Desde hace más de 10 años el BRITÁNICO otorga
la Beca a la Excelencia a sus más destacados
estudiantes que entre otros requisitos pasan los
exámenes de la Universidad de Cambridge con la
más alta calificación A. En el 2012 entregamos 24
becas al Reino Unido y este año hemos otorgado
16, en esta oportunidad cuatro de nuestros
estudiantes comparten sus testimonios de viaje.

Magnífica.
Mis expectativas eran altas,
pero no imaginé que Londres
fuera una ciudad tan
hermosa.
Con
enormes
parques, personas de todas
partes del mundo y entradas
gratis a los museos, puedo
decir que el estudio, el
esfuerzo y las largas horas en
el avión valieron la pena para
llegar a Londres.
Hay tantas cosas que ver y
hacer en Londres que nunca
te quedarás sin nada que
hacer, aunque siempre te
faltará el tiempo. El primer
día sentí que tenía todo el
tiempo del mundo, pero
desgraciadamente el mes
pasó muy rápido; mientras
más te diviertes, sientes que
las horas son más cortas.
No voy a mentir, una de las
mejores
cosas
es
el
transporte. De vez en
cuando hay algún retraso y,
cuando yo estuve allá, todos
los fines de semana cerraron
algunas
estaciones;
sin
embargo,
es
rápido,
ordenado, de una estación
siempre vas a poder llegar a
otra y hay mapas, así que no
También disfruté de los
parques. Había tantos y
eran tan grandes que
nunca terminé de recorrer
ninguno por completo.
Simplemente me relajaba
en ellos.
En mi último día en
Londres, me prometí volver
algún día. Cuando me subí
al avión para regresar a
Perú, no le dije adiós a esa
maravillosa ciudad, sino
hasta luego.
Agradezco al BRITÁNICO
por haberme dado esta
gran
oportunidad
de
conocer por primera vez el
Reino Unido, y solo espero
poder cumplir mi promesa
de regresar a Londres.

Beca a la Excelencia 2012-III
A veces es difícil diferenciar
la realidad de un sueño, y
debo admitir que esto me
sucedió cuando me dijeron
que había ganado la beca
al Reino Unido. Lo que veía
como un sueño imposible y
distante
se
había
convertido en una realidad
inmediata. Creo que solo
llegué a comprender la
magnitud de este viaje
cuando aterricé en Londres,
y me di cuenta de que había
viajado miles de kilómetros
hacia una capital del mundo.
La experiencia de viajar y
conocer no solo una, sino
decenas de nuevas culturas
es indescriptible. Londres es
una ciudad tan cosmopolita
que es como si le dieras la
vuelta al mundo. Todos
tienen diferentes costumbres
y una historia que contar. Y
hay tantas cosas que hacer
que uno desearía poder
quedarse más tiempo para
poder experimentarlo todo.
Logré conocer a diferentes
personas mediante las clases
de International House, las
cuales fueron una invaluable
herramienta para poder
mejorar mi nivel de inglés y
ayudarme a comunicarme en
este nuevo mundo al cual
había ingresado. Ser capaz
de comunicarse con personas
de diferentes países es un
ejemplo del poder del inglés.
Gracias al inglés también
aprendí a vivir con mi host
family, que se mostró muy
amable desde el principio y a
la que agradezco por
haberme
ayudado
a
adaptarme a esta ciudad y
por haberme dado consejos
sobre mi estadía en Londres.
Aunque no estuve siempre en
Londres. Hice un par de viajes,
primero a la ciudad de
Cambridge, donde conocí una
universidad líder en el
mundo, y luego a Stonehenge,
el monumento megalítico que
hasta ahora desconcierta a los
investigadores.
Por todo esto, quisiera
agradecer al BRITÁNICO, a
International House y a todas
las personas que hicieron
posible esta experiencia. Y, a
aquellos que están por dar su
FCE y esperan obtener la
beca, quiero decirles que es
posible, que pueden hacerlo,
que
solo
tienen
que
esforzarse; les aseguro que
no habrá mejor recompensa
a su esfuerzo.

What
a
wonderful
experience. I actually don’t
have words to describe how I
felt and how I am feeling
now. I can only say that it
was perfect. When I first
arrived in London I was tired,
but that soon disappeared
when I sat in the car looking
through the window. Such a
beautiful place to stay
forever. I got to my host
family and Maura (my
landlady) received me with a
big smile and a big hug. She
served me dinner and I got
to know all her family. They
were all very nice and
caring. The first day at
school
was
perfect,
although it was really hot! I
got to know all my
classmates and my teacher
was so funny! The following
weeks I started to fall in love
with the city. I got to know
each corner of it, I wanted
to spend every day out. Even
though some days I got
home very tired, it was all
worth it. I met so many
amazing people with whom
I still have contact; I hope
we won’t lose it. Everybody
in London was nice to me everybody! I love not only
the people, but the streets,
the parks, the shops, the
museums, its historical
places and even the public
transport. Everything in
London seems part of a
fairytale. I got to know
different cities on this trip,
but London is my favourite.
I am really happy that all my
effort to win this scholarship
was rewarded in this way.
That’s why I encourage you
to follow your dreams and
always work hard at
something, because in the
end it is you that is going to
be rewarded and it is you
who is going to win the big
prize. So I want to thank the
BRITÁNICO who made my
dream possible. I fell in love
with London and I know I
will go back someday.

