OUR LADY OF REFUGE CATECHIST’S TRAINING 2014 – All Catechists
are invited to the Catechist’s Training from 7 PM—9 PM in the Parish Hall. All
workshops are presented by Sr. Andrea Mendoza, SNDdeN in English and by
Lupita Vital in Spanish.
The topics and the training dates as follows:
May 13: Role of the Catechist
May 14: Methods (grades 1-6)
May 20: Activities (grades 1-6) - Sr. Andrea Mendoza, SNDdeN (English)
May 21: Activities (grades 1-6) - Sr. Andrea Mendoza, SNDdeN (Spanish)
NUESTRA SEÑORA DEL REFUGIO ENTRENAMIENTO DE CATEQUISTAS 2014 – Invitamos a todos los Catequistas al Entrenamiento de Catequistas de las 7 PM—9 PM en el salón parroquial. Los talleres serán presentados
por Hma. Andrea Mendoza, SNDdeN en ingles y por Lupita Vital en español.

The Fourth Sunday of Easter is also
known as “The Good Shepherd
Sunday.” This day is designated as
well: “World Day of Prayer for
Vocations.” And by chance Mother’s
Day this year also falls on this Sunday.
All, to certain extent, have connection to
one another.
People at the time did refer to God as
their shepherd. But one of the most
endearing images of Jesus is that of the
Good Shepherd. Although we are far
removed from a society in which
shepherding
was
a
common
occupation, we can find in the Good
Shepherd a picture which gives us a
sense of warmth and security. It’s a
picture of a God who is close by, not far
off. A God who knows us individually
and what our needs are.
Jesus says that His sheep have ears
only for the one true shepherd whose
call they recognize, whose leadership
they trust above all others. We
recognize that Jesus, the Good
Shepherd, continues to tend His flock in
a variety of very effective and tender
ways. St. John Henry Newman said
that, “Jesus is our shepherd, and the
sheep know His voice. If we are His
sheep, we will listen to Him, recognizing
Him and obeying Him.” Newman then
encouraged Christians to “follow Jesus
and long to hear His voice”. This is a
wonderful reminder for us that we must
come to know our Shepherd so
intimately. We must recognize His voice
so unmistakably, that we sense His call
in our guts and follow Him.
To hear Jesus’ voice we must be quiet.
To let Him talk, and we stop talking. So
our first vocation is not to marriage,
priesthood, religious life, or single state,
but it is to know Jesus so intimately that
when He whispers to us in silence, we
will hear His voice and follow His call.
Then, we will have all the vocations we
need.
This week, as we pray in silence to hear
Jesus’ voice, we also pray for all
pastors and mothers. May their
shepherding role help all to know and
follow our Good Shepherd Jesus to the
pasture of life and happiness.
El cuarto domingo de Pascua se conoce
también como "El Domingo del Buen
Pastor." Este es el día designado así
como el: "Día Mundial de Oración por las
Vocaciones." Y por casualidad el Día de
las Madres este año también cae en este
domingo. Todos, en cierta medida, tienen
conexión con uno a otro.
En algún momento se ha referido a Dios
como el pastor. Pero una de las imágenes
más entrañables de Jesús es la del Buen
Pastor. Aunque estamos lejos de una
sociedad en la que ser pastor fue una
ocupación común, podemos encontrar en
el Buen Pastor como una imagen que nos
da un sentido de calor y seguridad. Es
una imagen de un Dios que está cerca, no
muy lejos. Un Dios que conoce a cada
uno de nosotros y cuáles son nuestras
necesidades.
Jesús dijo que sus ovejas tienen oídos
sólo para el verdadero pastor al que ellos
reconocen, cuyos dirigentes tienen la
confianza sobre todos los demás.
Reconocemos que Jesús, el Buen Pastor,
guía a su rebaño de muchas maneras y
con eficacia. Sto. John Henry Newman
dijo que "Jesús es nuestro pastor y las
ovejas conocen su voz. Si somos sus
ovejas, le escuchamos a Él, reconociendo
en Él y la obediencia." Newman, animó a
los cristianos a "seguir a Jesús y a
escuchar su voz". Este es un excelente
recordatorio para nosotros que tenemos
que llegar a conocer tan íntimamente
nuestro Pastor. Debemos reconocer su
inconfundible voz, por lo que hemos
sentido su llamada en nuestro interior y le
seguimos.
Para escuchar la voz de Jesús debemos
estar tranquilos. Para dejarle a El hablar
necesitamos parar de hablar. Por lo tanto,
nuestra primera vocación no es el
matrimonio, el sacerdocio, la vida
religiosa, o de un solo estado, pero es
conocer a Jesús tan íntimamente que
cuando Él nos susurra en el silencio,
escuchemos su voz y sigamos su
llamada. Solo entonces, tendremos todas
las vocaciones que necesitamos.
Esta semana, como rezamos en silencio
para escuchar la voz de Jesús, también
oremos por todos los pastores y las
madres. Que su función de guiar, ayude a
todos a conocer y seguir a nuestro Buen
Pastor Jesús en los pastos de la vida y la
felicidad.
Chúa Nhật Phục Sinh thứ tư được đặt
tên là “Chúa Nhật Chúa Chiên Lành.”
Hôm nay cũng được chỉ định là ngày
“Thế Giới Cầu Nguyện cho Ơn Gọi.” Và
cũng trùng hợp, “Ngày Hiền Mẫu” năm
nay rơi vào đúng Chúa Nhật này. Tất cả
đều có mức độ liên hệ mật thiết với nhau.
Thời xưa người ta đã ví Thiên Chúa như
chủ chăn của họ. Nhưng một trong
những hình ảnh đáng mến nhất là hình
ảnh Chúa Giêsu là Đấng Chăn Chiên
Nhân Lành. Dẫu cho cái xã hội với nghề
chăn chiên thật xa vời với chúng ta,
nhưng chúng ta có thể tìm thấy nơi Chúa
Chiên Lành một hình ảnh đem lại sự ấm
cúng và an toàn. Đó là hình ảnh về một
Thiên Chúa rất gần gũi; một Thiên Chúa
luôn biết từng cá nhân và những gì
chúng ta cần.
Chúa Giêsu nói chiên của Ngài chỉ có tai
nghe và nhận ra vị chủ chiên thật của
chúng, và chúng cũng chỉ tin theo sự dẫn
dắt vị chủ chiên này. Chúng ta nhận thấy
Chúa Giêsu vẫn hằng chăm sóc đàn
chiên của Ngài dưới nhiều hình thức hữu
hiệu khác nhau. Thánh Gioan Henry
Newman nói “Chúa Giêsu là chủ chiên và
con chiên biết tiếng của Ngài. Nếu chúng
ta là chiên của Ngài, chúng ta sẽ nghe,
nhận ra và tuân theo Ngài.” Thánh nhân
kế đó đã khuyến khích các tín hữu “đi
theo Chúa Giêsu và trông mong nghe
tiếng Ngài.” Đó là một sự nhắc nhở tuyệt
vời rằng chúng ta cần phải biết vị Chủ
Chăn của chúng ta một cách rất mật
thiết. Chúng ta phải nhận ra giọng nói
của Ngài một cách không nhầm lẫn để rồi
dõi bước theo Ngài.
Để nghe được tiếng Chúa Giêsu, chúng
ta cần phải thinh lặng và để Ngài nói. Vì
vậy, ơn gọi đầu tiên của chúng ta không
phải là hôn nhân, linh mục, tu sĩ, hay độc
thân. Ơn gọi đầu tiên của chúng ta là biết
Chúa một cách mật thiết để khi Ngài thì
thầm với chúng ta, chúng ta sẽ nghe
tiếng Ngài và bước theo lời gọi của Ngài.
Được vậy thì chúng ta sẽ có tất cả những
ơn gọi chúng ta cần đến.
Tuần này chúng ta cầu nguyện trong
thinh lặng để nghe được tiếng Chúa nói.
Chúng ta cũng cầu nguyện cho các Cha
Chánh Xứ và những bà mẹ. Xin Chúa
cho vai trò chăn dắt của họ sẽ giúp mọi
người biết và theo Đấng Chăn Chiên
Nhân Lành Giêsu đến đồng cỏ của sự
sống và hạnh phúc.

