Dear Parents/Guardians:
We are already in our 3rd quarter/2nd semester of the school year. The time is surely flying by. We have completed our
Winter Benchmarking in both Reading and Math. Your student’s results were shared with you at Parent/Teacher
Conferences. Every teacher at each grade level has taken the time to personally set goals with your child so they can begin
to track their own learning, invest in their success, and monitor their own progress. Many students were surprised and
excited to see that when we set small, achievable goals for ourselves, they are attainable! What a life lesson to teach!
Please continue to ask your child/children about their learning goals/progress.
CHARACTER TRAIT OF THE MONTH: February’s trait of the month is PERSEVERANCE. The color for:
“Perseverance” is PURPLE. The characteristics for ‘PERSEVERANCE” we are looking for our students to display are:
Finishing what you start, Focus on your goals, and Push yourself to do your best. Our kick-off for “PERSEVERANCE”
is Tuesday, February 2; please have your student wear PURPLE!
REFERRAL FREE: Each week we announce classrooms that have remained referral free. At the end of January, each
student who remained referral free for the whole month and did not receive more than 5 lunchroom detentions was able to
attend the grade level movie. (If a student received a referral or more than 5 lunchroom detentions, they were not eligible
to attend.) The students really enjoyed this and earned it!
PERFECT ATTENDANCE WINNERS FOR DECEMBER: We had almost 312 students with perfect attendance for
the month of December! All these students’ names were entered into a drawing for prizes. Student’s names were drawn
and they won a prize. These students were: Andrea Avina, Imani Curry, Sienna Franchini, Braulio Gutierrez, Aaliyah
Hale, Karys Hempel, Evelyn Lopez, and Maribel Mendoza.
DRESSING FOR WEATHER: Winter has arrived! Please remember that if the temperature is 20 degrees or higher we
do go outside. Students can only stay inside with a doctor’s note. Also, please ensure that your child is dressed for the
weather. All students should have winter coats, hats, and gloves! (If a student does not come dressed properly for the
weather, i.e. no winter coat, we are mandated reporters and must report this to DCFS, so PLEASE make sure your child
has their winter coat daily!)

1ST Grade Flight
We are currently working on adding and subtracting within 20. Please
practice math facts with your child. At home when reading, ask your
child about visualizing and inferring.
Flight for 3rd Grade
Students in 3rd grade are learning about various ecosystems and how animals adapt to survive in
their environments. They are also comparing/contrasting two different ecosystems as they prepare
for a class presentation. In math, the boys and girls have just begun exploring the world of fractions
through manipulatives. We look forward to seeing all of the parents at Parent-Teacher Conferences
at the end of the month.

Kindergarten Round-Up
Joliet Public Schools District 86 kindergarten registration for the upcoming 2016-2017 school year will take
place on Thursday, March 3rd from 5:00-7:00 p.m. and Friday, March 4th from 9:30 a.m.-1:00 p.m. at District
86 elementary schools. Any child who will be five years old on or before September 1, 2016 must be
registered. An original state issued or certified copy of the child’s birth certificate and three proofs of
residency are required. In addition, a physical examination and proof of immunization records must be
submitted by the first day of school. For families living in the Forest Park neighborhood, registration will take
place at the Forest Park Community Center. For more information call (815) 740-3196.
PARENT SURVEY
Joliet Public Schools District 86 is always looking for ways to improve communication and connections
between home and school. One way for parents to learn about our curriculum, services within the school and
parenting topics is through attending parent workshops. In an effort to plan workshops that will be useful and
meaningful to our parent community, we would like to hear from you about how we can best meet your needs

