Introduction and General Information
elcome! As you prepare to celebrate the Sacrament of
Matrimony, the Pastoral staff of the Santa Clara Parish
shares in your joy. We are providing this information to
assist you with the many details of preparing you for the worthy
reception of the Sacrament of Matrimony, so that

The couple must contact the rectory at least eight (8) months in
advance of the proposed marriage day, and make an appointment with the priest or deacon. On this day the guidelines
and requirements to receive the Sacrament of Matrimony will be
explained to you. At this first meeting with the priest, or deacon,
the couple will state their intention to marry. Please note that at
your first meeting, it is of the utmost importance that you inform the
priest if either of you have been previously married in any manner, civil ceremony (Judge or Justice of the

At the second meeting the couple must turn-in the certificates
of Baptism (updated copy), Communion and Confirmation. The
couple must each bring two direct family members (over 18) to
sign a “Pre-nuptial Witness Form” (this document states that the

person is free to marry) and take the prenuptial inventory. In certain cases, FOCCUS
results may be discussed. On the second
meeting, we will provide the couple with the
necessary information to book their “Engaged
Encounter Weekend Retreat” and their
“Natural Family Planning Workshop” (NFP).
Your wedding date will be reconfirmed on
this appointment.

For the third appointment, it will be reviewed/confirmed with
the couple where they are regarding their Engaged Encounter
Retreat and NFP workshop. The couple will be reminded to apply
for their “Marriage License” at the County Register-Recorder’s Office at least 30 days before their wedding day. On this day the
couple will receive a Liturgy Planning Booklet of the Holy Mass
(readings selection) and the date for the Ceremony Rehearsal.

By this appointment, the couple must have fulfilled all the requirements. On this day the couple will bring their Marriage
License, completed Liturgy Planning Booklet, and proof of workshops. Ceremony fee must be paid off by this time. On this day
you will be reminded to come to the Sacrament of Reconciliation
(confession) as preparation of your wedding day.
Documents Required for Marriage
he following documents (Sacraments of Initiation) are required to be turned in to our parish office within the first
30 days from the first appointment:
 Baptismal Certificate – An updated baptismal certificate must be
issued from the church of your baptism within the last six months.
We will keep this copy in our file.
 First Communion and Confirmation Certificate – A copy of your
original certificates must be kept in your file.
 Witness Forms Stating Freedom to Marry – Two forms are required for each person, showing the person is free to marry in
the Catholic Church.
 Civil License – This must be obtained from the Ventura County
Recorder’s Office at (805) 654-2263 or website:

music, organist & cantor) for registered and active members. Once approved by the Pastor, the out of boundary

necessary to reserve the date. The remainder should be submitted
to the church no later than one (1) month prior

paid (except the $100 non-refundable deposit) will be refunded.
A one hundred ($100) dollar cancellation fee will be charged for
less than ninety (90) days notice. Please inform your musicians.
Music for the Mass
he music at every wedding should reflect the sacredness of
the Mass and the Sacrament of Matrimony. The songs and
music should help the congregation to enter into prayer.
Secular music or songs, though they may be popular, are not allowed during the ceremony. The music is included in your donation,

organist and cantor. If you prefer to hire other musicians you must
notify us at least 30 days prior your ceremony, failing to do so this
comes with a $100 fee; on the actual day of the ceremony cancelling our musicians requires a $200 fee. When hiring outside musicians, their music must be liturgical and approved by our music director (no secular music please).
Marriage Preparation Program

Archdiocese requires the bride and groom
attend an approved marriage preparation program (extra
charge may apply):
Attend an Engaged Encounter Weekend—This is a weekend for couples preparing for marriage. While it is spent with other couples,
private time is available to build a closer relationship through honest and intense conversations on important aspects of married life.
This is the preferred and required marriage preparation option
for the couple. The fee and the dates for this weekend will be provided by the priest, deacon or our front office. These dates fill up
quickly, therefore, register as soon as possible. Please log in for

Or
Attend a Marriage Encounter Weekend—This is only for couples that
are already married civilly. We will provide more information
about this weekend retreat within our next meetings. You may also
check our website for more information.

educational program that helps couples plan the size of their families. Today’s NFP methods are accurate and precise. They have
been developed by medical researchers who have a comprehensive understanding of the human biology and fertility.

