mind of every person.” Incredible!
As a leader who is called to be a grateful steward of God’s mercy, I wanted to
explore the Gospel from this vantage point and many ques ons have arisen.
How much greater is the love I have received than I have acknowledged? How
much greater is my call to gra tude, service and generosity? Does my true
understanding only scratch the surface because it is so intertwined with the
secular culture in which I live? The image and sound of a bea ng heart is a
powerful communicator for me.
There is no doubt that the Door of Mercy has been opened and stepping
through it will mean something different for each of us. For Chris an stewards, it is much more than knowing the message of mercy; we must respond
by the way we live as Jesus’ disciples. We cannot proclaim what we have not
experienced.
Before the Door of Mercy is closed and sealed in November of this year, we
have the opportunity to encounter our own “penetra on of the heart and
mind” of God’s Mercy. Let’s journey together.

El AMA es una nueva oportunidad para participar en la Misión de la Iglesia, a
través de la Diócesis de Monterrey, incluyendo los
programas y servicios que tiene las Diócesis para ayudar a los
diferentes Ministerios que tiene dentro y fuera de la parroquia.
Una vez que la meta de 24,400 dólares, para la parroquia sea saldada, lo que
se recaude será una ayuda extraordinaria para nuestra
comunidad. El Obispo nos pide que San Patricio colabore con el y con las
necesidades de la Diócesis.
Les pido encarecidamente que nos ayuden especialmente para reparar
totalmente el techo de nuestra Iglesia, que por las lluvias tan fuertes que han
llegado, ha habido goteras y algunas tejas se están cayendo.
Les pido que reflexionen durante la semana en las bendiciones que Dios les ha
dado, Especialmente es esta necesidad de emergencia y hagan promesa de
ayudar por familia de $1,000.00 o mas.

El mes de febrero siempre parece guiarnos en la dirección del amor. Imágenes de corazones abundan y nuestras endas nos
mo van a considerar el amor román co y familiar, nos invitan a expresar nuestro afecto a través de tarjetas, dulces y flores. Mi
esposo y yo disfrutamos celebrando y enviando tarjetas de San Valen n a nuestros seis hijos.
La celebración secular del amor es bonita cuando se celebra en un nivel modesto, pero ésta no trasforma las relaciones entre
las personas, ni nuestras vidas. Nosotros sabemos que sólo Dios puede hacerlo. No hay nada modesto o a corto plazo cuando
se trata del poder del amor y de la misericordia de Dios. Nuestra evidencia está en la vida, muerte y resurrección de Jesús.
Recientemente estuve leyendo por segunda vez el documento del Papa Francisco para el Jubileo Extraordinario del Año de la
Misericordia, Misericordiae Vultus, y fui llamada nuevamente a hacer una pausa y reflexionar. El Papa Francisco escribió, “La
Iglesia está comisionada para anunciar la misericordia de Dios, el corazón palpitante del Evangelio, el cual en su propia manera
debe penetrar el corazón y la mente de cada persona.” ¡Increíble!
Como líder llamada a ser corresponsable agradecida de la misericordia de Dios, quise explorar el Evangelio desde esta posición
de ventaja, y muchas preguntas han surgido. ¿Cuánto más grande es el amor que he recibido que el que reconozco? ¿Cuánto
más grande es mi llamado a la gra tud, al servicio y a la generosidad? ¿Mi verdadero entendimiento sólo toca la superficie
porque está muy entrelazado con la cultura secular en la cual vivo? La imagen y el sonido de un corazón que palpita es un
poderoso comunicador para mí.
No hay duda de que la Puerta de la Misericordia ha sido abierta y caminar dentro de ella significará diferente para cada uno de
nosotros. Para los corresponsables cris anos, significa mucho más que conocer el mensaje de misericordia; nosotros debemos
responder a través de la manera en la que vivimos como discípulos de Jesús. Nosotros no podemos proclamar que no lo hemos
experimentado.
Antes de que la Puerta de la Misericordia sea cerrada y sellada en noviembre de este año, nosotros tenemos la oportunidad de
encontrar nuestra propia “penetración del corazón y la mente” de la misericordia de Dios. ¡Caminemos juntos!