Estimados Padres/Tutores:
Estamos en nuestro tercer trimestre/segundo semestre del año escolar. El tiempo está pasando rápidamente. Hemos
completado nuestro Benchmarking de invierno tanto en Lectura como en Matemáticas. Los resultados de su estudiante se
compartieron con usted en las conferencias de padres y maestros. Todos los maestros en cada grado se han tomado el
tiempo para personalmente fijar objetivos con su hijo para que ellos puedan monitorear su progreso y mantenerse al tanto
de su propio aprendizaje. Muchos estudiantes se sorprendidos y se emocionaron al ver que poniéndose metas pequeñas y
alcanzables….son realmente alcanzables! ¡Qué lección de vida para enseñar! Por favor, siga preguntándole a su niño /
niños acerca de sus metas de aprendizaje y su progreso.
CARÁCTER RASGO DEL MES: FEBRERO rasgo del mes es PERSEVERANCIA. El color para: "Perseverancia" es
MORADO. Las características para “PERSEVERANCIA", que estamos enseñando y en busca que nuestros estudiantes
demuestren son: terminar lo que empiezan, enfocarse en sus metas, empujarse así mismo a hacer lo mejor que uno puede.
Nuestro día para comenzar la “PERSEVERANCIA” es el martes 2 de febrero; favor de usar el color MORADO!
REFERENCIAS POSITIVAS DEL MES: Cada semana reconocemos los salones que no tiene alguna referencia a la
oficina durante esa semana. Al final de enero cada estudiante que se mantuvo libres de referencia por todo el mes y no
recibió más de 5 detenciones durante la hora del recreo pudo participar en ver una película de su nivel de grado! (Si un
estudiante recibe una remisión o más de 5 detenciones durante la hora del almuerzo, no era elegible para asistir.) Los
estudiantes disfrutaron muchísimo esto y se lo merecieron!
ASISTENCIA PERFECTA DURANTE DICIEMBRE: teníamos casi 312 estudiantes con asistencia perfecta durante el
mes de diciembre! Todos los nombres de estos estudiantes se introdujeron en un sorteo de premios. Nombres fueron
seleccionados y eligieron un premio; estos estudiantes fueron: Andrea Avina, Imani Curry, Sienna Franchini, Braulio
Gutierrez, Aaliyah Hale, Karys Hempel, Evelyn Lopez, Maribel Mendoza.
VESTIRSE DEPENDIENDO DEL CLIMA: El invierno ha llegado! Por favor, recuerde que si la temperatura es de 20
grados o más salimos a fuera durante la hora de recreo. Los estudiantes sólo pueden permanecer en el interior con una
nota del doctor. También, por favor asegúrese de que su hijo este vestido para el clima! Todos los estudiantes deben tener
abrigos de invierno, sombreros y guantes! (Si un estudiante no viene vestido adecuadamente para el clima, es decir, sin el
abrigo de invierno, estamos obligados a reportarlo y debemos informar a DCFS, así que por favor asegúrese de que su
niño tenga su abrigo de invierno todos los días!).

Trayectoria de 1er grado
Actualmente estamos trabajando en la suma y resta hasta el 20. Por favor, practique las
operaciones de matemáticas con su hijo. En casa al leer, pregúntele a su hijo acerca de la
visualización y la inferencia.
Trayectoria de 3er grado
Los estudiantes de 3er grado están aprendiendo sobre diferentes ecosistemas y cómo los animales se
adaptan para sobrevivir en su medio ambiente. También están comparando / contrastando dos
ecosistemas diferentes, mientras se preparan para una presentación en clase. En matemáticas, los niños
y las niñas han comenzado a explorar el mundo de las fracciones a través de manipulativos. Esperamos
ver a todos los padres en las conferencias de padres y maestros al final del mes.

5to grado comenzará a aprender sobre fracciones y el universo.

INSCRIPCIONES PARA KINDERGARTEN
La Escuelas Públicas de Joliet Distrito 86 tendrán inscripciones para el próximo año escolar 2016-2017 para
los niños entrando a kindergarten, el jueves, 3 de marzo de 5:00-7:00 p.m. y el viernes, 4 de marzo de 9:30
a.m.-1:00 p.m. en cada escuela primaria del Distrito 86. Cualquier niño que tenga cinco años en o antes
del 1° de septiembre 2016 debe ser registrado. Tiene que presentar el Acta de Nacimiento original del
niño (emitida por el estado donde nació) o una copia certificada, y tres pruebas de residencia. Además, un
examen físico y prueba de las vacunas tiene que ser presentadas antes o el primer día de clases. Para las
familias que viven en el vecindario de la escuela Forest Park, el registro será en el Centro Comunitario Forest

ENCUESTA DE PADRES
Las Escuelas Públicas de Joliet Distrito 86 siempre están buscando formas de mejorar la comunicación y
conexiones entre el hogar y la escuela. Una manera para que los padres aprendan sobre nuestro currículo,
servicios dentro de la escuela y temas de crianza es a través de asistir a talleres para padres. Para planificar los
