I look forward to another successful school year as we work together to provide the best educational experience for our students. Thanks to the outstanding participation of our parents, business partners and community volunteers throughout the year, we once again received the Five Star School Award and the Golden School Award. I am appreciative and proud of the faculty, students, staff, and stakeholders who work diligently each and every day to help DLE achieve these recognitions and awards. and Annual Title I Meeting Grades K-2: Thursday, September 24th, 6-7 p.m. Grades 3-5: Tuesday, It is with great pleasure that I welcome our new assistant principal, Mrs. Tonya Griffin. She is an energetic and dynamic professional who will be a wonderful asset to DLE. Also joining our fabulous DLE family are the following people: Ms. Tina Crandall (Resource), Ms. Christa Escobar (Kindergarten), Ms. Gabriela Hedman (1st grade), Ms. Zeida Herrera-Vazquez (4th grade), Ms. Megan Plouffe (3rd grade), Ms. Valerie Palsson (Kindergarten), Ms. Kit Parker (Pre-K), Mrs. Ariella Peroni (Kindergarten), Ms. Stephanie Roberts (Media Specialist), Ms. Scotlan Severson (2nd grade), and Ms. Wendy Warfield (PE). I look forward to seeing you at the Annual Title I Meeting/Open House on September 24th for primary grades K-2 and on September 29th for grades 3-5. Our hope is that you will gain valuable information about your child’s classes and their teachers’ expectations. Please take a minute to complete the School Uniform Survey available on our website. I am delighted to join the Deltona Lakes Elementary Family! I look forward to continuing the legacy of serving Deltona Lakes Elementary through committed service and fidelity that builds relationships with students, parents, faculty, staff and the community. I joined Volusia County Schools August of 1997. I taught at the middle school level for 18 years. I am certified in English 5-9, Business Education 6-12, Exceptional Student Education K-12, Educational Media Specialist PK-12, and Educational Leadership All levels. I have a Master of Science Degree in Exceptional Student Education and an Educational Specialist Degree in Educational Leadership. In my tenure with Volusia County Schools, I have served as a media specialist who engineered and carried out initiatives designed to promote a culture for learning and success. I was honored as Deltona Middle School’s 2008-2009 Teacher of the Year. I have served in various leadership capacities in my role as a teacher. I have served as a Career and Technical Education Lead teacher who was responsible for guiding and developing curriculum that is essential to students operating in a global society. I have trained other educators in the use of technology. I am a clinical educator who is responsible for providing supports to developing professionals. Community Service is my passion. I enjoy demonstrating this passion through my involvement in public service organizations and service to Volusia County Schools. As I serve Deltona Lakes Elementary in my role as Assistant Principal, my objective is to inspire, motivate, and encourage creativity in the educational setting and in the community. For each 4-roll package (or larger) of toilet paper donated, your child will receive an ice pop. Just have your child bring his/her donation to the front office. Thank you for your generosity. Math Games and Hot Dog Night Come out Thursday, October 1st from 5:30-7 p.m. for some family fun. Enjoy a FREE hot dog then visit the various math game stations throughout the Cafeteria. Staff will also be available to assist parents in signing up for some of the District’s online technology such as Pinnacle and Parent Portal. Bring your smartphone and/or tablets and download the school calendar. TRAFFIC PATTERN Parents, to ensure the safety of everyone, please follow the traffic pattern of the school. * Do not GO THROUGH the BUS LOOP. * If you enter through Providence Blvd., go through the loop to the cafeteria to drop-off or pick-up your child, then leave through Providence Blvd. * The Adelia Blvd. gate will be unlocked 6:30 a.m.—8:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.—2:45 p.m. If you enter through Adelia Blvd., go around the loop to the left, park and walk with your child. Exit through Adelia Blvd. It is not a drop off zone. * Stay in your car at parent pick up and have student(s) enter the car on cafeteria side. Siblings should sit together on the outside benches by the cafeteria. * Parents on campus, wait on the GRASS AREA by the MUSIC ROOM to avoid congestion and for the security of all students. Do not wait in the hallways or in front of the cafeteria. Volunteers to help in the classroom, sharpen pencils, sort papers, etc. and in the cafeteria from 10am-12pm (you must be an approved VCS volunteer.) To volunteer (field trip chaperone, classroom helper, etc.) you MUST have a volunteer application on file. It takes about 3-4 weeks for volunteers to be approved. School Calendar Download – Did you know that you could have the school calendar downloaded on your computer, calendar or smartphone? Simply go to Volusia County Website: www.myvolusiaschools.org · Click on Schools tab · Click on Deltona Lakes Elementary under Elementary · On the bottom right there is a box labeled “Calendar”, click on “Show Calendar” · Click on Use full version · Click on Deltona Lakes Elementary Now you can see the Deltona Lakes Calendar. To have the calendar downloaded on to your calendar follow the steps below: · · · · Click on the picture of the little envelope at the top left. Click on Available Calendars Scroll down to Deltona Lakes Elementary and click Done Click on the arrow pointing to the right (Both columns should say 0 items.) · Click on iCalendar Feed once the information is filled in click on Subscribe · Click Subscribe again when you receive the pop-up and then on the View Events. It should take you to your calendar and it will then pop up with all the school events. We are planning a Technology Night (October 1st) to share more information like this with parents. Spirit Night on Wednesday, October 28th, 5-8 p.m. Have fun in the playplace and see the Cow! Fall Festival Thursday, October 22nd, 5:30-8 p.m. Wear your best western outfit to school on Thursday. Later that night, come on down to DLE for some great food, games, fun, inflatables, sno-cones, popcorn, music, and MORE! Watch for flyers coming home with details. McDonald’s spirit night will be from 4-7pm on October 13th (2nd Tuesday of each month). If the boil is draining (wet) don't touch the wet area. Cover with a gauze bandage and inform the clinic staff. The Visitor Management System helps track guests, students, faculty, contractors and volunteers at our school, thus providing a safer and more monitored environment for the students. When visitors, volunteers, contractors or parents check-in, they will be asked to present a valid state issued ID for entering into the system. The system has the ability to provide alerts on people who may jeopardize the safety of the campus. We feel certain this will help us keep our campus safer, and ask for your cooperation in presenting your valid state issued ID when checking in at the school.