Wedding Day/Dress Code (Wedding Party)
lease instruct your wedding party to arrive at the church
at least thirty (30) minutes prior to the ceremony. Also,
please make certain that the dress code in the church is
formal. The limit of couples for your wedding party is seven (7)
bridesmaids and seven (7) groomsmen; the main focus should be
on the couple and their sacramental encounter with Jesus. In addition, there are to be no more than four (4) children in the wedding
party, and those children are to be over five years of age. Please
do not chew gum, eat nor drink at the rehearsal or at the ceremony. This applies to the entire wedding party and to your guests.

Dress Code/Wedding party—Bride and bridesmaids’ dresses must
be of a modest cut (no sleeveless, no bare shoulders, no strapless
dresses and no cleavage) because of the sacredness of the church.

Arrangements for the rehearsal are to be made through the
wedding coordinator or directly by the office. The wedding rehearsal takes thirty (30) minutes. A wedding coordinator may contact you to remind you about the rehearsal and will assist you at
your wedding ceremony. Rehearsals are normally scheduled the
Friday evening before your wedding date at:

Only thirty (30) minutes per rehearsal. All members of the wedding party are expected to attend. Please ask them to be in the
church fifteen (15) minutes before rehearsal. Any tardiness will reduce your available rehearsal time. When you hire a wedding
planner on your own, you must follow the guidelines explained to
you by our wedding coordinator or detailed on this publication.
Best Man and Maid of Honor

practicing Catholics and single or married in the Church.
The sponsors must honor and live in the teachings of the
Church and must be living their sacramental life, particularly receiving the Eucharist every Sunday and regularly coming to the
Sacrament of reconciliation.

Symbols at the Celebration of Matrimony
he wedding Mass celebration may include the use and exchange of Religious Symbols; these are very meaningful
but not essential. The most common are rings, coins (arras),
cord (lasso), Bible and Rosary, religious medals, and the bouquet of
flowers to the Blessed Virgin Mary. Unity candles are no longer
used at this parish. Any sponsors presenting these symbols must
come to church dressed modestly.

unfortunately, hear the confessions of the wedding party on the
night of the rehearsal. Please ask your wedding party to go to
their local church prior to the rehearsal and receive the Sacrament
of Reconciliation up to one month prior to the wedding. Please
take parish bulletin for information about times and dates of confessions.

No Throwing Rice, Birdseed or Flower Petals
N
o throwing of rice, birdseed, and/or flower petals before
-during-after the wedding is not permitted. These mentioned items pose a definite safety hazard.
Candles (Unity Candle)
here are restrictions on the use of candles due to Fire Department regulations. No extra candles are to be used in
flower arrangements or decorations. Unity Candle is not
longer used at this parish.

Dressing at the Church
he church does not have adequate facilities for the bridal party to use as a
dressing room. Before the ceremony,
we suggest the bride wait in the limousine until
the wedding coordinator comes and gets her.

Alcoholic Beverages/Under the Influence
lcoholic beverages of any sort or kind are not permitted on
the church property at any time. Also, anyone who has
been drinking and/or is intoxicated in any way will not be
permitted to participate in the ceremony. If either the bride or
groom is intoxicated there will be no wedding.