LONDON BABY!
Nunca dejaré de estar
agradecido
con
el
BRITÁNICO. La educación
que recibí en la institución
ha probado ser muy valiosa
en mi desarrollo personal y
académico, y el viaje al
Reino Unido ha sido una de las experiencias más
gratificantes y enriquecedoras de mi vida.

Para mí, uno de los aspectos más interesantes del viaje
fue la diversidad cultural que encontré en Londres.
Personas de todo el mundo habían acudido a esta ciudad
para satisfacer sus distintos intereses y metas. Inmigrantes
árabes, hindúes, italianos y brasileños conformaban las
comunidades más grandes y variopintas. Esta diversidad,
de forma muy superficial, se hacía evidente cada vez que
salía de casa. Trajes largos de una sola pieza, unos muy
discretos entre color tierra y negro, y otros rojos, púrpuras,
de colores encendidos, vestían a los grandes grupos de
árabes e hindúes de la ciudad. No solo en la vestimenta era
notoria la presencia de otras naciones. Además de inglés,
muchos otros idiomas se hablaban en Londres. Salir a
recorrer las calles era entrar en un océano de palabras
indescifrables y acentos extraños de idiomas que nunca
había escuchado. Portugués, francés, italiano y español
fueron los pocos que pude recoger y distinguir de entre los
muchos que turistas e inmigrantes traían de su país de
origen.
Bridge of Sighs - Oxford
Londres es una ciudad que respira y emana cosas nuevas y
emocionantes en cada esquina. Rica en arquitectura clásica y
contemporánea, con historia en cada pequeña calle,
inmensos y maravillosos museos para pasar días enteros y
librerías que dan la impresión de albergar todo el
conocimiento del mundo. Todo ello, junto con restaurantes
de todas partes del mundo, cafeterías italianas y bares con
cerveza amarga y refrescante. En suma, una ciudad
cosmopolita que tiene todo lo que cualquiera pudiera pedir
e imaginar.
Este viaje me ha traído muchas satisfacciones y me ha dado
una nueva forma de ver la vida. Si tú te esfuerzas lo suficiente
y aprovechas al máximo cada clase en el BRITÁNICO,
entonces sabrás a lo que me refiero

Wow! Time passes so
quickly! Two years ago I had
my first class at the
BRITÁNICO, and now I’m
writing this because I won
the scholarship! I remember
I was so nervous that first
day, but then I started
making friends and getting
used to it. I had a whale of a
time studying at the
BRITÁNICO.
Getting an A at FCE was no
mean achievement; I’m
absolutely
convinced
I
couldn’t have done it
without the help of my
family, especially my mother,
and my friends. Many
thanks to all my teachers,
each and every one of them
helped me to be in this
place right now, specially
my Advanced level teacher,
Thimoty Reyes Kanashiro thanks to him I had the best
preparation to pass the FCE
with flying colours.
“You’re going to London”, it
doesn’t matter how many
times I say it, I still can’t
believe it. Thanks a bunch,
BRITÁNICO, for giving me
this amazing opportunity.
But this doesn’t end here;
next year it’s CAE time!

It’s still quite hard to believe
that I am one of the winners
of
the
Excellence
scholarship. I remember
that the day of the
ceremony I was rather
nervous and ecstatic at the

same time. As soon as I
heard that every nominated
candidate would win, I
couldn’t hide my joy. The first
memories that came to my
mind were those from 2008
when I started studying
English at the BRITÁNICO.
Despite the fact that I was
only 11 years old at that
time, I promised myself that I
would do my best to improve
my English every day and
that’s what I did. My
teachers always pushed me
to the limit and thanks to
that I learnt the language
effectively.

wasn’t an easy journey
but I was willing to put all
my effort into what I was
doing. The moment I
found out I had been
awarded a passing grade
in the examination, I
realized
that
with
optimism
and
perseverance you can
accomplish many things
in life.
Finally, I would like to
thank the BRITÁNICO for

guiding me through this
process and my parents
for being there to give me
their support when I

Este concurso busca estimular la creatividad de los niños y
los adultos por medio del diseño y la creación de
personajes e historias particulares de la cultura limeña.
Para participar solo necesitas seguir estos pasos:

