This week we hear that
ominous Gospel passage where
Jesus tells us about people
being taken from where they
are and what they are doing
when they least expect it, while others remain. This has
been distorted by some for support into a spectacular idea
of rapture, leading to many books and movies. A
profitable genre has been created that sometimes preys on
people's fears.
Esta semana oímos el pasaje ominoso del evangelio
en que Jesús cuenta cómo, a fuerzas, sacan a algunas
personas de sus hogares mientras que permiten que
otras se queden. Este mensaje ha sido distorsionado
para apoyar una idea ridícula del rapto, la cual ha
provocado la producción de muchos libros y películas
sobre este tema. Se ha creado un género de
entretenimiento que se aprovecha de los miedos de los
demás.
But in following Jesus Christ, there is no fear. What we
are called to do is live each day as it were our last. Be
mindful of all the opportunities around you to share love
and the gifts God has given you. We will all be held
accountable in the end, but it is not what we have done
that will save us. Our salvation lies in the grace freely
given to us by Jesus. When we choose to receive that gift
and intentionally follow him, we are led to giving over
our entire being totally to him.
This Advent, let's not allow ourselves to be caught up in
all the craziness of the season, but instead give ourselves
over to God to use for his glory. The Incarnation born in a
manger is calling you. Have no fear!

No hay miedo en seguir a Jesucristo. Dios nos llama a
vivir cada día como si fuera nuestro último en la tierra.
Tenemos que ser conscientes de todas nuestras
bendiciones para compartir el amor y los regalos que nos
ha dado Dios. Al fin y al cabo, seremos responsables por
nuestras vidas cuando lleguen a su fin, pero últimamente,
nuestras acciones no nos salvarán. Nuestra salvación está
en la gracia que nos da libremente Jesús. Cuando
escojamos recibir la gracia que nos da y lo seguimos con
propósito, nos prestamos a entregarnos completamente a
Dios.
Durante el Adviento, no debemos estar perdidos en el
caos de la temporada, sino debemos dar todo lo que
somos a Dios para su gloria. La Encarnación --nacido en
un pesebre-- te llama. ¡No tengas miedo!

The Parish Giving Tree
The holidays are the perfect time to thank God for the
good things we have in life. One of the best
ways of being thankful is to use our blessings
to help those in need. St. Aloysius Parish will
have a “Giving Tree” decorated with
ornaments asking us to respond to the needs
of many different groups: needs within our
own Parish, the needs of the students
attending St. Aloysius Gonzaga High
School in Kenya, and the needs of families
from St. Malachy. Parishioners will be able
to take an ornament or two and purchase the
items on the ornament. We want to take care
of others first. Please make sure that the
families and the children in Africa are
helped.
Please bring the ornament attached to the wrapped gift
to the Church by December 18th. You can place your gift
monetary/and or gift cards into the collection basket at
Mass or you may drop it off at the Rectory.
Los Regalos del Árbol Parroquial
Los feriados son el tiempo perfecto para dar gracias a
Dios por todo lo bueno que tenemos en la vida.
Una de las mejores formas de dar gracias es
usar nuestras bendiciones para ayudar a
aquellos en necesidad. La parroquia de San
Luis Gonzaga tendrá un “Árbol de Regalos”
decorado con ornamentos pidiendo que
respondamos a las necesidades de diferentes
grupos: necesidades dentro de la parroquia,
las necesidades de los estudiantes de la
escuela San Aloysius en Kenia, y las
necesidades de las familias de St. Malachy.
Feligreses podrán tomar un ornamento o dos y
comprar los artículos del ornamento.
Queremos ayudar primero a otros. Favor de
asegurarse que las familias y niños en África sean
ayudados.
Favor de traer el ornamento adjunto al regalo envuelto
a la Iglesia el 18 de diciembre. Puede poner su regalo de
dinero/y o tarjetas de regalo en la colecta de la Misa o lo
puede dejar en la Rectoría.

The Lord's Peace be with you!
¡La Paz del Señor esté con ustedes!
This Sunday marks the beginning of a new church
liturgical year with the season of Advent, a time of
great expectation and hope as we await the birth of
Christ at Christmas. It is also a period in which we are
called to prepare our hearts to encounter him at his
second coming. Although the nativity of our Lord had
been prophesied centuries beforehand, the exact timing
was known only by God. In the same manner, no one
knows the day or the hour of Jesus’ triumphant return.
It is therefore wise of us to - as St. Paul reminds us in
this Sunday’s second reading – “…throw off the works
of darkness and put on the armor of light (Rom 13:
12)”. This may seem difficult given the hectic nature of
things during the “holiday season”, but it is very
possible as long as we commit ourselves to walk
together and support one another in the hope we have
received through our baptism.
Este Domingo marca el comienzo de un nuevo año
litúrgico en la Iglesia con la temporada de Adviento, un
tiempo de gran expectativa y esperanza mientras esperamos
el nacimiento de Cristo en Navidad. También es un período
en el que estamos llamados a preparar nuestros corazones
para encontrarnos con Él en Su segunda venida. Aunque la
natividad de nuestro Señor había sido profetizada siglos
antes, el tiempo exacto era conocido solamente por Dios.
De la misma manera, nadie sabe el día o la hora del regreso
triunfante de Jesús. Por lo tanto, es sabio que nosotros como San Pablo nos recuerda en este domingo de la
segunda lectura – "...dejemos de hacer las cosas propias de
la oscuridad y revistámonos de luz, como un soldado se
reviste de su armadura (Rom 13:12)". Esto puede parecer
difícil dada la naturaleza frenética de estas "temporadas
festivas", pero sí es muy posible siempre y cuando nos
comprometemos a caminar juntos y apoyarnos mutuamente
en la esperanza que hemos recibido a través de nuestro
bautismo.
