Come to the Resurrection – This Sunday at 7:00 PM!!
Lent is a time of penance, prayer, reflection and
reconciliation. For 20 years the interdenominational St.
Patrick’s Family Players have marked the Lenten and Easter
seasons by performing the musical cantata “Resurrection.”
From New England to California; from Ireland to Italy they
have brought their musical performance and faith in the
Resurrection not just to audiences in cathedrals and parish
churches but to inmates in prison as well.
Told from the perspective of St. Peter, a prisoner about to
be martyred, we learn not only of the anguish he felt for his
denial of Jesus but also of his repentance, forgiveness and
reconciliation with Jesus. The performance by the cast of
more than 45 performers ages 2 to 85 is guaranteed to speak
to all of us, because Peter’s story of betrayal of the Lord
followed by the promise of reconciliation is our story, too.

Please join us on Sunday, February 14 at 7:00 p.m. at

Americanos y nativos de Alaska, comunidades que también
forman parte del pueblo de Dios.

formally homeschooled should be enrolled in faith formation classes from
Kindergarten-Eighth Grade. If you have a child who is not enrolled and you
would like him/her to start classes this autumn, please e-mail Amy Strickland
at [email protected] to be placed on an e-mail list for contact when

We are blessed at Saint Ann to have more than 600 children in classes on
Sundays and Wednesdays. This necessitates many volunteer catechists and
classroom aides. If you would be interested in volunteering in this capacity
starting next autumn (even as a substitute!), please contact Amy for more
information. We can utilize adults and high school students as volunteers, in
both our English and Spanish-language classrooms.

Almighty God and Father, You have created all things and know the
desire of every heart. In this Year of Mercy, we reflect on your great
love for us, and acknowledge our sinfulness and need for your
healing mercy. Trusting that you never tire of forgiving us, we open
our hearts to receive your forgiveness and love. Having encountered
you, Mercy itself, and guided by the Holy Spirit, may we witness to the
love we have received by sharing it with those most in need: the
hungry, the homeless, the afflicted, and the oppressed. We ask this
through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
~ Archdiocese of Washington Prayer for the Year of Mercy
Please Pray for Those in R.I.C.A.
St. Ann’s is blessed with a wonderful group of people who are
preparing for full initiation into the Catholic Church at the
Easter Vigil. On Saturday evening, Feb. 13, these people will
join Bishop Loverde at the Cathedral for the Rite of Election
and the Celebration of the Call to Continuing Conversion. This
Rite brings together people from around the diocese who are
also preparing for initiation into the Catholic Church. At St.
Ann’s Saturday evening Mass this group will be recognized
during the Rite of Enrollment of Names and Sending Forth to
the Cathedral. Please keep these men and women in your
prayers as we journey through Lent.

The Living Church in Africa:
The Context of the Diocese of Lisala
in the Democratic Republic of
the Congo
by Fr. Pascal NG. Kumanda, C.I.C.M.
Pope Francis has encouraged us to be
more global in our knowledge and our
outlook. In keeping with this, St. Ann Parish
is pleased to sponsor a talk that will give us insights into the
Catholic Church in Africa. You are invited to a talk by Fr.
Pascal Ngboloma Kumanda, C.I.C.M., Parochial Vicar of St.
Ann Parish and a member of the CICM –Missionhurst
congregation on February 29, at 7:30 p.m. in the Parish
Hall.
Fr. Pascal will discuss The Living Church in Africa: The
Context of the Diocese of Lisala in the Democratic Republic of
the Congo. Within his talk, Fr. Pascal with share his personal
experience about the Church and his journey to the
priesthood, in a country devastated by wars and poverty.
Invitation to the Doctors of St. Ann’s Parish.
During Lent the Catholic Medical Association of the Diocese of
Arlington will host a spiritual evening of recollection for the
doctors of the diocese. Fr. James Gould, chaplain for the local
guild, will deliver the presentations. Spouses and family
members of the doctors are more than welcome to participate.
The upcoming gathering for the area of Northern Virginia
Hospital Center will take place at St. Ann’s Church
on Thursday February 25, 2016, starting with confessions
at 6:00 PM, followed by a conference and Mass, finishing
by 8:30 PM. Let us pray for all our good doctors and others
who serve in the health care industry. For more
information: [email protected]
SOUP SUPPER HELP WANTED: Volunteers are needed to
support St. Ann’s Lenten Soup Suppers, which start
on Wednesday Feb. 17. Help us build community and collect
donations for local charities; tasks includesetting up the Parish
Hall, serving the soup, and cleaning up. To volunteer, please
contact Heather Obora [email protected].
MAKE BAGGED MEALS FOR THE HOMELESS: Join us in the
parish hall on Tuesday, February 16 at 4:45 pm to make bagged
meals for people in need in Arlington.
MAKING PEACE: On Saturday, February 20, the Diocesan
Peace and Justice Commission will host a symposium on What
Pope Francis Asks of Us as Peacemakers at Good Shepherd
Catholic Church in Alexandria. The keynote speaker will
be Bishop Oscar Cantu of Las Cruces, New Mexico, who chairs
the USCCB’s Committee on International Justice and
Peace. Mass will be at 5 pm, with a light dinner and speaker to
follow. Please RSVP to [email protected] or 703-8413881.
CARING FOR OUR COMMON HOME: Consider climate change
when you remodel bathrooms in an older home. Low-flow toilets,
spigots, and showerheads can reduce your consumption of water
and the country’s overall use of energy, 3 percent of which now
goes for water processing.
Check this space each week for information about outreach
ministries at St. Ann; volunteer needs in our community;
and advocacy opportunities. Submissions from parishioners
are welcome and may be sent to Sandy Cleva
at [email protected] or (703) 389- 6516.