LA RECEPCIÓN DE TRABAJOS SERÁ DEL 25 DE

El programa Jardineritos, que desarrolla Jardines de la Paz,
brinda conocimientos prácticos para facilitar la inserción en
el mercado laboral a jóvenes de las casas hogares de Cedro.
Mediante esta capacitación laboral, los jóvenes tienen la
oportunidad de desarrollarse y así incrementar su
estabilidad emocional, su autoestima y el desarrollo de sus
habilidades sociales.
BRITÁNICO EN LA
EXPOPOSTULANTE DE PLAZA LIMA
SUR Y PLAZA NORTE
El BRITÁNICO estuvo presente en la feria Expopostulante
que se realizó en el Plaza Lima Sur en setiembre y en el Plaza
Norte en octubre. Se contó con la asistencia de miles de
estudiantes de los últimos años de colegio, quienes
mostraron un gran interés en iniciar o complementar sus
estudios de inglés.
El programa tiene una duración de seis meses y está
orientado a capacitar técnica, práctica e intensivamente a
los jóvenes en trabajos de jardinería. Adicionalmente, se
inculcan valores como el buen comportamiento, la
puntualidad y el respeto.
Al finalizar el programa, se les hace entrega de una
certificación, que acredita que han sido capacitados en
dichas áreas, así como de un juego de herramientas que les
permitirá iniciar un nuevo trabajo.

Desde el año 2005 el BRITÁNICO apoya esta iniciativa que
ya ha graduado a más de 27 promociones y ha beneficiado
a más de 250 jóvenes.

años de edad y dispuestos a celebrar una gran fiesta. El

IELTS ADMINISTRATORS’ MEETING:
AMERICAS CENTRES
Vanessa Oliver, Head of International Examinations, attended the IELTS Administrators’ meeting which was held in London,
UK, from 26 October to 1 November as a follow up to the IELTS Administrator meeting held in Mexico earlier this year. IELTS
Administrators also had the opportunity to visit a UK test centre in action on a test day.
On Tuesday 29 October these IELTS Administrators attended an IELTS Global event at the British Council London office to
celebrate the milestone achievement
of 2 million IELTS candidates tested
this year.

Sean estas mis primeras líneas para hacer llegar mi
agradecimiento a los padres de familia de J06, quienes
llegaron hasta nuestra aula el sábado 19, demostrando así
su interés y apoyo hacia sus hijos.
La idea de hacer este proyecto surgió del interés mismo de
los alumnos, de su afán por conocer más acerca de las
grandes culturas que dominaron nuestro mundo en el
pasado. La clase fue divida en grupos y cada grupo eligió
libremente el tema que deseaba desarrollar. Desde ese
momento se hicieron responsables de llevar a cabo toda una
vasta investigación, que luego fue compartida y debatida en
el aula.
Ante tanta curiosidad e iniciativa, se planteó esta Ancient
Empires Exhibition e inmediatamente se estableció una
fecha para el evento. Y así, comenzaron los preparativos
sábado a sábado, hasta llegar a este gran día, en el cual
demostraron, con algo de temor, sus habilidades en el
manejo del idioma extranjero. Además, compartieron sus
inquietudes e investigaciones con los padres de familia
invitados, que no sólo se limitaron a ser receptores, sino
también formularon preguntas sobre dichos temas. Sólo me
queda agradecer mediante estas líneas últimas a mis
alumnos de Juniors 06 por haber hecho posible esta gran
mañana de exhibición y demostrar el manejo adecuado de
medios y materiales confeccionados por ellos mismos…

As this autumn marked over 800 productions to date, the National
Theatre Company, with a brilliant choice of extracts, presented a show
called "50 Years On Stage". It paid tribute to some of the historic venue’s
finest moments of live performances and archive footage which was also
broadcast on BBC Two.

WAKE ME UP: Con una novedosa mezcla de Electro, Soul y
Country el DJ sueco Avicii nos entregó una de las canciones más importantes en lo que
va del 2013. Encuentras este corte en el CD True.
BLURRED LINES: El canadiense-norteamericano Robin Thicke junto al rapero T.I. y
Pharrell Williams hicieron bailar a todo el mundo con este tema que ha encabezado los
principales rankings en Europa, América del Norte, Latinoamérica y Asia .A la fecha , ha
vendido más de 136 000 copias en el Reino Unido.

• The first proposal for a National Theatre was made by London publisher Effingham Wilson
in 1848. It was supported by leading figures of the day including Charles Dickens, Matthew
Arnold, Charles Kemble and Henry Irving.
• Today, the National Theatre is on the South Bank, just minutes from Covent Garden, the
West End and Waterloo. The front entrances are on the riverside walkway, which have been
featured in many films. Just look up SE1 9PX; however, there is more than one venue around!
• Also attending the gala occasion earlier this month was Joan Plowright, widow of Laurence
Olivier – the National's first director and one of the last century's greatest actors. In fact, the
NT stage is called the 'Olivier stage'.