Video and Photography
t is very important that the people hired (or family members)
to take video and pictures be dressed professionally and/or
for the religious occasion:
 Photographer for your Posed Pictures—We regret that due to the
need for close scheduling the wedding party may not come back
into the church after the service for pictures.
 Video Photographer—The video camera preferably should be
stationary and no extra lighting is allowed.
 Photographer and/or the person video recording must dress appropriately for a formal and sacred occasion. Beach sandals (or
similar), shorts, jeans, sleeveless shirt or blouse or dress, T-shirts,
hats are not allowed.
 We reserve the right to stop any taking of photography or video-recording if the conduct and/or dress code of the person in
charge is not in line with the guidelines (please see “Your Wedding Party/Dress Code” chapter).
 No pictures from the center aisle. No equipment between pews.
 We suggest that the photographer and/or person video recording attend rehearsal of the ceremony to become familiar with
our church. Please do not interfere or interrupt the wedding coordinator at the time of the rehearsal.
 Because of the well-lighted space in the church, no flash is allowed except in the procession in and out the church.
 No more than two photographers/video on the Sanctuary.

 During the Mass, you must not cross center aisle at any time.
 Please have wedding party and invited guests restrict their
movement as much as possible, so they do not distract the bride
and groom and the priest/deacon during the celebration of the
ceremony.
 Pictures from the choir loft are not permitted. Please respect the
space given to musicians or others during the ceremony.
 Do not walk up the steps (second & third level) in the Sanctuary
to take pictures. You may walk to the first level (one step up
from the floor.
 Photography and video must be done avoiding unnecessary
noise or conversations.
 Photographer and video must report with ceremony coordinator
10 minutes before the Mass for last minute instructions.
Flower Arrangements (Guidelines)

season of Lent (before Easter); during the Advent season
(before Christmas) there maybe some modest flower arrangements.
The scattering of flower petals, inside or outside of the church, is
not permitted. We please ask you to follow the pertinent guidelines for floral arrangements in our church. You are welcome to
come and look over our church to get ideas for your arrangements:

Introducción e Información General

ienvenidos! En su preparación a celebrar el Sacramento
del Matrimonio, el equipo pastoral de la Parroquia de
Santa Clara comparten su alegría. Estamos proveyendo
esta información para asistirle en la planificación a celebrar el
Sacramento del Matrimonio para así disfrutar de

Para el Sacramento del Matrimonio la pareja deberá de llamar y hacer una cita con el sacerdote o diácono por lo menos
ocho (8) meses antes de la boda. En este día se clarificarán los
requisitos y lineamientos para recibir el sacramento. Por favor tenga presente que en ésta primera reunión es de suma importancia
que nos haga saber si usted ha sido casado(a) anteriormente por
el civil u otra ceremonia. En esta primera reunión se le pedirá a la
pareja adquirir sus certificados de Bautismo (actualizado), Primera
Comunión y Confirmación. Si no hay ningún impedimento (canónico
o civil), el día y hora de la boda puede ser reservado con un depósito no reembolsable de $100 (condicionada a cumplir los requisitos y lineamientos). En unos días la pareja recibirá un enlace
para tomar el cuestionario FOCCUS; este debe ser completado en
los siguientes 15 días.

En esta reunión la pareja presentará sus
certificados de los sacramentos de iniciación
cristiana. La pareja traerá sus testigos, de preGaudium et Spes 48 § 1
ferencia familiares (mayores de edad) para
firmar la forma prenupcial; a la pareja también se le hará la investigación prenupcial. En ciertos casos se discutirán los resultados
del FOCCUS. En esta segunda reunión se proporcionará la información para reservar el Retiro de Fin de Semana para Comprometidos y su espacio para su Taller de Planificación Familiar Natural
(PFN). La fecha de su boda será confirmada en la tercera cita.

En esta cita se reconfirmará su reservación
para los diferentes retiros ya mencionados.
Se le recordará a la pareja sobre su Licencia
de Matrimonio en las oficinas del condado a
entregarse en su próxima cita con nosotros (30
días antes de la boda). En este día se invitará
a la pareja a Planificar la Liturgia de la Santa
Misa y se dará la fecha del ensayo.

