From Fr. Michael Shanahan, our Pastor
Del Padre Michael Shanahan, nuestro Párroco
We have a new group forming in the parish. It is called
YAHA. This stands for Young At Heart Adults. So, we
invite our young adults, and even middle age adults (like
me) to be a part of this group. The hope is that we
can get to know one another and organize ourselves
as we choose. Today, Sunday, October 28, the
YAHA group will gather at O’Shaunessy’s after the
11:30 am Mass. This is located on the southeast corner of Ravenswood and Wilson. We had a great
turnout at this gathering last month. It is not necessary to make reservations. Just come out.
I also want to remind you that we began a new
Bible Study course in English. We meet on the 2nd & 4th
Monday of each month at 7 pm in the Pine Room. In the
first session we acknowledged that Catholicism as a
whole can be very confusing. If you had formal Catholic
education, you can end up with a “heap” of Catholicism
but not a consistent way of understanding your faith and
its meaning for your life. There are Sacraments, prayer
styles, moral teachings, doctrines and a vast array of traditions. In this Bible Study, we are going to re-orient ourselves with our faith with the hope of deepening our relationship with God through a deeper understanding of
Scripture. Consider yourself invited to this rich opportunity. We began with a nice group of several people this
week.
In Respect Life Month, we consider the implications
as we draw closer to the elections on Nov. 6. As Catholics
we have the responsibility to express our faith at the polls
as we listen closely to our conscience on all kind of issues.
Our faith asks us to protect the unborn, to speak up for the
poor, the vulnerable, immigrants, and those who are at the
margins of life in society. We have the power to speak for
those who cannot do it for themselves. Our prayerful and
conscientious vote can make the difference.
Our Annual Joy and Celebration Dinner Dance will
take place on Sunday, Nov. 11 at the North Shore Holiday
Inn in Skokie. This is a wonderful event allowing us the
time to enjoy the banquet, to socialize and perhaps to
dance. This is one of the most substantial fund raisers of
the year. The good news is that the proceeds from this
event will go directly to the Living Stewardship Now
Campaign, which means the contributions will be doubled
in order to eliminate our debt. The Dinner Dance will be
one of the final efforts for us in the campaign. There are
many ways to contribute. I invite you to take a look at the
column about the Dinner Dance in this bulletin. There is
also additional information available on the homepage of
our parish website at ololchicago.org
In general, I thank you for your immense generosity to
the parish in the Living Stewardship Now Campaign. ...
Tenemos un nuevo grupo en la parroquia. Se llama
YAHA.
Nuestro voto bien pensado y
piadoso puede hacer la diferencia.
Nuestra Cena Baile Anual se hará el 11 de Noviembre
en el North Shore Holiday Inn en Skokie. Es un evento
maravilloso que nos permite disfrutar el banquete,
socializar y tal vez bailar.
Ahora. …

DAYTIMERS
We are exploring the possibility of starting a group aimed at men and women
who are available during the daytime. A few ideas—both active and passive— that
have been already suggested might include: Entertainment (movies, humorous
DVDs); Education (courses, book discussions); Enrichment (spiritual development);
Relaxation (cards, trips, speakers). If you have any other ideas you’d like considered, we’d like to hear them. Please contact JoAnne at 773-878-5068, or email at
[email protected]
We will meet on Sunday, Nov. 4 at 12:45 p.m. in the Pine Room.
Points to consider: How often we’d meet? Time? Where? Etc… Interested??
