A Parish of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Youngstown
The Mission of Christ, the Good Shepherd Parish is to celebrate the Sacraments,
share our heritage and traditions, and support one another in living and sharing our faith in
this community and throughout the world.
May 11, 2014
4th Sunday of Easter
FOLLOWING THE GOOD SHEPHERD
The joyful tone of the past three Sundays of
Easter is a little darker today. All three readings
remind us of suffering, death, and sin. We, like
Peter’s audience in the first reading, can ask, “What
are we to do?” And the answer will be the same: we
must reform. Or, as Peter says in his first Letter, we
have strayed like sheep and must return to the
shepherd.
Jesus describes himself as a shepherd in today’s
Gospel, and we know it was one of the earliest
images of Christ in the apostolic church. Today’s
passage continues the darker theme of the first two
readings. Danger lurks and the sheep need
protection. They might follow a false leader; they
might be stolen or destroyed. Only in Jesus Christ
will we be safe. Only in him will we have eternal
life.

2• CHRIST, THE GOOD SHEPHERD PARISH, CAMPBELL, OHIO
Happy Feast of Christ, the Good Shepherd!
Some of the most powerful images of Christ are
presented this weekend. One characteristic of Christ, as
he cares for us, is his leaving the 99 and finding the 1.
Like a shepherd, he carries the “1” back to the fold.
At times, we are that “1.” We sin and stray. And,
Christ searches for us. He speaks to our heart, so that
we can follow him once again.
But, most of the time we are the “99.” We stay close to
one another, close to the Church, united in faith.
But, we are Christ, the Good Shepherd Parish. That
means that we are to follow Christ in a special way. So,
we must be like Christ and go after the “1.” We must
make special effort to reach out to that person who we
are separated from. Maybe that person is in the pew
next to you. Maybe that person is someone who used to
attend Mass here, but has not attended in a while.
Maybe that person is a neighbor or friend who needs to
hear the message of Christ. Whoever the person, you
can search them out and carry them to our Christian
life. On this our Feast Day, work only to build up the
Body of Christ, to build greater unity.
Some of our young people have been preparing for
Confirmation. Bishop Murry will confirm them next
Sunday, May 18 at 2pm at the Cathedral. Please, pray
for our candidates as they receive the Holy Spirit in a
new way, and that their new sacramental life will
inspire us.
And, a very Happy Mother’s Day to all of you!
God bless you,
Fr. Conoboy
A veces somos esa “1”. Hemos pecado y nos hemos
estraviado.
P. Conoboy

voice we recognize is one of mercy and peace, love
and joy. We are called not only to hear his voice,
but to share his words in service and ministry with

Council Nomination Form
Our parish needs Christian leadership to help make decisions about our pastoral life and growth.

•
enthusiasm about the future direction of our parish
•
willingness to listen, to speak honestly, and to work toward consensus
•
the ability to inspire and empower others and to delegate

In order to be considered for the ministry of parish leadership a parishioner must:
•
be a baptized and confirmed Catholic.
•
be a registered member of Christ, the Good Shepherd Parish.
•
be a participant in the ongoing worship life of our parish, especially Sunday Eucharist.
Please list the names of parishioners whom you identify as having the gifts for pastoral council leadership.
If you have their phone numbers, please include that, as well. These people will receive a call to inform them
that they have been named and to ask them to participate in an information session. They will have the option
to remain in the selec-tion process or not.
NOMINATING FORM FOR LEADERSHIP MINISTRY
I suggest that the following individuals be invited to consider leadership ministry through service on
our parish’s pastoral council. I will continue to pray for the guid-ance of the Holy Spirit during the
