Saint Joseph Parish Mission Statement
We, the people of Saint Joseph Parish, by the grace of God,
born again in the waters of Baptism, seek to create a
community where our mutual faith in Jesus as Lord and
Savior, encourages us to continue growing as disciples. We
believe that discipleship is a way of life. We strive to show
that we are committed disciples, eager to welcome the
stranger, feed the hungry, shelter the homeless, and comfort
the bereaved. Inspired by God’s word and nourished by the
Eucharist, we pledge ourselves to active discipleship all for
God’s greater glory and honor.

GETTING TO KNOW OUR CATECHISTS
DIANE MAGLIONE. Diane is a Tuesday-afternoon’s catechist for grade 2(A). Catechesis is something to what Diane was
always drawn to but that she was unable to do due to work restraints. Diane feels that the Lord Jesus directed her to close the
door on her former profession to able to spend more time with her
children while they were growing and to volunteer for faith formation. Over the years, Diane has noticed how God was patiently
awaiting for her to turn a difficult corner and return to him; Diane
sees how her Catholic faith has evolved. Diane is a dedicated catechist who fears not been able to reach and make a positive impact
on the lives of her students. Her aim is to allow students to experience their own epiphanies (defined as a sudden and profound understanding of something).
The World Meeting of Families
with Pope Francis will take place at
the Pennsylvania Convention Center
in Philadelphia from TuesdayFriday, September 22-25, 2015.
There will be Daily Mass,
Devotions, Keynote Addresses and
multiple sessions.
DIANE MAGLIONE.

On behalf of the Eighth-grade class of St.
Joseph Academy, we would like to thank
parents, family, friends, vendors, and
parishioners for their support for the play
“Sherlock Holmes and the Case of the
Mistaken Identity” that was performed at the
Academy on February 25th.
It truly proved to be a remarkable and
successful experience for the students as well as an
enjoyable night for all of those in attendance. Thank you again
for your continued support for the Academy and its events.
Respectfully,
Mr. Jeff Moeller and Mrs. Kelly Sepp, play coordinators.

Holy Name Society
Valentines Day
Art Contest
Saint Joseph Academy students, in Ms. Croce’s art
class, were asked to reflect on love; ‘who do they love, who
loves them, and how is that love shown?’. Using art
materials of their choice, students created an image that they
thought would work well on a card. The eight winners,
pictured below, were picked by the Holy Name Society, and
their artwork was printed onto cards and sold after church in
January and February to raise money for the Holy Name
Society and their numerous charitable works.
Q: What kind of bagel can fly?
A: A plain bagel!
TUITION ANGEL FUND
As we know, the downturn of the economy in recent
years has had a tremendous impact on all of us. Many families
who have students in Catholic schools feel the ever increasing
pressures of meeting their family's needs along with the additional
impact of tuition.
We here at Saint Joseph Academy have established a
"Tuition Angel Fund". The purpose of the fund is to help families
who are struggling financially yet are committed to providing their
child(ren) with a Catholic education. We look to our parishioners
to help us keep this vital resource available to the young families of
our parish. Please consider making regular donations to this fund
knowing that you are helping spread the word of God through your
generosity by supporting some very needy families and their children in Saint Joseph Academy. Donations may also be made in
memory of a loved one or a friend with an acknowledgement being sent to their family. We even have children that look to share
their blessings by asking their families to make donations to the
"Tuition Angel" fund instead of receiving presents at birthdays,
holidays, etc.
Also, if your resources are such, please consider
"adopting" a student, thus supporting a student(s) by paying all or
part of the monthly tuition. We have many single parents
and families who desperately would like their child to attend Saint
Joseph Academy but do not have the resources to pay. Please feel
free to add your check to the weekly Vestibule Area-lection basket
in an envelope clearly marked "Tuition Angel" or contact the
school office for more information at 201-487-8641. May God
bless your generosity. Your donations can truly make a difference
in a young child's life.

THE PATH TO FREEDOM
Most of us, if we were asked “Does the phrase ‘the Ten
Commandments’ appear in the Bible?” would likely get it wrong,
because the answer is “no.” “The Ten Commandments” is a
post‑biblical, phrase that developed along with an image of God
as police officer that is not found in today’s passage from Exodus.
The first phrase is the key: God is the one who brings us out of
slavery; following God’s law or commands is our path to freedom.
The moneychangers whom Jesus drove from the temple were not
explicitly breaking any of the commandments, but neither were
they helping people to find God’s path to freedom as they came to
worship at the temple. This is an important Lenten lesson for us.
We need to stop asking ourselves whether or not we are breaking
specific rules or regulations and instead examine our lives to see if
we are truly following a path to God’s freedom through Christ.

Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.

PASTOR’S DESK—ESCRITORIO DEL PASTOR
As we celebrate the 3rd Sunday of Lent we enter into a new
phase of this season. We know pay special attention to those preparing to enter the Church through the Easter sacraments. As we join in
prayer for those preparing for Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist
we pray also for ourselves that we may be ready for the new life of
Easter by preparing our hearts well in these 40 days of Lent.
Thanks to all who came out for our Parish Mission last
week. We especially want to thank Fr. Bob Jalbert for sharing his
insights and prayerful reflections with us. May we strive to become
the “community of missionary disciples” that the Lord has called us
to be.
As we continue to try to recover from the harsh winter I
would ask that, if you are able, to try to be a bit more generous to the
parish over the next few weeks. With less people coming to weekend
masses because of the weather and the added expense of snow removal and heat it was a difficult month for us financially. If you can
“make up” for the Sundays you could not make mass it would be of
great help to us. Also, please consider online giving. Details can be
found on the parish website.
May the Lord continue to bless on our Lenten journey.
The Senior Luncheon, planned for March 13th at
St. Anastasia’s is CANCELLED, due to a burst pipe. Please
contact St. Anastasia’s for more information.
LECTIO DIVINA
Our presentations on Lectio Divina will continue the next two
Saturday mornings at 8:30. Come and learn this very practical way
to meditate on the Scriptures and how to have a daily prayer time.
As we make our efforts to grow closer to the Lord we will discover our the Lord wants to become more present to us every day.

cuaresmal.

JESUS THE HEALER
“A Living Meditation on Healing”
On Friday, March 27th at 8:00 the parish will host “Jesus the Healer”, a highly dramatic presentation of the powerful miracles and
healing events of Jesus’ life , performed by the Franciscan Mystery Players from Notre Dame Church in North Caldwell. By sharing
“Jesus the Healer” with others, the Mystery Players commit themselves to offering strength and peace to all those who are suffering. Thousands of lives have been touched by the play’s powerful witness of faith, hope, and love. At the end of each presentation, there is an opportunity for individual prayers for healing. Please plan on joining us for this highly effective way of preparing for Holy Week.

A Girl Scout's Prayer
Lord, help us to be good Girl Scouts
Ones whom the world can trust,
Help us respect our neighbor's rights
And never be unjust.
Recuerden en sus
oraciones a nuestros
familiares y amigos
que estan enfermos
o en hospitals o silos
de ancianos,
en especial por:
Help us to be clean, Dear Lord,
In thought, word, and deed
And help us to follow the law
That is in the Girl Scout creed.
Teach us to love our fellow man
And then to serve him, too
Help our actions to count, Dear Lord,
In everything we do.
Give us strength to carry on
And do our part each day,
Make a place in this world for us
And help us fill it, I pray.
Make us what we ought to be
And in Thy footsteps fall,
Help us to live for others
O great Scout Leader
of us all.