Para esta cuarta cita la pareja deberá de traer su Licencia
de Matrimonio y hoja de Planificación de Liturgia y comprobantes de talleres. Hoy se recordará a la pareja sobre la fecha en
que deberá de Confesarse como preparación para la Santa Misa
de la Boda. El saldo de la boda deberá ser saldado.
Documentos Requeridos Para el Matrimonio
os documentos a continuación (Sacramentos de Iniciación
Cristiana) son requeridos y deberán ser entregados por lo
menos un (1) mes antes de la boda:
Acta de Bautismo—Una copia actualizada (no original) deberá
ser expedida por los menos en los últimos 6 meses de la boda.
Actas de Primera Comunión y Confirmación—Copias de ambas
actas son necesarias; documentos originales son válidos.
Testigos Prenupciales—Dos testigos del novio y de la novia son
necesarios para validar su libertad. De preferencia familiares.
Licencia del Registro Civil—La pareja tiene que ir a la corte del
condado a aplicar por una licencia de matrimonio que el sacerdote hará válida el día de la boda. Esta puede ser obtenida en

Si la pareja esta ya casados por el civil, proveer copia del acta.

Lugar y Horas de la Misa
as bodas son ordinariamente celebradas los sábados en
la iglesia o capilla (no bodas en casas, parques, playa,
etc.) Los horarios de celebraciones son los siguientes:

Aportación Económica (Iglesia o Capilla)
a cantidad acostumbrada que se ofrece para una boda
es de $700 (incluye música) para las personas registradas
y activas de la parroquia; personas no registradas y/o no
activas su contribución es de $1000 (incluye música). Para poder
reservar la fecha de la celebración de la boda se requiere un depósito no reembolsable de $100. El resto de la cantidad deberá
de ser liquidada un (1) mes antes de la boda. Su contribución nos
permite la restauración y mantenimiento de nuestro edificios históricos; esta cantidad puede cambiar sin previo aviso.

Sacerdotes de visita – Si usted ha invitado a otro sacerdote fuera
de nuestra parroquia a celebrar su ceremonia, la familia es responsable de dar algo al sacerdote por sus honorarios. Santa Clara necesita aprobar al sacerdote de visita antes de la ceremonia.

Música para la Misa
a música en las bodas deberá de reflejar lo sagrado de
la Misa y en relación con el Sacramento del Matrimonio.
Los cantos por el coro ó músicos deberán asistir a la congregación a entrar en un ambiente de oración y celebración. Música secular, aun cuando sea popular, no es permitida en la celebración. Los servicios de músicos no deben ser una forma de entretenimiento. La música seleccionada deberá ser planificada y aprobada por nuestro director de música. La música esta incluida, sin
embargo si usted desea contratar a sus propios músicos la donación permanece igual; al momento de descartar a nuestros músicos

parecer. Si va a contratar otros músicos deberá cancelar los nues-

tros 30 días antes de su boda, el fallo viene con una cuota de
$100. Si cancela a nuestros músicos el día de la boda se tendrá

Programa Matrimonial (Retiro y talleres)

El Cortejo de la Boda/Forma de Vestir

Ensayo de la Boda/Forma de Vestir

recta y prudente es esperada en todo momento, aún en
los ensayos. Por favor evitar el socializar o tener conversaciones en la iglesia que interrumpan el ambiente de oración y
respeto; no alimentos ni chicles son permitidos. La forma de vestir
en los ensayos deberá ser de aspecto casual-formal (Mujeres: no
sandalias, no pantalones cortos, no minifaldas, no blusas sin mangas o escotadas, no gorras o sombreros, etc. Los varones: no sandalias, no pantalones cortos, no pantalones de mezclilla, no pantalones flojos ni rotos, etc.) Ya que el ensayo dura (30) treinta minutos, la puntualidad es requerida. Arreglos para el ensayo son hechos a través de la coordinadora de bodas o por la oficina. La
coordinadora de bodas se comunicará para recordarles sobre la
fecha y hora del ensayo y asistirles el día de la ceremonia. Los
ensayos en la iglesia o capilla son ordinariamente los viernes antes de la boda (algunas excepciones los jueves):

Su puntualidad es esperada el día del ensayo y todos los miembros del cortejo deberán de participar en el ensayo. Favor de estar en la entrada de la iglesia quince (15) minutos antes del ensayo. Cualquier retardo reduce el tiempo disponible para su ensayo.

cuenta, ésta deberá seguir lo establecido en nuestra parroquia.

