Through recycling and fragmentation she analyzes looking forward for connections between objects that appear intentionally distant, in this way she appropriates of images that she recycles through messages that circulate in the area of communication within a context bound to simultaneous information channels. Her work has been shown throughout Spain, Portugal, France, Serbia, Algiers, Mexico, USA and in contemporary art fairs ARCO and Art Miami. Representing Galleries Contemporánea, Granada, Spain, Ann Nathan Gallery, Chicago, USA and Melissa Morgan FIne Art, Palm Desert, CA, USA www.almudenarodriguez.com My artistic career is characterized by a work in which I use contemporary iconosphere for transforming it into a painting entirely personal in which logos and images are interspersed with everyday sayings ad slogans, images of gender, share a feminine writing which serve to develop a discourse influenced by the spaces and places where I developed my career. In this regard, I would like to highlight my experience in Mexico in the years 2001 to 2004, which has led to a work in which the peculiarities of the Aztec country become key building blocks for the relations that structure my work. As I have spent long periods in Mexico, my work is greatly influenced by Mexican iconography. Through recycling and fragmentation I analyze the search for connections between objects that appear intentionally distant; in this way I take ownerchip of images that I recycle through messages that are widespread in the area of communication within a context doomed to simultaneous information channels. In my paintings the canvas and the white cloth disappear. The supporting materials are created in an industrial manner, materials are sewn together artificially forming a kind of map on which I re-arrange what I have experienced and observed: my own vision. The delicacy of the fabrics is an important part of the work, the fact that they have different tactile qualities offers the initial way of conceiving the piece. I extract images from everyday banality as references to mass culture. Characters from comics, as those from mythology of the past, are our idols of today-references of our time which are the main characters of an era full of iconic mass media. My characters find themselves in a world in which self-perception is determined by movies and publicity, as hidden economic interests, instead of being determined by art or thinking. From an attitude of irony, sarcasm and jeer, my intention and desire is to offer reflection on this absurdity rather than to contribute a releasing laughter. I am currently working on a series of paintings in which I analyze what is known as “Pygmalion effect”, applied in this case to the narrative of the artistic work, or how we can influence or determine the viewer's perception through art, and if that is really possible. I am interested in this subject because it is based on ambiguity, by proposing both positive and negative results in its application, ambiguity in which my work is also based Pygmalion effect Pygmalion effect X, acrylic on hand-sewn fabrics, 55 x 78 inches Pygmalion effect II acrylic on hand-sewn fabrics 70,87 x 87,80 inches Pygmalion effect III acrylic on hand sewn fabrics 66,93 x 77,56 inches Regards, acrylic on hand-sewn fabrics, 55 x 78 inches Pygmalion effect XII acrylic on hand sewn fabrics 42 x 50 inches Pygmalion effect XV acrylic on hand sewn fabrics 41 x 50 inches Pygmalion effect XVI acrylic on hand sewn fabrics 42 x 50 inches Pygmalion effect XVII acrylic on hand sewn fabrics 42 x 50 inches Pygmalion effect XVIII. This project links up with pictorial series that I have done previously, and that define my artistic work in an antrhropological and historicistic way, through ironic statements about the everyday life.
