“VARIG PATHS TO GOD” - A IVITATIO FOR
ARTISTS AD PARTICIPATS TO A ART EXHIBIT
October 11, 2012 marked the opening of the Year
of Faith. This is a time to confirm our faith, both internally and externally. In his letter announcing the
Year of Faith, Pope Benedict XVI stated that the renewal of the Church is also executed by the testimony given through the lives of the faithful.
In order to align ourselves with the Pope's goals,
the Gallery, in the Cultural House of St. Joseph, will
host an exhibition of works of art under the theme of
"Varying Paths of Faith”. This event is open for both
children and adults.
The deadline to submit artwork for consideration
is March 10th. The exhibition will be March 17th.
Participants may bring their submittals to the rectory,
during regular office hours. Children in the CCD
program who want to participate, may give their artwork to their CCD instructor for submittal.

event can be found in the flyers in the back of the
church.
TIME
TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITIO
The holidays are well behind us; the year stretches
out ahead. And what sort of year will it be? To judge by
the words of Jesus in today’s Gospel, it will be “a year
acceptable to the Lord.” And Jesus surely didn’t mean
only the next three hundred sixty-five days facing his
listeners at that time.
When Jesus announced the “arrival” of God’s favor, it
was a message for all time, for every year. Similarly, we
read today in Nehemiah how the people gathered with
solemnity to hear God’s word as though for the first time.
They listened, and then fell to the ground and wept. But
the prophet said, “Today is holy . . . do not be sad, and do
not weep.”
The “year acceptable to the Lord” is this year. The day
that is “holy” is this day. The time to listen is now. What
sort of year will you have? What sort of day? God’s help
is always here. What you do with each day can be holy
and acceptable to the Lord if you but listen to and act on
God’s word.
Saturday’s feast of the Presentation is a day for the
blessing of candles. Why does liturgy require candles? In
the first years of the church, worship was often at night,
and candles and torches were carried from place to place
within the worship space as needed. Candles were also a
mark of festivity and hospitality when people gathered for
prayer in homes, and later on in large buildings with thick
walls and dark corners. But even after gaslight and
electricity, candles were kept.
Part of the reason has to do with the warm, clean light
of a candle’s flame. Candles are a good sign of the
partnership of God and creation: wax made by bees,
gathered and fashioned by human hands into something
beautiful and useful. In order for the light to shine, the
candle surrenders itself, almost as if it is pouring itself out
so that the light can flood into the world. The candle of
baptism, placed into our hands, and carried again and
again, speaks silently of that same wisdom. If you would
save your life, you must lose it. You must pour your life
out like Christ so that you may be filled with the light of
his love.

"DIVERSOS CAMIOS A DIOS" - Una invitación para los
artistas y los participantes a una exposición de arte.
El 11 de octubre 2012, el Papa Benedicto XVI marcó la
apertura del Año de la Fe. Este es un tiempo para confirmar
nuestra fe, tanto interna como externamente. Con el fin de
alinearnos con los objetivos del Papa, la galería, en la Casa de
la Cultura de San José, será el anfitrión de una exposición de
obras de arte bajo el tema de "Variación de Caminos de la Fe".
Participación está tanto para niños como para adultos.
El plazo para presentar obras de arte para el examen es el 10 de
marzo. Exposición será el 17 de marzo. Los participantes
pueden traer sus sumisiones a la rectoría, durante horas de
oficina. Niños que participan en el
programa de CCD (instrución
religiosa), que quieran presentar sus
obras, pueden traer sus sumisiones a
sus instructores. Más información
sobre cómo participar en el evento
pueden ser encontrados en los volantes
en la parte de atrás de la iglesia.
LECTURAS DE HOY
Primera lectura - Esdras leyó el libro de la ley de Dios
ante la asamblea reunida (Nehemías 8:2-4a, 5-6, 8-10).
Salmo - Tú tienes, Señor, palabras de vida eterna (Salmo
19 [18]).
Segunda lectura - Del mismo modo que el cuerpo con
sus muchas partes forma un solo cuerpo, así también
Cristo (1 Corintios 12:12-30).
Evangelio - Jesús leyó del profeta Isaías y declara que en
su propia persona se cumple la profecía (Lucas 1:1-4;
4:14-21).
EL TIEMPO
Los días de fiesta ya pasaron, el año se nos viene
encima. ¿Y qué clase de año será? De acuerdo con las
palabras de Jesús en el Evangelio de hoy, será “el año de
la gracia del Señor”. Y Jesús con seguridad no se refería
solamente a los próximos trescientos sesenta y cinco días
cuando hablaba a la gente en ese tiempo.
El anuncio de la “llegada” de la gracia de Dios lo hizo
Jesús para todos los tiempos, para cada año. De manera
similar, leemos hoy en Nehemías cómo la gente se reunía
con solemnidad a escuchar la Palabra de Dios como si
fuera la primera vez. Escuchaban y luego se postraban con
el rostro en la tierra y lloraban. Pero el profeta decía: “Este
día está dedicado al Señor… no estén tristes”.
El “año de la gracia del Señor” es este año. El día
“dedicado al Señor” es hoy. El tiempo de escuchar es
ahora. ¿Qué clase de año tendrás? ¿Qué clase de día? La
ayuda de Dios siempre está aquí. Lo que haces cada día
será santo y aceptable al Señor solamente si escuchas y
practicas la palabra de Dios.

TRADICIOES DE UESTRA FE
El día 3 de Febrero se celebra entre misas, mariachis,
fuegos artificiales y muchas expresiones de religiosidad
popular, la fiesta de Nuestra Señora de la Concepción de
Suyapa en Honduras. Fue un sábado del mes de febrero,
cuando Alejandro Colindres, un joven humilde labrador, y
Jorge Martínez, un niño de ocho años, la encontraron.
Según la tradición estos llegaron cansados a la
quebrada del Piligüín. Acostándose sobre el suelo,
Alejandro sintió lo que le parecía una piedra en su
espalda. Por más que intentaba arrojarla lejos, cuando se
acostaba sentía la misma piedra. Por fin en lugar de
tirarla, la puso en su mochila y al amanecer descubrió que
no era piedra sino una pequeña imagen de María (6.5 cm.)
con rostro indígena tallada en madera.
En 1780 se le construyó un templo y en 1796 se
registró su primer milagro. El Papa Pió XII la proclamó
Patrona de la República de Honduras en 1925. En las
advocaciones latinoamericanas ella es nombrada como la
fortaleza de los humildes.