Símbolos Cristianos

aproximadamente una hora. Cuando los nuevos esposos salgan
después de la Misa hacia el frente de la iglesia, solo se permite
permanecer allí por un periodo de quince (15) minutos. Los nuevos
esposos y su cortejo, después de desalojar el frente de la iglesia,
pueden permanecer a los lados en los jardines para tomar fotos.

El cortejo a participar deberán estar treinta (30) minutos antes
de la Boda al frente de la iglesia.
Si la novia o el novio llegan más de quince (15) minutos tarde a
la iglesia el día de la boda, la ceremonia será acortada celebrando solo el Rito del Matrimonio (no Misa).

Si alguno de los miembros del cortejo no ha llegado a la hora
de la boda, iniciaremos la celebración sin ellos.
Las limosinas pueden estar estacionadas frente a la iglesia durante la boda. Por favor observar las leyes locales de tráfico.
Planificación Misa-Liturgia (ver pág. 30)

El fotógrafo y/o la persona del video deberán de vestir de forma digna de la ocasión a celebrar. No sandalias (o nada parecido), shorts, mezclilla, camisas o blusas sin mangas o vestidos
escotados, ni playeras son permitidas.
Sugerimos que el fotógrafo y la persona del video estén presentes el día del ensayo para familiarizarse con la ceremonia para
el día de la boda. Ellos no deberán de interferir o interrumpir el
ensayo. Si hay preguntas hacerlas a la coordinadora de bodas
después del ensayo.
No fotos desde el pasillo central. No equipo fotográfico ni de
video entre las bancas (flash).
No más de dos fotógrafos/video en el Santuario.
Nuestra iglesia está muy bien iluminada, no se permiten fotos
con ‘flash’ a excepción en la entrada y salida de Misa.
Durante la Misa, no se debe cruzar pasillo principal.

Favor de recordar a los del cortejo que no hablar ni moverse de
un lado a otro durante la Misa; esto provoca distracción.
Fotos desde el balcón de canto no son permitidas. Favor de respetar el espacio de los músicos durante la celebración.
Favor de no subir al santuario (Segundo y tercer escalón) para
tomar fotos. Se pueden subir a la primera fase del santuario (un
par de escales arriba) para tomar fotos o video.
Fotografía y video deberán de llevarse a cabo sin conversaciones y sin movimientos que atenten contra la celebración de la
Santa Misa.
Nos reservamos el derecho de negar el tomar fotos/video si el
fotógrafo no sigue alguno los lineamientos mencionados.
Nos reservamos el derecho de parar a fotógrafos o personas que
tomen video si su conducta o forma de vestir no van de acuerdo
con los lineamientos. Favor de verificar la sección acerca de la
forma de vestir “El Cortejo de la Boda/Forma de Vestir” (pág. 21).
Arreglos Florales

santuario; cuatro (4) al lado del sagrario (dos a cada lado) y
uno (1) al frente del altar. Los altares de al lado también pueden también ser decorados.

responsibility of the couple to make sure all requirements are met prior to their wedding
celebration or specific deadlines. We reserve the right to delay or cancel the ceremony if
the outcome of the FOCCUS assessment tool and/or if the priest, deacon and/or minister
considers that the couple is not ready to celebrate the Sacrament of Marriage; If the ceremony/Mass is delayed or canceled because of any of these, Santa Clara Parish will not be
held liable, civilly, financially, and/or for the emotional distress/injury caused by the cancelation of the ceremony. $100 Deposit is not refundable.