RELIGIOUS EDUCATION REGISTRATION FOR NEW STUDENTS—The
following are the two registration dates & times:
Sundays, May 11 & May 18
Location: Parish Hall
Time:9 AM – 2 PM
All new students are required to provide their Birth & Baptismal Certificates at
the time of registration. Registration forms will not be accepted without
either of those documents. Please note that priority for religious education
will be given to those families that are already registered with Our Lady of
Refuge Parish. Please remember that space is limited!

SECOND HARVEST FOOD BANK (SHFB) – distribution at Our Lady of Refuge will be this Wednesday, May 14, 2014. Sign-in begins at 9:30 AM. Food
distribution is from 11:00 PM to 2:00 PM. Coffee and Bread will be served
from 9:30 AM to 11:30 AM in the Parish Hall, while recipients of SHFB are
waiting for the food distribution. Please consider volunteering your time on
May 14 from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM for SHFB distribution & set-up.

HELPING THE HOMELESS: Volunteers are needed on Thurs., May 15 from
9 AM—2 PM to make sandwiches and to put hot meal and vegetable salad in
food containers in the Parish Hall for distribution at the Story Road Homeless
Site. Volunteers are also needed from 10 AM—11:30 AM to sort used donated clothes. If you have any questions or are interested in volunteering, please
contact Romy Cereno of the Social Ministries Committee at (408) 674-7582.
